Yep it was Yar's Revenge, i always was fascinated by those blocky patterns.

16 of the best games for the VCS 2600: Asteroids, Vanguard, Berzerk, Missile Command, Defender, River Raid, Pitfall, Ms. Pac Man, Phoenix, The Empire strikes Back (beeing a Star Wars fan those days was just alright), Jungle Hunt, Wizards or War, Dig Dug, Moon Patrol, Yar's Revenge and Mr. H.E.R.O.
