View Full Version : 24th June and no Puzzle Agent yet

So when exactly are TTG going to release this game, I mean it is already the 24th of June and there isn't even a wink of hope that this game will be released in June, like they say.

That's the problem with TTG they give us, and you will all agree, excellent games but they always keep us in pitch black darkness about release dates.

Yeah they said June but you've got to be wondering if they are going to make it or not. Only six more days to go in June and as each day passes the window does too.

A proper dating system needs to be established OR the blog needs more posts with open and honest addresses for our forum based concerns. So say you or I post something like "when is the game going to be released? Is there now a static date for release?". Then TTG should go onto their blog and submit a new post answering our questions. Or at least release FAQ details.

Who agrees??

Um, they do release the games in the given day. It's just the, you know, timezones and all that...

So I don't agree.

They release things as soon as they are able to, and are generally pretty punctual with meeting deadlines, and I'm not the most impatient person in the world. Quality takes time, and if you don't want semi-vague release dates, I don't think episodic gaming is your cup of tea.

I guess i should demystify this one, actually it's quite simple:

Puzzle Agent will be available at the very same day, i'll decide buying the game. As i haven't been up to this so far, no Puzzle Agent. Maybe after i've played through e3 of Sam&Max, i'll be in the right mood, okay?

I disagree with you. The episodes have dates and respect them. The dates might be released on the late side, but that's not a problem as far as I'm concerned. This way they meet their dates.

They release dates when they know and that is usually a week ahead. If you just check the blogs every once in a while you wouldent be late to the party.
Dont go blaming the company because you cant check every once in a while.

They announced the release date of episode 303 on June 10th (http://www.telltalegames.com/community/blogs/id-630), 12 days before it was released.

That's almost a full two week's notice.

Puzzle Agent is more of a minor release so they're probably not so worried about it, and doing more of a "it'll be out when it's ready" rather than announcing a deadline and then having to stress about it when they're right in the middle of another fairly major series. (And as cool as Puzzle Agent looks, I'm *way* more bothered about Sam and Max getting timely releases!)

serializer means that this game is just a pilot unlike sam and max jurassic park and back to the future which are full seasons.
Yes telltale should care about it but still it is a pilot and besides as stated above they dont know the release date yet.
They are either waiting for nintendo to see if it can come out on wiiware this monday, or are just working on some final tweaks to make sure the game is good

Remember a delayed game will eventually become good, but a rushed game is bad forever.

I think TTG is pretty good when it comes to fulfilling their release dates and in all those years it has been very rare that they weren't able to. If you compare this to other companies, and although it's understandable that sometimes your earger to something, then you can be quite happy.

I think this thread seems to be divided between the people who say that Telltale needs to be more communicative and those who say to just shut up and wait.

Regardless of how long they are taking, if they would explain why, then people wouldn't complain so much. Some of you say "they tell us when they know themselves." Why wouldn't they themselves know what the holdup is? They're the ones making it and could surely tell us what's going on.

Since their responses to such forum-related questions is either few and far between or at the very least has a long time to cook which gets people riled up about having no response until there actually is one, some people might consider that certain lack of being informative and/or punctual with such information as a lack of respect for the customer.

For example, there once was a thread or several about what kind of DRM was going to be on the ToMI DVD. Up until they made an official decision (which was in mid April, I think... back when the DVD release date was "in April"), there was little or no information given whatsoever from Telltale about the subject and it was given days and weeks to stew and get people to start making wild assumptions from lack of enough info. There are ways to avoid these sorts of things.

They've said it'll be out in June. It is still June.

If it gets to the 1st July and the game is not released, THEN there will be grounds for grumbling like we've seen in this thread.

Telltale have released what, 20 or so games (?) ) and to the best of my knowledge only one so far has slipped slightly - one of the ToMI episodes - and the fact it had slipped was communicated clearly to the fans.

I suggest we get webcam support or some netview on the developers machines, then we know what's going on, best with switching between each employee, department and access to the projects folders, i mean just as a first shy step on the neverending road for more communication.

Random whining.

They are never going to give up to the minute updates on production, and that's a ridiculous thing to expect. If they were a traditional company, we'd be waiting another entire year almost before we'd even be playing season three. Allow me to be blunt, the way I see it, you can either shut up and deal with it, or wait for the DVD release and pretend they don't do episodic games.

They give us information when they have concrete information, why the hell should they be posting "hey guys, we're not done making the game yet" every other day just to make a couple of lunatics happy? Their current estimate is still June until further notice, if you don't want estimated dates, again, episodic gaming is not for you. They release the games the moment they're done, which can be a little hard to predict perfectly, but I think they've been pretty damn good at it thus far, so getting worked up over not knowing which week something will come out is just completely insane. Yes, we're excited for it, and we're glad that others are excited for it too, but acting like Telltale is being shady and deceiving you by not posting exact release dates and/or constant production updates, sorry, but that's just idiotic. They are all overworked and do it because they love the games they're making and they love their fans, and acting like an entitled little brat demanding constant status updates is rude. I will reiterate it for the 954th time, if you can't handle semi-vague release windows without flipping out and making insane accusations etc., episodic gaming is not for you.

we're working on it, sit tight

Yep.

Generally speaking, if we looked at the schedule and said "well there's almost no way June is going to happen," you would know about it. If we could say "yes, it is absolutely, 100% going to be finished and to our liking by X date" then we would announce the date. But weird things happen during development, especially working on an entirely untested art style, so it's better to play it safe than sorry.

I mean, we could have said "yes, it is definitely coming out on the 22nd," but then we'd either have a really unpolished game released to the public or a lot of really unhappy customers when we blew past the date.

The thing with VALVe isn't that they keep us in the dark about release dates, it's that they give us a date but then have to push it back.

It's kind of the opposite, really- Telltale doesn't give us a date until they know they can have it out that day, but VALVe gives us a date even though we all know they won't have it out by then. (And yes, I'm counting situations where they give us a timeframe instead of a date, then push that back (i.e. Portal 2).)

I never said they had to make a day known to us and stick to it! All I said was can't they just talk to us more because episodic gaming is "as it comes" so tell us more about it "as it comes" instead of picking a month and making us wait with NO communication between announcing the release month and days before releasing the game. We would all appreciate it and telltale would generate even more buzz about their games.

I still like the fact that Duke Nukem Forever had the acronym DNF. Which also stands for Did Not Finish.

However, to pass the time, I actually watched some of the Grickle videos.
All I can say is, Wow.

They're either creepy or absolutely twisted (sometimes to the degree that as the plot continues, things get more twisted and twisted).

And I have to say, they're brilliantly done.

I'd imagine that Puzzle Agent will be a little more tame, but perhaps the creep factor will remain. Graham has a flair for that horror vibe and combined with an art-style almost typical of a light-hearted cartoon ('cept for them dramatic shadows. Looking for clues on Nelson Tether's Facebook page, I conclude based on his movie preferences that the release is just "around the corner", "three days" from now.

Of course, he's a Beatles fan too, so maybe the game was released "yesterday" and we just didn't notice.

Pick a month? that is not how telltale works.
By the way they arent giving info because they still dont know much yet they have stated 100 times if they know the release date, they will tell us.

All they do is give a vague date, like "coming soonish" or "June", then post nothing about it until right at the end of the month, only to say it's still "coming soon". The handling of the DVD's, Sam and max, and now this.

I could understand them missing dates and things once, but they do this with every game release. Surely they realise they're going to be delayed and aren't gonna hit these silly dates by now? Just set a date a few weeks later, and just have it finished a bit early, instead of triyng to release the second it's done. I'd rather have the game finished at Telltale and wait an extra week than be left in the dark for every single game/dvd that they make.

I'd rather have the game the moment Telltale feels it's ready for release, and so would most people. People just like to complain about not knowing to have something to complain about. It's nonsense.

I doubt there'll be much notice before this is released (for Windows/Mac anyway) as it's not one of their main projects and it's not tied to a 3rd party who wants a clear release date set in advance of the release. I wouldn't be surprised if they just throw up a thread & blog post just saying it's out within the next couple of days.

Not sure why some are having a fit about the release date, they said June and by my calander here in Australia it's still June. So far they have kept to the release date :)

What's the big deal if it's another week away? I'd rather a polished game that I can enjoy, go and do something constructive like walk the dog or enjoy the outdoors.

Unless it's snowing in your part of the world and your stuck inside in which case you can't or maybe your locked in a basement and all you have to look forward to is the release of a game. In which case I appoligise for my post... but think of it this way i just passed another 30 seconds for you which means you are now 30 seconds closer to the release date.

OK i better go now I think my copy of Puzzle Agent just arrived or it maybe the forum police coming to take me back to my warm dark padded cell. mmm warm and safe.

The final chapter of Tales was given as a November release at the start of the season, it actually came out on the 8th of December. It's probably because of that that the last episode of the current Sam & Max season doesn't have a month of release stated.

The only people *really* in the wait are the iPad owners. They got a taste of TellTale gaming and they had to literally wait months for the next one. This will be a much awaited release for them. The moment that pops up in the App Store, a collective sigh would probably emerge from a large public.

I'm glad I also have PC/Mac, I can finish up Someone stole Max's Brain while we wait. To a degree, I also haven't been speeding through it, to make it last. Still, if you like a bit of creepy, the Grickle stuff is a good to go through. Some of it is indicative of some kind of stop animation with horror. Other times, it gives almost an Edgar Allen Poe vibe with the flair for suspense. Poe was always big with characters that anticipate something bad is about to happen, and then go through the mental breakdown up until it does (or doesn't). I see some of that in some of the Grickle stuff.

But im sure puzzle agent wont be delayed by over 9 years

Then there's also Metro 3D. They were the ones that released the mega sleeper hit Armada. They talked about a sequel to it (Armada 2) since the Dreamcast days. And pretty much every machine released after it, there was promo material for it releasing on that system. And guess what. That delay was also over 9 years and still not out.

What we do finally have, is a beta of an Armada online game for PC only. Kind of snuck out there, all silent like. That might be a little less severe as Duke Nukem Forever, but I would say it's next in line only because there are people that can actually play an unfinished version of it.

I've seen delays on everything. A day or two is nothing, nor is a week. Though anybody who can remember back to the infamous Zelda delay, will have something to laugh about. Man, when it missed being in stores on that advertised release date, people had a cow. (Guess too many people altered their schedules to play it that day) Man, I forgot the days when Nintendo releases were like social phenomenon.

As for Puzzle Agent, a delay is nothing, I agree, and I'd be happier if it comes out as polished as it can be!
So if you ask me, it'd be ok if they decided to use a few more weeks... but that's not going to be the case, as everyone can see they updated the Puzzle Agent icon in the My Telltale section... and it will come out tomorrow for sure :D (PC/MAC)

Twilight Princess had the worst reason ever for being delayed. They delayed the Gamecube release by over a year, when the game was already done and ready to release, just so they could port it to Wii and use it as a launch title.

Puzzle agent is a game that features overt brain teasing puzzles. The other games are adventure games whose puzzles are concealed behind game play mechanics.

I'm not making sense, lol... Example, monkey island and Sam & Max feature puzzles, but none of them take the form of rubicks cubes and things of that category.

They're not going to release and leave though. They always release when everyone is going to be in the office for several hours, so there can be support is case it's needed.

RingHole, please, the G was clipped before. Don't change stuff retroactively like that. Especially since someone almost thought it was real. Even if I did fall for it, would it be worth risking Telltale losing sales and getting false bad PR?

We only know its coming today because today is the last day of June

Since Telltale doesn't have to submit to a publisher so discs can be printed, or anything like that, there aren't often definitive dates until like the week before release usually. It's pretty much a "When it's done" kind of thing. Puzzle Agent was done by a smaller team from my understanding, which obviously takes longer. It's a lot of game too, which requires a lot of work to make sure everything is working right.

Short answer: This doesn't happen every time, but when it does it's easy to understand why. It's normal to want the games they make as soon as possible, but the more time they spend making it great only benefits us gamers.

And because of all the hints that they've been dropping via Nelson's facebook page... And because Mark Darin said he's finally done... And...

Well, to be frank, they've done everything they can EXCEPT flat-out say the date that they can do to confirm that it's coming out today. :P

They don't even say "some time in june", they just say it's "EXPECTED in june", that doesn't mean its definitely getting released in june at all.

We usually have something a lot closer to a date than this. Usually we will say "June!" and then one or two weeks before launch we will say "Such and such day!" and then the game comes out that day.

For Puzzle Agent, one of the great things about the whole Pilot Program is that we get to try a whole bunch of new things with art and gameplay and such. The problem with new things is ... well... they are new! So we weren't entirely sure how long it would take to do them since we'd never done them before.

Im not complaining I just find it kinda funny that a game can come so close to release and still not have a set date.
As I said earlier its actually making me want the game more (Would I be posting on these forums if we knew when it comes out? probably not)

It's likely that the first version released will be PC via this site. Mac version may release at the same time. Wiiware, Steam etc will follow asap after that. The iPad version via the App Store may also be a little after the PC release.

So don't expect all versions to release simultaneously.

They're sliders. You have to click and hold on the buttons and move them right and left.
