Forum Guru?

Does anyone know the term or is it only me that uses that?

To explain what it is I will here name a few people and then explain from them.

GuruGuru214: No it's not because of his name, but more because of the post count and the fact all his posts are great statements that I can rely to and envy that I can't write statements like that, so I look up to him as a Forum Guru, because here is always there with a statement that makes sense.
And always debate and have conversations with people that makes sense.

Avistew: Massive post count, and over 80% of them are all over at least 5000 words and still all of it is true and meaningful, if that is not being a Forum Guru I don't know what is.

SecretFawful: Always there with a good remark, and at the same time really good in writing awesome statements, he is like an equal to GuruGuru214 and I can always rely to his posts.

Rather Dashing: A person who says, what he wants when he wants and don't give a damn about who gets offended. And that is not said to be mean, but a quality that I envy. I never speak my mind in fear what people will think of me, but Dashing don't and his statements comes out the way he wants them, if they are hard then so be it. And he is one of the few who is really good at keeping Trolls in check. :)

Hayden: Also someone who knows how to string a good sentence together, and conversate with all and still keep all the points clear.
It's a quality I envy the most is being able to string a meaningful sentence together, that make people who thought they was right rethink their thoughts a little. :)

Now most of these people has a really high post count, and yes I must agree that is what I also base a Forum Guru on. But most posts has to be able to have conversations with other posters, my post count has gone up, via the "What Ever Is On Your Mind" thread and other various about what I have bought or played recently or given opinions. But never really conversated with someone, or rarely.

Now if there is someone I forgot to name, you are more than welcome to write why you are a Forum Guru, and no you don't have to have a high post count, that is just what I base them on. :p
And if you don't think you are, you can write that too, this is just my personal thoughts.

So I won't be a Forum Guru, but that doesn't mean I can't dream. And even for all my various posts here and there I am sure not even many knows who I am. (Except maybe for Hayden). :)
Now this was hard for me to write, lots of repeats of the same lines and all that, but I did say that I am not really good at explaining things, and write something that sound meaningful in anyway, so what I have done now will have to do.

Now I am not saying this is how it is, this is just thought conceived in my own mind, and has been there since I started as a member here, and I felt like sharing. Maybe put a smile on someone's face knowing what others think about them. :)
Or maybe just being plain out creepy. :p

Now be advised, that I am scared as hell to post this, but I did it anyway. Time for me to face something I fear I guess. :p

Good :). Often I chicken out when I think that my post(s) may be slightly offensive, inappropriate, over-the-top or awkward. But deciding to post said comments anyway can usually result in some pretty great discussion, which could have been missed out on had you not hit the submit button.

Anyway, on the topic of Forum Gurus, I think I would consider MusicallyInspired to be a bit of a 'forum guru' - he's a guy whose posts are mostly of quality content, and he generally knows what he's talking about. Chyron also fits that description.

Also, I would also certainly consider Dashing to be a forum guru. Even if it weren't for his post count, it would be quite obvious that he spends a lot of time on forums; he knows how to argue, he knows how to back up his arguments, and his posts almost always make sense.

Avistew is definitely a forum guru; there's generally a fair bit of wisdom in her posts. And the good thing about Avi is that she's not worried about anonymity, and when people are less worried about hiding their identity, they're more open to sharing personal experiences, which results in some more interesting (and more real) posts.

Guru - yes, he's certainly a guru. He always contributes a lot of quality points to most discussions - same as Irishmile.

When I think about it, we seem to have quite a few 'gurus' here in the TTG forum, which is probably what makes it such a great place to hang out :).

Hayden: Also someone who knows how to string a good sentence together, and conversate with all and still keep all the points clear.
It's a quality I envy the most is being able to string a meaningful sentence together, that make people who thought they was right rethink their thoughts a little. :)

You have no idea how often I do this, almost always accompanied by saying "fuck it" to myself. As such, I've come to refer to these (to myself) as "fuck it posts". Incidentally, this was almost one of them.

Wow, you make me sound so much more awesome than I am. At some point, a high post count puts you into "wow, that guy spends way too much time on here" territory, particularly if it's coupled with a recent join date. I'm like Dashing, I have a twisted combination of pride and shame in regard to my post count. And I'd have to say that a very decent chunk of my posts haven't really contributed much, but it's nice to see that I've made some sort of impact during my time here.

I appreciate the compliment! I don't really see myself as a Forum Guru though, more like a Forum Clown. I'm not a fan of this sort of thing in general though. It's why I didn't take the Forum Awards seriously. I don't like favoritism or singling people out as better than others.

More or less the same. I can't see how a meaningful discussion can come out of a topic like this, and I would much prefer that people read, respect, work to understand, and engage my posts rather than just giving me a pat on the back. It's nice and all, but I notice that(for example) most of my in-post links get 2 or 3 clicks, that a good portion of my posts don't get many responses(let alone well thought-out ones), and overall I don't feel like I'm all that great. The issue is probably more one of a human tendency to care more about shouting whatever it is that is on your mind rather than paying attention to the rest of the conversation, though, epitomized by the Whatever's On Your Mind thread. It's less important that people discuss things as long as they can yell out whatever they want with the perception that people are paying attention, and maybe a few people will end up being remembered simply by the sheer volume and frequency of their thoughts put into a consumable form.

I'm inclined to agree with both of you, except that I would say that you (yes, including Fawful when he's not engaged in a photo battle or something) tend to put more thought into your posts than most, and whether or not many people bother to actually digest them, your posts are more likely to generate meaningful conversations than most. Oh, I think quite a few people here pay attention to what you say. People won't always know what to say in response, but I wouldn't say you've been widely ignored. One of the biggest reasons I'm left to clowning around a majority of the time here isn't just because I enjoy being a clown, even though I do, but it's also because I see few opportunities for real discussion around here anymore. To be honest, I've felt few opportunities for real discussion at all since Tales finished it's run. Most posts here either turn into a bitching match and people going at each other's throats (of which I'm guilty), lame jokes (of which I'm guilty), or desperately trying to bring back "the glory days" or whatever and old running jokes on the forums (like the Boobs topic). There is about an eight percent worth of real discussion left over from that. I made the Rate the Last Movie You Watched topic as a feeble effort to get discussion going about one of the biggest things I love talking about and learning about: film. Unfortunately for me, I've noticed that such real chances for discussion peter out before they reach their full potential. See: the Anime and Manga Thread (which I DON'T WANT TO SEE DIE PLEASE PEOPLE SERIOUSLY). Also, I personally prefer to read discussions than to join in on them most of the time. I don't always necessarily have anything to add, but I'm interested in everything everyone here has to say. Debates usually turn out badly for me, so I tend to avoid them. I was hoping with Telltale's new announcements that the forum would see a wealth of new discussion opportunities surge in, but The Walking Dead and Fables forums, two of the most interesting properties brought in, are left in drought. Only King's quest got any thriving discussion going. I want to read Fables and The Walking Dead so I can discuss them, but if it's just me and like two other people sitting alone in those forum areas running out of things to discuss within an hour, I'm left wondering what the point is.

First of all, I want to thank you all for all the positive feedback, I have no clue why I was scared of posting this now. I can see that I keep forgetting how friendly this community is.
I need to relax more.

And I am sorry if I have left out some of the Forum Guru’s, but the ones I posted was the ones at the top of my head, and if I had to write them all the list would be long and full of repeated stuff, because many of the Forum Guru’s are pretty much the same to me, all who can have a conversation and formulate it in a really neat way. Get their point out and make sense, or even be able to put people in their place with their logic. :)

I am sorry Tom, those people was just who was at the top of my head, but yes you are also a Forum Guru, if not the Forum Fool more (That is meant in a nice way.) You are always there to put a smile on everyone’s faces, and I like the fact that you can do that and still come with points to conversations that makes sense. First of all you are welcome. :) And it’s just my own personal thoughts, I think the term Forum Guru is made up in my own head with criteria for what makes a person that and I find people who fits. In my own mind I find people better than me in some ways, so I just wanted to point out what qualities I like in people and wish I had them.

Actually, I was referring to it in the sense of the literal ancient Roman fora rather than the Latin conjugation. Both forums and fora are considered valid words in modern English. There's actually quite a bit of debate over the proper term thanks to computer terminology (much like with viruses/virii and mouses/mice).

I wasn't arguing that it wasn't a valid word now (btw how do you differentiate the literal forum with the Latin noun describing it? That doesn't make sense), I was merely commenting that the original Latin (which includes the ancient Roman forum and it's pluralization fora, since Latin was the language of Rome) is literally translated 'market place'. The concept of the forum was an open aired market which served the secondary purpose of being a meeting place. The temple among other buildings opened out onto the forum and election speeches, political discussions, debates and many other functions naturally occurred in the forum because of this.

I was just clarifying that I used Roman instead of Latin for a specific reason; I wasn't addressing the use of the word in terms of the language of Rome (Latin) but in its very nature as Roman. It's confusing, I know. Frankly, you can get the same problem discussing things that relate to both the language and nation of many locales these days what with linguistic ubiquity.

I just wanted to say that most of the posts of the people mentioned in this thread are the main reason I keep reading these forums. Normally I would have lost interest in a forum like this a while ago but the people and characters that populate this place keep it interesting and vibrant. Kudos to you guys and gals.

Anyway, I'm definitely NOT a guru. I just can't have an opinion on a debate or have a thought without it changing so quick. I read the first post of a thread and begin to formulate an opinion, then I read the first response and I see the point the first responder is making, so my opinion sways. Then someone will post why they think the opposite and I see what they mean... it's a bit of an endless circle. I think it's because I don't know enough about whatever the subject is and because of that, I can't hold an opinion long enough without agreeing to someone elses point of view. I just end up learning things and not making any useful contributions myself. I'm think I'm better at listening than expressing myself.
