What time is it in Europe? I'm on Telltale Standard Time and it's closer to 0000 than 0100, February 8th.
Yeah right now in California it's 12:45 am (aka 0045) on the 8th. Most Telltale employees are asleep, and will wake up in about 7-8 hours or so and get working on launching the episode.

So, how long is the window for the Season-1 buyers to download Ep3? I hope it's not to short so you miss it..

Ditto on moving California closer to Australia. Or better yet, just move the Telltale Team and servers to Australia.
I'm hoping it's released sometime before I wake up in the morning tomorrow so I can leave the download on, goto work and start playing when I finish at 3 in the arvo.

Relax, they just give a date and it will be released sometime on that date, not at the first minute of that day. It'll be here late afternoon Eurotime, probably, if there aren't any last minute bugs.

Hmm.. Last minute bugs. Nope. Game has been available to US&Canadian (gametap) members for two weeks so I think it is ready.
If someone download illegaly this game from net. It has been available 2 weeks.
If someone pay and is gametap (US or Canadian) member. It has been available 2 weeks.
If someone lives outside US and Canada and want to pay for this. Wait wait wait...

Just a reminder to those who are waiting... once we start sending e-mails (we have NOT started sending yet), it will take a little while for everyone to receive theirs, due to the fact that our mail server can only send mail so fast. Just because you see someone here reporting getting their e-mail, you shouldn't start emailing support to say you didn't get one.
Also, in the meantime, please do not e-mail support asking when the game will be out.
(Nobody's done it yet, but I want to head that one off early)

Rather off-topic, anyhow: do you mean how to download and apply a theme or how to create your own theme?
In the first case: click "Tools" in the menu bar, then choose "Add-ons", select "Themes", and then click the "Get Themes" link in the bottom right. You'll be directed to the mozilla web page in which to search for a theme that suits you, browse them and click the green "install now" button on the page to install.
In the second case: http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Themes
Enjoy ;)

There's something i quite don't understand:
They release the game on gametap two weeks in advance - buhhh! How much is the game ready then? Are gametap users kind of a external beta tester circle? And if so if problems show up, do fixes make their way into the ttg release?
If that's not the case and the game is ready already on gametap i quite don't understand all the hassle because don't they have almost two weeks for packaging the game for ttg and updating the web services?
Just wondering...
Trixie

Gametap i think are Sponsering Sam and Max, giving them a Exclusive period of the game is their 'reward'

02/08/2007, 06:29 am
You're right, the game itself is done weeks before the Telltale launch, but that's time probably spent making the other Sam & Max games on schedule. Launching the game is also probably a lot more than just a matter of packaging and updating the web page. So far they've managed to make it happen within the time interval they said it would.
Also, yes, I think that bugs which appear in the Gametap version may be fixed by the time the Telltale version rolls around. I think a bug involving an inescapable closeup of Max's face on Myra's set at the end of Situation: Comedy is one such example. (At least, I couldn't get it to happen again in Telltale's.) I wouldn't call Gametap's version "beta," though.

One big reason we don't automatically release the game right at midnight (even in our time zone) is that if there turns out to be a problem, everybody's asleep and there's nobody to answer support issues. Instead we wait and supervise the release process to make sure nothing goes wrong (at least, on our end).

Don't get me wrong i'm not moaning about the release time, i'm just wondering why it might be stress as packaging the game for sure isn't done by the game designers and so there should be time enough to set everything up correctly and just press the release-button once the time is right?
So do we get the same versions as gametap users or are issues that might show up fixed in between a gametap and a telltale release?
Hmmm packaging, testing, insulting your colleagues for their faults that actually you did, doing some web-fuzz, offering some content, communicating to those creepy users, setting up the webservices...this for sure isn't all done on just one day! :O)
tabacco
02/08/2007, 07:26 am
It's not actually as simple as just pressing the button. There are several scripts on our side that need to be supervised, and we have to coordinate the launch with Digital River as well.
As for the Gametap release versus our version, we fix issues if we find them in the two weeks, but the release on Gametap is considered final code. It's not beta in any way.

If only it were that easy. :D
There are a lot of reasons that I'm not going to bore you with. You're just going to have to trust us - it takes a lot of work for us to make sure the launch goes right. It's not just a matter of someone pushing a button, and we're not sitting around twiddling our thumbs just to annoy the people who are waiting for the game.
(I know you guys are excited and that's great, we want you to be excited! But if I sound a little annoyed, it's because it can be stressful, when we're already working really hard to get the game out for you guys, to have people shouting "Why didn't you do it already? It can't be that hard!" ;))

Well, my opinion is that they're probably hiding a cow. ;)
They release the game on gametap two weeks in advance - buhhh! How much is the game ready then? Are gametap users kind of a external beta tester circle? And if so if problems show up, do fixes make their way into the ttg release?
GameTap users get a fully tested, 100% complete "1.0" release, of course. Sometimes, though, once hundreds of people have banged on the game for a couple weeks, we discover things that we missed in our own test process and fix them before the second release on our site.
The bigger issue which takes the most prep time, though, is that the games are packaged and distributed on our site in an entirely different way than they are on GameTap. Episodes need to be integrated with our shopping cart and activation/registration system, and get packaged up in installers, all of which needs its own separate round of testing independent of the GameTap release.
I wish it was as simple as us flipping an "on" switch and the episode releases itself (hopefully someday it will be), but for now theres a lot of manual monkeying around behind the scenes required to launch a new game.
I think games in over 13 hours late! Is it so hard for Americans to understand that not everybody lives that side of globe..
Ouch. The reason we don't deploy the game at, say, midnight pacific time, is that at that time, most of our company (and all of the people who we contract to handle shopping checkout, payment processing, and game activation) is asleep in bed or at home - because where we live that's midnight! We prefer to launch the games when everyone involved in making them - and in providing tech support for them - is wide awake and at their desks. That would definitely not be the case in the middle of the night, so any of our users who ran into a problem with their newly downloaded game would be out of luck on getting help for at least eight hours.
Well, my opinion is that they're probably hiding a cow. ;)
Also there's that issue.

That's always a safe bet in any case where people are keeping you waiting for something.
But hey, I love you all at Telltale Games! I'm glad that I'll be playing the game this very week. But hey, if you want a tip... psst... just put the release date on your site as being a day later than the actual release date... that way, people won't have to be anxious on launch day, instead having a pleasant surprise when the game pops up a day early.

That would be very bad - it would work, and everyone would be happy for that one release, but on the next release, the grunting would start one day earlier... :D

Argh, I hadn't thought about that... okay, then you could for the next release, put release as being one day later, and then for the 2nd 2 days, and for the 100th release 100 days later... although people might recognize the pattern, so it would be better to do one day for the first release, 5 days for the 2nd release, 34 days for the 3rd release, etcetera, and 1138 days for the 100th release. There, that should do it! You know, I really should consider becoming a business consultant.

@Jake
I've no idea of gametap as i'm european so i wonder does gametap use automatic updates or do users have to redownload fixed versions (full version?, patches?) once they are ready. I suspect they also get these.
And a last one: Do you have something like a bugfix-freeze, so that you say we normally wait one week in order to collect user feedback and only major issues get attention afterwards or do you try to fix things till the last day(s) before you get things rolling on the ttg side?
Thanks for taking the time!

YES! Deffenetly!
Well I understand that release is done during US workin hours. However web pages don't contain this information. Right now about half of planet population is aldready living 9th day so I still think release is 'late'. And because there is lot of people waiting this I recomend applying more accurate release time to following releases... :)

Egads. I've already lived through eleven hours of February 8th, and I haven't had a chance to deal with mobs, moles or meatballs. In fact, I am so victimized by this concept of waiting that I bought Root Beer Tapper over XBLA. It's not even 3D, Telltale, you made me buy a non-3D game! Next time, I expect you to better meet my totally arbitrary and therefore all-important demands. I can't believe I have to wait. Geez, what am I in, the twentieth century? I want my gaming, and I want it now.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go elsewhere to mutter darkly and pout about how my life is so unfair.

I almost bought the Texas Hold'Em yesterday but then noticed in the demo that you can bluff each opponent out pretty easily which makes it kind of boring after a few tries. The steering has some flaws and the game isn't placed in center in fullscreen mode and whilst beeing in windowed mode it's jerking. But beside of such issues the opponets are nice charcaters with funny dialogues during a game...uhhh and nice music too! :O)

@telltale:
maybe you could answer me one question:
last time you released the second episode 23:45 (german time). i remember you said something about a bug or something you found on release day, which caused the late release, right? so, is this happening again (i hope not!) or may we await ep3 within the next... hmm... maybe 2 hours?
Emily

@Jake
I've no idea of gametap as i'm european so i wonder does gametap use automatic updates or do users have to redownload fixed versions (full version?, patches?) once they are ready. I suspect they also get these.
Every time you launch GameTap, it hits the server to look for updates and downloads them automatically. The user doesn't have to do anything to update their game.
And a last one: Do you have something like a bugfix-freeze, so that you say we normally wait one week in order to collect user feedback and only major issues get attention afterwards or do you try to fix things till the last day(s) before you get things rolling on the ttg side?
We do have "code lock", after which nothing NEW can happen to the game, just bug fixes. A few days (maybe a week?) after that, the finished game goes off to GameTap. I know that GameTap is also doing beta testing on the game at the same time (before we send them the final version), so that works into the equation, too.
Usually we don't have to make major fixes between when the episode launches on GameTap and when we release it, but it's nice to have the option if someone reports a nasty bug. But as Jake said, most of the time in between their launch and ours is spent getting our versions ready, not making changes to the game itself.

Well, if Episode 2 was any indication, singing "99 Bottles of Beer On The Wall" may help it come faster :P
(Again, I don't know why I get so excited, since I still haven't had the means to buy the full season package, so I still have to wait until I either buy the standalone episode like before, or finally get myself to splurge the money for the whole package lol)

Hi guys,
Getting it from the find my order page is fine, but please be aware that we are still getting information from Digital River and we are still doing some testing on the download process to make sure everything's working right. If you don't see a download button on your order yet or if something is funky, don't come complaining to us about it. ;) (When we start sending emails and announce that everything's ready, that's when you can start complaining. :D)
EDIT: Matze - that's probably because DR is not done releasing all the preorders yet. Their system has to go through and release every one and it takes time. It'll show up soon.

For the record, we still haven't sent out the emails, so if you didn't get an email yet, that's normal. :D Everything's actually going smoother than it did with episode 2 (woo!), this is just a really time-consuming process.

Huh. This appears to be later than I expected... Don't worry though... It's worth it. Episode 3 was quite fun.

I think I yelled that fact at Emily about 2 minutes after she posted :)
It's pushed about 1/3 of the emails out to the mail server so far, although odds are good some of those are backed up in the mail server's remote queue.

I don't have the opportunity to play the game until next weekend. Way too much school work, so didn't join in on the wait. And then I'm coming here to check my mail. I open my inbox. 5 new mails. None from telltale. Five seconds later I receive the mail with the download link! Luck? Well, since I can't play it, I guess not. But a little nice nevertheless. Well, now it's installed, and I can just double click the nice icon on my desktop when the weekend comes :) A nice little reward after a week of a serious amount of work. Just hope I'm not too tired to play it when I come home...
I'll be waiting with you the next time ;)
here's my lovely email :D

Still no Sam and Max to download for me ;-;
It seems everyone but regular Joes like me who are buying the episodes as they are released are getting drunk on the delicious fruits of Sam and Max.

I'm currently downloading episode 3 now, but it's taking FOREVER. I'm only getting 19Kbps at the most and I have a high speed connection. It's past midnight here. I want to go to bed, but I want to play! ARGH!

The demo for ep.3 is a link to Situation Comedy's download.
It works fine if you fix the URL by hand, but... someone wasn't careful with the copy & paste!
