View Full Version : Could The Walking Dead be the second Telltale licence to get more than one season?

So Telltale are doing a season of The Walking Dead. Now we know next to nothing about the game so far so it may sound greedy to ask for more than one season already but in this case I think it's keeping in line with the text.
Robert Kirkman, writer and creator of The Walking Dead said in his introduction to the comics:
For me the worst part of every zombie movie is the end. I always want to know what happens next. Even when all the characters die at the end... I want it to keep going.
More often than not, zombie movies feel like a slice of a person's life shown until whoever is in charge of the movie gets bored. So we get to know the character, they have an adventure and then, BOOM, as soon as things start getting good... those pesky credits start rolling.
The idea behind THE WALKING DEAD is to stay with the character, in this case, Rick Grimes for as long as humanly possible. I want The Walking Dead to be a chronicle of years of Rick's life. We will NEVER wonder what happens to Rick next, we will see it. The Walking Dead will be the zombie movie that never ends.
Well... not for a good long time at least.
If Telltale only did one season it would seem to be going against what The Walking Dead is all about. Though the game would obviously need to be successful to justify more than one season.
Now for the record I'd like to see more Monkey Island but if that becomes an impossibility because of LusasArts going back to the dark side of the force then I think The Walking Dead would make the most sense for the second multi-season Telltale game.

According to gin, this is a "multi platform, multi title" game, or something like that.

It's "multi-title" because it'll be episodic, and so the game will be made up of multiple titles.

I'm still holing my breath for more B2tF. The game was totally better than the 3ed movie.

It could get another season or two. Though that all depends on sales, reviews, and what not. Of course, seeing some actual gameplay first helps as well. ;)

I think we should just be happy with one season at the moment. :)
I really liked Tales of Monkey Island, and hope there's another season of that.

Many need to relize the the series is based on a pretty long comic book series so yeah it could last awhile if they play their cards right and the game has nothing to do with the tv series from what i understand diffrent licensing deal amc has a diffrent one so does telltale.

A Sam & Max season 4 seems likely, it's more a matter of when than if. Sadly, at this point another Monkey Island game by Telltale is pretty well dead in the water, especially considering that LucasArts and Telltale don't really talk to each other anymore (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=562002&postcount=23). After ToMI, LucasArts changed management and seem to be going in a different direction.

If LucasArts really doesn't care about Monkey ISland they should just sell the rights to TellTale.... Why sit on something you don't care about

Let's hope sales are very strong across all platforms. Money drives season 2 more than anything else. Such are the constraints of our society.

Do you guys want more than one season of The Walking Dead? Do you think that the TT team is thinking about a second season? I would happily shove my money in their face for a second season. What do you guys think?

I can easily see a 2nd Season, being the Walking Dead is a continuing series in comics that's almost eclipsed 100 issues in a decade and is still going strong.
I would imagine multiple seasons played a part in Telltale getting the Walking Dead license in the first place.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the first episode, I wouldn't mind a Season 2.
I'd rather have Sam and Max Season 4, though. Or SBCG4AP Season 2. Or Monkey Island 6. :p

Can't argue with that. No more game announcements until Monkey Island 6! Us MI fans had a great couple years there, I don't know if I can take the possibility of another decade of drought. (though I know, unfortunately, that isn't up to Telltale)

The comics are on issue #96 or #97, and knowing that they are basing off the comics, I would say they may have enough for a second season, with only five episodes.

Hi fellow TWD fans! :)
First I'd like to say, that even tho I like playing games, I rarely buy them. Being a huge TWD fan, I did buy this game, mainly because I wanted to support a concept that I think has a huge potential. Having played through the first episode, I can say you guys are on the right track - I got what I was looking for.
Now, I know this is a bit early, but I wanted to start the discussion on season 2. I for one think, that if Telltale keeps the standard they have made in the first episode, and stays true to the TWD comic atmosphere, they could easily make this a succesful multi-season project, that people would buy.
I'm not realy sure what your plans are with Lee and season one. I think I read somewhere the plan is to tell the complete story spaning several years in the TWD universe. While season 2 could continiue Lee and Clem's story, it might be an interesting concept to create completely new chareacters.
But honestly, the most awsome thing for me would be, to make every season equivalent of one TWD comic volume, and realy taking your time to show Lee and Clem's drastic personality development (similar but not the same) as in the case of Rick and Carl.
Just throwing out ideas while they're popping in my head... What are your thoughts on this, guys?
Enjoy!

Hello Telltale and other fans,
I wanted to ask if there is posibility, that we can get more than 5 episodes?
I am a big fan of R. Kirkman's comic book The walking dead and it has already over 80 episodes. (That is where I stopped reading it for a while.) So you can make new episodes or The Walking Dead 2 since there is a lot of background you can use.
In the end I wanted to thank you for your good work and that you have made the great atmosphere in your game, which I like in the comic book. I can not wait for another episode.

How about we wait until THIS season is over first. If Telltale/Kirkman want a sequal, I'm sure we will get a sequal at some point.

I think this could be Telltales most successful game series, so a season 2 would be pretty likely. Hopefully all the good reviews and positive word of mouth translates into massive sales.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO please no. They already screwed up by not adding invert Y axis option. Give the license to a true developer who cares about the fans and just don't sell a incomplete game.

You can't seriously come onto this board, for a game company known for releasing episodic comment, and make that complaint and expect to be taken seriously.

How about we wait until THIS season is over first. If Telltale/Kirkman want a sequal, I'm sure we will get a sequal at some point.
While ultimately it's true that it is up to Telltale/Kirkman to decide if they want to do a sequal, they will do that based on the profit and the critical reception of this game. That is also the reason why I bought this game and am trying to show my support for future instalemants here.
I think this could be Telltales most successful game series, so a season 2 would be pretty likely. Hopefully all the good reviews and positive word of mouth translates into massive sales.
While it is entirely possible that I've simply missed them, this is the first game of Telltale that I noticed. I'm also guessing it's due to better reviews compared to previous games?
I hope Telltale realises the potential in this gaming franchise. I've checked out what their other games were, and even tho Back to the future and Jurassic park were cool movie series, I'm pretty sure both their fanbases combined were nowhere close as huge as the TWD one.
Just my two cents.
Enjoy!

I think alot of telltale game virgins don't realise they only make episodic games they see the walking dead and think cool and sign up with out doing any research.
dunno if they are just stupid/gullible or expect everything to be done a certain way. maybe think the world is flat too...

Could TWD get more than one season? Sure! The critical reception to the first episode was pretty solid, getting a mean rating of 8/10 or equivalent. If the commercial reception (read: sales) falls in line and the quality of future episodes for this season doesn't waiver, I think Telltale potentially has a bonafide, long term hit on its hands.
Should TWD actually get more than one season? Well, it's too early to tell in my opinion. Though I thought the first episode was fantastic and have played it multiple times, past history is no indication of future results. I predict that there will be at least one episode this season that will disappoint fans in some way or another. It's bound to happen, particularly given the varying story arcs based on your decisions. The fact that the bar has been raised so high from this episode is another factor to consider.
Nevertheless, if they can consistently put out episodes that are highly regarded in both critical and commercial circles and there is more compelling story to tell, TWD will likely see a season 2... and 3, 4, etc. as long as those factors continue to fall in line.
The only thing that may prevent future seasons from appearing, regardless of reception and quality, is the licensing once the first season is complete. We have no idea how far the Telltale contract extends with the comics creators. Is there an option to renew? Can the creators seek greener pastures regardless of the success/failure of the Telltale episodes? Those can play a major factor in future seasons as well, even if everything else turns out right.
As a fan, I'm eager to play and (hopefully) enjoy the subsequent episodes in this season before even thinking about a season 2.

I kind of doubt there will be a season number 2 in the sense that we follow Lee for another season. But I'm guessing there very well might be another multiple-story-arc following a completely different, and unknown, person. First of all.. I'm guessing the writers allready have the story written, and Lee's fate sealled, allready before the first episode. But even if he isn't killed off at last, there might be a game mechanic-problem. As I get it telltale is experimenting whit this new decision system (don't get me wrong, I love it), but they might figure out by episode 5 that the amount of work in maintaining a multiple branch-story like that is simply too much. If we were to follow Lee in a second season, the second season would have to base their game on the choices made in the first season. In other words, there would be more and more branches, and more and more work per new episode.

On the one hand i want ten million seasons of Walking Dead game!
On the other hand imagine if all ten million Seasons are about Lee and Clementine then there will be 70 million decisions to incorporate. So if they do more seasons it should be about diffrent protagonists and characters. a 5 episode season for each season {thus limiting how much work they have to do on the diffrent decisions and all. Maybe crossing over diffrent seasons characters. Like if 2010 is when lees story ends in episode 5 then we meet up with Lee/Clementine in Season 3 in 2012 for an episode before they part.

Its a cycle, of yiu listn to retronauts manic mansion episode the lead on that says the tide on what Lucas arts changes depending on a few factors such as studio head, to what the devs want to make
