River crossing

I have a darkend screen that flashes like lighting when I am at the river crossing ... Is this a game bug ? or is there a secret to getting across the rocks(using the bug) without being able to see where your going ? Except at the lighting flashes.

Sounds like a bug but I didn't have any problems like that when I played it
