Can we bet on a Steam version of these games?
I think that's a fairly safe bet considering the trend so far.

I'll pre order the games on here, so I can instantly dl them instantly and then link them to my steam account.
I wonder if there will be pre-orders.

Who says you can link TTG games to your Steam account?
Or are you talking about adding non-Steam shortcuts to the Steam client?

Until now I got all my Telltale games on Steam. However in the recent Puzzle Agent sale and the insane Sam & Max sale, I got all of them here on Telltale too.
I'd love to get the games on my Steam account (no, I don't mean adding shortcuts through Steam), but I'm not buying Telltale games through Steam ever again!
Hi guys,
I'm a big fan of the monkey island and so bought the Tales of a Monkey Island and loved them ! I'm sure TT Games will make a great game out of Back to The Future but I would to know if we have any information on if they will release it (and prerealese it) through Steam.
Best regards,

Given how almost Telltale's entire library is available on Steam already, I'm sure BttF will be sold on there soon.
Is there a reason why you wouldn't want to get it off the Telltale Store, though? Just out of curiosity.

Well I like to have my games regroup at one or 2 places. So for several now years I buy only digital games through steam mostly or blizzard for starcraft 2(example) the last game I bought that came with a box was FEAR 2 and I did that because it was on steam so even if I have the box I have it on my steam account :)
I reformat a lot my computer and with steam I don't need to reinstall my games I keep them all on an second hard drive (1TO of game ^^) AND since I got a laptop on linux to work (I develop) Steam is the easiest platform to virtualize with wine :)
(got all my games on 2 pc thanks to steam)
I say all that without saying the autoupdate the steam friend the steam gift etc... ;) I bought the complet Monkey Island pack for a friend on steam :)

Back to the Future will be available on Steam. It just isn't available to order there as of yet.
Purchasing the game through the Telltale Games Store is the only way to get Puzzle Agent for free, have a dollar from your purchase go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and gain access the Insider Forums though.

Sadly, I'm probably going to end up double-dipping on this. I really want the Steam release of the games, but I'm also going to want to be able to pick up the DVD release with goodies when it inevitably becomes available.
I suppose it's unreasonable to pre-order the games through the Telltale store and hope they can be transferred to my Steam account as well?

Actually I'm pretty sure there is some option on steam for you to load up other games onto it(I remember nearly adding spider solitare to my account)

You can add other games to your Steam games list, so you can launch them from your game library window, but that doesn't make them "Steam Games," as in they don't show up when you buy a new computer, etc. It's just a shortcut to an outside game, in your Steam list.
Steam is a good service for sure. Not too happy that you need to be online for Single players games too, but well I guess there is no way around that these days.
My biggest grief with steam are the prices though. Considering steam has 30 million subscribers you would think that they would be able to do more offers.
Actually, they are one of the most expansive for a weird reason.
I can get actual hardcopies a lot cheaper in the shops or from Amazon.
Feels sometimes to me as Valve is missusing their monopoly a bit there.
"Back to the Future" I will definitely get from Telltale directly as for me I don't see ab benefit in using the Steam service over the Telltale one (both are equally good in my eyes).
Not sure if this is true, but I also think if I buy directly from Telltale, the guys who actually make the game are getting more money.

If I can order from the developer directly, I usually always do even if it would be more expensive.
But Telltale usually does great deals for their games.
Jus saw that they had all three Sam&Max Seasons for 20$. Even though I own the first season already for PC (DVD Version) and for Wii, I don't have the 2nd and 3rd season.
That is an amazing price, even for techichally just two seasons for me.
While I ordered that, I directly preordered BttF too. :)

Telltale actually had a deal on here, for those of us who pre-ordered Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, we were also given the game again on Steam because of the Team Fortress 2 Promotion, which required the game on Steam. So us lot who purchased directly from Telltale got the game again on Steam.

Yeah you had to go to the Telltale TF2 Hats website, Log In to your Telltale account and it would say if you qualified or not, if you did, it gave you a code to use on Steam to add Sam & Max Season 3 to your games.

It's pretty much a forgone conclusion. Telltale have been great buddies with Steam and all of their games so far have been on Steam and every game has come up for pre-order on their site before Steam. I have absolutely no doubts that this game will be available on Steam as well(though you won't get the Season DVD and you're not likely to get the Puzzle Agent pre-order bonus).
Coreador
12/11/2010, 03:44 pm
Just FYI, GamersGate has it for pre-order:
www.gamersgate.com
They are a downloadable games site similar to Steam and Impulse. I use all three services, because often they have different great sales on things.
It's a little less than Telltale direct ($21.20) but doesn't have the extras. And if you keep your eye on Telltale's 30 days of Christmas sale, you might see something better (I grabbed the free BTTF card game deal they had a week or so ago).

Sadly not, it's that kind of thing that actually puts me off TF2, you just get servers filled with people who are only playing to show off their new collectable item and call everyone else a fag for not having one.
I rarely ever came across a decent playing server on TF2.

Bull! It's up the developer/publisher to work with Valve in advance to ensure the game is released on the release date. On any other major release if a deal is worked out prior it is listed on Steam and released at a specific time agreed upon by Valve and the developer/publisher.
If the game wasn't going to be on there today the other employee should have informed us of this yesterday.

Where is the Steam release? You should not wait until the last minute to release the game on Steam.
You should do it like Sam and Max season 3. You know that the game should actually be available for purchase on Steam few days earlier? Then you just release it.
Just a reminder for you that if you are doing it to force us buy it directly from you, it will not happen. I will buy it on Steam no matter what tactic you use.

hlhbk
12/22/2010, 05:35 pm
And you're so sure it's Telltale's Fault because....?
Because it is up to the developer/publisher to work out with Valve when to release the game. Vavle just can't release the game when they feel like it or we would get game weeks early if it was available to them to do so.
If Telltale was really in tandum with Valve over the release of BTTF then why has there never been a page about the game on Steam or a way to preorder like like you could on Telltales and Direct2drive's site? Yet in all major releases (we will take the Witcher 2 and Fallout New Vegas) all of this stuff is taken care of.
Dedlok
12/22/2010, 06:05 pm
Well, not EVERY game gets a pre-order page before it's released. I've seen plenty of games not even show up on steam's store until day of. And the way I see it, Valve probably didn't want to put a page up on the store so people don't think/hope it will get a sale price during the current holiday sale.
Also, it's a very busy time of the year for Steam, I've seen a couple people posting that they have submitted an update to Valve, but not sure when it'll be up because they are so busy. So if Valve is backed up enough and they only got the data to upload on their servers late enough where they couldn't get it up and available on their servers today.
There's also the issue of possible reduced manpower due to the holidays/vacations.
Or Valve could just want to wait until either after Christmas/the Sale.
There's also the possibility that they are planning another steam incentive thing, but certain things need to be in place before they unveil it and make it known.
Also: Do you work for Valve, Telltale, or some other developer? No? Then you do not not know the exact process and elements and machinations needed to get such things in place. So stop talking like you're Mr. Know-It-All whiny fanboy.
And I'm not claiming to know all either. All of this posts has simply been speculation as to why the series isn't up on steam yet.
So just be patient. It'll be available eventually.

I've been waiting for a page to appear on Steam, that way I can pre-order it there. But there's not even a page yet! I was able to preorder Monkey Island just fine and get all 5 games and as each one released (with some hiccups and occasional delays) be able to download and play right away.
The fact that there's not even a store page up on Steam is confusing and disturbing.
I don't mind buying direct from TT if I can link it into steam later. And as long as it's the downloadable version...I don't want to have to wait for it to arrive in the mail...

And in the same vein, Telltale has worked and submitted games to Steam long enough that they know what they are doing and what they have to do to get their games listed and available on Steam. So it could still be either a problem on Valve's or Telltale's side. Or maybe even NBC/Universal's.

Telltale primarily works with downloadable content, so if you buy it, you'll be able to download it instantly. The physical copy of the game isn't sent out until after the entire five-episode series is released and is more of a bonus than anything else. Not sure if you'll be able to add it into steam though.
EDIT: I did buy Poker Night at the Inventory from Telltale and was still able to get it from Steam, but I'm not sure whether that'll be the case with BttF.

You're being way too hard on TTG. They didn't lie and not everything is up to the developer as far as Steam releases are concerned. Don't talk about being impatient either. This isn't the first time the Steam release wasn't ready to purchase on the same exact day as the TTG store release. Don't know why you want it on Steam anyway. TTG games are always superior from their own store.

Wait a second....Telltale makes/creates these games. Their main priority is the distribution. Any site that makes games their priority is their distribution. If you decided to go third-party to get your game then you must realize the possibility of a problem existing. You made the choice ot use Steam and you made the choice to put your money in Steams Wallet.
People like me made a choice to use the direct site. Things didn't work out for you. Welcome to Life 101. The staff has already reported they working with Steam to fix this issue. TellTale does not control Steam. Why is it their fault if Steam hasn't posted something? Telltale does not go on steam and put up games. It is plain silly to accuse a party that has no control over Steams content.
Here is a bit of advice. If your going to be attached to a service and have to have all your games through it then understand when that company isn't the direct source of your game you might run into some problems. TellTale simply sends Steam the game to post. Steam is responsible for implementing it into their system. Another example is Darkstar recently released. The main company sent the game to Strategy First and Strategy First was then responsible for implementing it into their system. It took a few days for them to do so. I understand your not happy with the situation but I think your blaming the wrong people and have way to little proper information about what your talking about.

TTG games are always superior from their own store.
Where you buy a game from does not determine it's quality. Quality can be determined by things like what platform you buy it for, PC tech specs, kink in the development cycle, etc. What quality is not determined by is where you purchase the game from, that's just a fallacy of logic that could give a Vulcan an aneurysm.
OT: Damn guys, abusive much? Calm down, they said it will be on steam and it will. Its the holiday season, go and spend time with your families or prepare yourself for spending time with the family. Hell, play something else if you have to, delays happen and when they do you just need to suck it up and be patient. Chastising the devs isn't going to get it put on steams' "stuff to buy" list any faster.
Be patient, practice some zen or something to calm your nerd rages.

Well, you get the best support, the game comes out on time before any other port release, you get the cheapest price (unless the TTG 50% off Steam sale holds), and a free game if you preordered. In fact, you get free games all the time from TTG. That never happens on Steam. Also, you don't get the DVD at the end of the season.
I guess I mean that the service is best from TTG's own store than Steam (as good as Steam is).

I don't... um... I can't um... what? Why would TT sell MI2:SE? They... they didn't make the game, it was developed and distributed by Lucasarts. And it's not Steam that flagged your card... it was the bank, so... you've blacklisted Steam because of your bank.
In any case, I'm a little pissed off that I bought it through Telltale. The reason being: I prefer Steam's system of delivery over even discs. Steam is a much more reliable way for my to keep my games, even after system changes, than most other game delivery systems and rules out the idea of damaging media. Telltale is good, but I prefer that I had all of my games in a single delivery and organisational platform.

What? Why?
one simple answer: They will have to pay steam and if you want the steam version there are always 2 options:
Wait for it to be released on steam and buy it then or just buy the game again.
It will be insanely cheap on steam in a few months anyways.
Hell I re-bought Tales on Steam when it was only 5€. I bought poker night on TTG and Steam because it was very cheap.
I bought TDP here and activated it on steam for the S&M items and felt like I cheated the company.

To me the best deal for this game was the pre-order special: All five episodes, a free copy of Puzzle Agent, and the DVD when it's all said and done--that's just great. While I do love Steam, and I really appreciate them offering a 10% discount, they can keep the $2.50 because the free copy of Puzzle Agent and the DVD collection (which ensures that you'll be able to play this forever) is worth way more than that IMO.

Telltale and Steam allowed the purchases from here to be linked on Steam because Sam & Max and Poker Night have cross over promo items in Team Fortress 2, BTTF doesn't have such a deal so they are not going to give people a second copy to activate on Steam.

Does TT plan to incorporate Steam achievements in BTTF and future releases?
I use both Steam and my PS3 for gaming, but I have always felt more comfortable with playing TT titles on the PC. Also, considering there is no official release date set for the PS3, I'm getting antsy to go back in time. ;)

Interesting since it was implemented in their card game. I suppose that was part of the deal of collaborating with Valve.
Since PS3 trophies aren't that must easier to implement, it seemed like a shoe-in to do the same with Steam.

This. For Poker Night, achievements were needed to notify TF2 that you did what was necessary for the items. (Similar to how the Alien Swam Parasite hat was connected to an achievement.) Since there are no items for BttF, programming in achievements would be a waste of time.
If you like that sort of thing, though, I'm sure the PS3 version will have trophies, seeing how The Devil's Playhouse/Tales of Monkey Island/SBCG4AP did.

Hey Alan, I have a question, if you don't mind.
I know it's pointless to ask when the first episode is coming to the PS3, since if you could give the answer to that you would've told us already. But is it possible you can let us know why it's being delayed, if you have any idea? I hope I'm not coming off as confrontational (I'm sure the delay is Sony's fault, not Telltale's), but it does seem strange BttF is taking so long when The Devil's Playhouse had no such problems on the PS3. It'd be nice to at least know why.
Also, should PS3 owners expect delays like this for every episode, or do you hope whatever's causing this problem will only concern Episode 1?

Ah. I know they said the PS3/iPad versions of each episode would come out after the PC/Mac versions, but I assumed that meant they'd come out one or two days later.

For anybody wondering about the game not appearing on Steam, please address concerns to Steam customer support.
We can only manage Telltale Games accounts on our end!

It usually takes a day for steam to update which games are available since, Alan and I have both answered this question..I feel as though it should be locked.

Anyone else buy the game on steam and is missing one of the "coming soon titles" since they are not out yet I can't tell if it's 4 or 5 that's missing.
See my screenshot to see what I mean

I bought the full game on steam. Loaded it up today to see one of the "coming soon" tiles for the game is missing.
And yes I'm aware the first one there says Episode 3 it's really episode one the artwork or something got messed up I guess, been like that ever since I purchased and downloaded it on steam.
zounds!

So is it episode 4 then that likley dropped off (since you can't tell when it's got the stock image there)
My guess then if that's the case the release is imminent?
zounds!

Sad too since I just watched the trailer for EP 5 and I am anxious to play it.
Looks good!
Here is hoping for a season 2.

I downloaded my version from steam as well as when I went to play it there were graphical glitches on the title screen. The title, some of the options like "new game" "save game" "settings" and even the shadow under the car on the title screen was a red transparent box. I didn't try playing the game but had anyone else experience this problem with the steam version? I'm currently re-installing the game to see if that fixes it.

Did anyone see the picture, it's related, well, to this and Sam & Max. I got the picture saved if anyone wants to see it.

Yep, I think Sam & Max is as well since Max was in the picture. I just thought the picture was kinda amusing.

I wonder if Telltale's going to play a role in this Prize Booth thing Valve is doing. (http://store.steampowered.com/summersale/prizebooth/)
Probably not, since Poker Night's the only Telltale game with Steam achievements and you can't exactly give their games DLC. But hey, a man can speculate. :p

No telling, but yeah, that would be pretty awesome if they did.

I think it would be great to have the game on sale on telltale's site as well :D
Well, some fair Euro-Pricing would be OK too...

TTG have used their own disc checks for their own releases so far. I suppose they *could* use Steam DRM, but I doubt it.
