It seems I am the only (regular) South African here. Well I from the Republic of South Africa.

Some fun facts:

1) Yes, we are a country and we are referred to as South Africa. This is NOT a general term for "the south of Africa" although it is a good description of our location. (Southern Africa refers to the collection of countries in the south of our continent)

2) No, we do not have Lions and Tigers and Bears (oh my!) running around in the streets / as pets / as public transport.

3) There are quite a few people here from European descent (contrary to popular belief). A lot of (especially) Dutch, English, French and German immigrants came here during the late 17th century, as Cape Town was a midway point between Europe and India.

3) We have 11 (!) official languages, of which 1 is English, 1 is Afrikaans (a Dutch based language that has a lot of local content as well, no tongue clicking though.

I mistrust that sort of thing for just that reason. It's too easy to edit interview footage to suit your argument, and people who go out to interview with an outcome already in mind are even more likely to do so. Admittedly, there are a lot of Americans who don't actually know anything about the world, but there are also a lot who do. Trying to make huge generalizations about any large group of people is a bad idea, and can end up making you look foolish. Hah, yeah, that's true... while watching the video, I did think of Uruguay, but if someone would shove a microphone in my face, I'm not too sure... it's a bit like this trick you can pull on people (works best in real life): Point to something white and ask what colour it is, then immediately after they say 'white', ask what a cow drinks. A million to one they'll say milk, because our brain works like this: white + cow = milk. Of course, a cow drinks water.
