Title really says it all
I'm gonna start with i find really sad that Roxas spent the whole summer in a machine and has friends but they don't even know him and they don't try to become friends :(

I liked the first Kingdom Hearts. It had a nice set of motifs that it incorporated into the story of each world that made it pretty clever. Kingdom Hearts 2 let me down a bit there, with its main plot sort of existing in a vacuum, and each world's story felt like a much more straightforward retelling of that movie's plot. Like I thought it was nice that the first game's Halloweentown story revolved around the heartless and not around Christmas, and so I was rather unhappy that the second game reused that location in such a less original manner. I'm hopeful that the eventual third game at least uses its increasingly convoluted main plot as an excuse to make the movie world plots more original.
I think it's neat that Neku from The World Ends With You is going to be in the 3DS one.

Kingdom Hearts is the only game Id buy a new console for(Yes Im a fanboy, shut up), heck its the only reason Sony's gaming department has gotten my money, minus the Vita, that thing is too convincing, KH would just be the icing on the cake for that:D
As for what you said, Roxas didnt spend the whole summer there, he spent 7 days, his mind was wiped in a way to make him THINK it was the whole summer. Plus the real kids never even met roxas to be friends with him.
Also, KH :DDD will have Augmented Reality features for the 3ds, so thats cool.:)
EDIT2:Agreed LuigiHann, no more retelling Disney stories, but the second half was of them exploring the worlds and having honest plot related issues to the story(such as Riku being found in Mulans world).

Yeah I don't think I even got to the halfway point in KH2, but I was so consistently disappointed by the first half that it was hard to stay motivated.

actally they did in kingdom hearts 358/2 days u go in missions with axel and u meet the kids in twlight town
Oh right. Well that means they DID try to be friends with him, but due to his job, he couldnt be friends.
EDIT:And valid point LuigiHann, the story doesnt honestly pick up until the second half. In fact KH2 probably had the slowest and worse start of a KH game.

KH2 probably had one of the slowest and worst starts of any game period. I had even forgotten about that whole Roxas intro.

And it's kind of a shame because from what I've read, trying to avoid spoilers but often failing, the main ongoing plotline of the KH series is actually some fascinating meta crap that I would probably love if I could actually stand playing through all of it in order.

Still going to try to unlock the secret ending, but I just watched it on Youtube (not like I haven't already read about what happens and seen it in Japanese before now) while I'm still fresh off the series. I'm not sure how accurate my time is, since the clock seemed to run while I was in Tag Mode.

As for Kingdom Hearts II, the first three or so hours are pretty damn slow, but after that, it's my favorite game in the series. Since I'm lazy and have to go get the laundry room ready for the repair guy coming tomorrow morning, here's my thoughts on the series.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
Holy crap. I couldn't have imagined that a Kingdom Hearts game on a portable system could be this good. The original storyline was very good, and a welcome departure from the rut of the same worlds over and over that we've fallen into. The battle system was amazing, with the Command Deck system adding a very nice layer of complexity that some of the other games are lacking. This was especially evident in the optional boss battles, which were by far the most difficult thing I've experienced in this series.
That's not to say the game doesn't have its flaws, though. Each character's story felt very short, though this is a bit understandable when you stop and consider that each world's story has three acts and the overall story is three times longer than each character's story. And the Command Deck system could get a little irritating when it had to be used continuously, like in the aforementioned boss battles, the problem being that when both the movement and command selection systems are mapped to the same half of the system, it's hard to manipulate both at once, and I found myself using my index finger on the D-pad at a few points, which can get painful after a while. Also, while most of the requisite journal report completion crap was actually pretty enjoyable this time around, the Mirage Arena was pretty ridiculous. I would be more okay with it if we only had to go through each challenge once for journal completion, but it's pretty irritating that you then have to do the same challenges over and over again to reach an arbitrary number of medals.
Overall, I thought it was one of the best games in the series, with a lot of innovations to offer and most of its faults being pretty forgivable. 8/10
Kingdom Hearts
Being the original game, it's sort of hard to compare it to the others and fault it. Nitpicks first. I felt it started out a bit slow. The Destiny Islands sequence doesn't bother me so much, but it feels like it took a little too long to get going once you reach Traverse Town, and the first few worlds aren't terribly exciting. Wonderland is all right, but Deep Jungle tends to feel fairly disappointing, and I always dread having to put up with Olympus Coliseum (the only damn world to be playable in all six games so far). Character growth can also be fairly irritating, with the gaining of new abilities and the AP to equip them feeling pretty unbalanced.
All that said, it's a solid first outing for the series, certainly good enough to hook me. Most of the Disney worlds either stick close enough to the original film plotlines to invoke nostalgia or have compelling original storylines, and the selection of worlds covered a nice spectrum. Maleficent was an excellent choice as a leader for the other villains, and Hollow Bastion had a great atmosphere for the game's climax. Xehanort's Heartless, while not necessarily a great boss in his first couple forms, made for a decent villain, and the original portion of the story was decently compelling and did a good job of tying together the Disney portions.
Overall, not my favorite game in the series by any means, but all together solid. 7/10
Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
I'll admit, I wasn't a huge fan of the card system when I played Chain of Memories on the GBA for the first time. By the time I finished Sora's story and got to Riku, I was so burned out on it I just quit. I still had similar feelings about it when I started the PS2 remake some time ago. Then I took a break and started over after playing Birth by Sleep and using the Command Deck system. Suddenly, the card system makes so much more sense. Again, it adds a layer of complexity that the other games don't have. You can't just button mash, you actually have to think about how you've built your deck and what cards you have available to you, either to make the sleight you want or to break enemy cards. Once you wrap your head around it, the system actually becomes pretty compelling, and the changes made to the system for Riku's half of the game and the new strategies they require are a nice game changer.
That said, Castle Oblivion can get tedious as hell. I found that I would begin to favor certain types of room cards, with the result that I would end up going through the same rooms over and over again, until everything started to run together. I understand that this is the PS2 version remaining faithful to what allowed the GBA version (a valliant effort in iteslf) to even function, but it can become repetative and boring. It's also a sharp contrast to the more story-driven games, restricting the story to only certain special rooms and between floors. Riku's story is even worse in this respect, as the story rooms have been mostly eliminated, with most worlds only having one such room that only leads you into a boss battle with little to no context for why you're fighting this boss.
Overall, I had far more fun with it than I expected to, especially after playing the original GBA version, but it has some serious problems getting in the way of really enjoying it. 6.5/10
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
This game was something of a let-down, and a few of its problems can be traced back to making it fit Organization XIII. There's the change from open-world to mission-based, which makes sense for the Organization but takes away a lot from the game. Then there's the almost complete removal of any character interaction or story in the Disney worlds, which again makes sense for the Organization, but removed one of the major components that makes the series good and makes the Disney worlds feel pretty dull at times. Then there's the panel system for stat growth. An interesting idea, but it feels like it gets in the way more than anything else, and playing Tetris to equip myself isn't really my idea of fun. Then there's the challenges, which are just a way to make us play the same dull missions over again but now make some of them criminally difficult.
That said, it does a couple of things well. Some of the story missions with Xaldin in Beast's Castle were a nice nod towards upcoming events in Kingdom Hearts II, and it was nice to have that year gap between Chain of Memories and KHII filled in. The same goes for Roxas's past, as it was hard to care about him in Kingdom Hearts II when he had just popped up out of nowhere. It also made Axel a more compelling and relatable character and made a few nice nods towards the pasts of the Organization members.
Overall, I wouldn't call it a terrible game, but it certainly did a lot wrong and is the weakest in the series for it. 5/10
Kingdom Hearts II
I would probably call this the definitive Kingdom Hearts game. It has everything important to the series, and it has it in good balance. The original storyline takes a bit more presence, and while a lot of people have a problem with Organization XIII, I enjoyed having them as the antagonists and didn't think their presence was too overbearing. The selection of Disney worlds was also a nice balance of old and new and all pretty good choices (with the exception of you, Port Royal), and it was a great move to give each world two sections of story, giving you a reason to return other than item collection.
And speaking of item collection, the game took just about every grinding element and made it all much less annoying this time. Leveling up completely is made easy if you know how to do it right, and with seven Lucky Lucky abilities for a 627.5% drop rate, collecting items for synthesis isn't much of a trouble at all. And most of the minigames were actually pretty enjoyable.
If I want to come up with gripes about this game, I'm going to have to get pretty specific. First, there's Atlantica. As if a poorly executed rhythm game wasn't bad enough, the new songs are all annoying as hell, and the old songs have been redone and are grating to listen to, and then they make you play them all twice. Then there's the three hour prologue as Roxas. I don't have a problem with the premise, just the length. Other than that, my only major complaint is that Port Royal's take on the Pirates story is sort of weak, the undead pirates are annoying as hell to fight, and the character models and voices are...well, bad.
Overall, I'd have to say this is my favorite game in the series. Just about everything it does is done well. 8.5/10
Kingdom Hearts Re:coded
Wow. It seems that they learned from every mistake they made on Days. We're back to a more or less open-world sort of game. The command deck system from Birth by Sleep has been brought over, modified to the DS's controls in a way that makes it very comfortable to use and some nice changes to the melding system. Gone is the panel system, replaced by the infinitely better Stat Matrix. And while all five of the worlds are lifted yet again from Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories, the stories have been completely revamped and I found that I didn't mind at all. Even the boss fights, which all felt identical to Kingdom Hearts when I fought them again in Chain of Memories, were made fresh by changing the mechanics completely for each one.
Now the problems. It's short. Very short. The game is supposed to be filled out by encouraging you to go back to worlds you've already been to, playing the story over again, and doing things you couldn't before and completing ridiculous objectives for trophies. That doesn't feel very compelling to me. And the Stat Matrix has its share of problems. Chips can be swapped but never removed, and I always felt like I wasn't getting enough chips, only having gotten enough for 56% of the grid by the time I completed the story. Weapons weren't very good either. I pretty much used the Kingdom Key until I finished the Coliseum, then I used Olympia for the rest of the game until I got Zero-One at the end. I tried using Oblivion, one of the most iconic weapons in the game, only to find that I was taking damage with every hit. It took me a while to figure out why I kept coming close to death.
Overall, I enjoyed what I played of it, but it turned out to be less than I was expecting. While most of this can be understood, given that it's a DS port of a mobile phone game, it still left some to be desired. 6/10

I've always felt that at least on a certain level the games were pulled from The Verse to give people some imaginary concept, or idea , how life may be. I love the Kingdom Hearts games, and I think people love the concept behind them because mentally it's a concept humans love and I think that psychic energy is there because there may be some truth in concept of our state of reality. I think the games actually show us in a fun, light hearted way what goes on in our Verse.

I'd love the Kingdom hearts series if it were not for these two things:
1. The very silly plot. The first game is fine. Kind of cheesy, but its a great experience.
However 2nd game onwards, the plot get very silly, very quickly, and its hard to really care all too much about it.
Not a deal breaker though
2. Re-using worlds.
This series is VERY, VERY guilty of this.
Especially most of the portable ones.
I get dulled out everytime I go to Wonderland, or Agrobah, or Halloween Town.
And the funny thing is, there are so, so many disney properties out there still untapped.
Its pretty shameful really.
Still, if there was a proper Kingdom Hearts 3, and a 3DS remake of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep I would buy them day one!

Nomura's aware of the whole worlds thing, and he's said that none of the Disney worlds used so far will be returning again (though I'm really hoping that this doesn't exclude the possibility of a Tron: Legacy version of Space Paranoids). The original worlds will still be around, but Kingdom Hearts 3D's Disney worlds will be all new.
And speaking of Kingdom Hearts 3D, it's supposed to have a "story on-par with a numbered title" and tie together all the loose ends of the series, setting the stage for Kingdom Hearts III.

(To be honest, I haven't played one since the first, (well I played "Days" but thats basically a remixed and inferior version of the first really), but I have looked everything up and kept myself informed so if a good one comes out, I can jump straight in and enjoy myself)
Still it would be nice to eventually get the whole series on one console.
Probably a PS3 collection akin to the Metal Gear, Sly Cooper ect.
Maybe make it two volumes with 3 or 4 games on it each, then release Kingdom Hearts 3 seperately.

I think the best you can hope for is that rumored HD port of Birth by Sleep to the PS3 and possibly HD ports of Kingdom Hearts, KHII, and Re:Chain of Memories. I doubt that Days and Re:Coded will ever get ported over.
Really, my main hope for the series is that they pull a Final Fantasy XIII and release Kingdom Hearts III on the Xbox in the US. That's exactly the reason I wanted a PS3 over a 360, but a free 360 fell into my lap, so now I'm hoping that I can avoid having to own all three consoles from this generation.

I could see Days and Re:Coded being made for the PSN or something though.
(Since quite a few portable games have been ported over this gen)
Would be nice to see a HD pack of KH1, KH2, RE:COM and Birth by Sleep for about the same price as the Metal Gear Solid pack.

did any of u really think goofy was dead in kingdom hearts 2?
1.Just use spoiler tags.
2.No. Disney would NOT kill of one of their characters.
And also, I anyone else find the stupidity in KH 358 days ending.
Not the Xion thing, that part was supposed to be crazy and odd to add to it, but the Riku fight.
Riku sees Roxas, and Roxas even said he was going to
A.Destroy Kingdom Hearts and stop the organization when they are at their weakest moment. He would have saved all of the worlds, and then go off to find Sora which would have had him ultiamately fuse with him anyway, but NOOO Riku had to take Roxas out then, have him fuse with Sora, and then make HIM go fight the organization when they have recovered from the loss of Xion, Roxas, and the castle oblivion people. THAT IS STUPID! Just let Roxas take care of Kingdom Hearts, then when he goes to find sora and fuse with him, Sora and Riku can go home knowing the worlds were saved.
How hard was that? Not so hard since Roxas wouldnt have put up a fight, Riku wouldnt have injured himself or lost to the darkness and look like Ansem, and Ansem the Wise wouldnt be in the realm of darkness.
Ugh I hate nitpicking stories, ruins everything for me, Im already nitpicking Deus Ex:Human Revolution.

Letting Roxas go after Kingdom Hearts would've been a terrible idea.
I can't let you go doing anything crazy... If you go after Kingdom Hearts, the last thing you'll get is your life back. The Organization will destroy you.
Roxas just didn't have the strength to take on the Organization, despite how badass he may have seemed in the last mission of the game. If Riku had let him continue, everything would've been lost. The only one strong enough to take on Xemnas was a complete Sora, and Xemnas still would've been too much for him without Riku's help. Roxas would've been torn apart.

My brother is a huge Kingdom Hearts fan, he has all the games that has been made and is even levelling to max level on number 1 and 2, but I think he gave up on the best synthesised weapon he could get in number 1 because the right items never dropped.
I my self is not really that interested, I am put of by games where the plot is so confusing you have no idea what is going on.
And all Japanese games seems to do this, I am really struggling with what is going on in Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy.
But I don't know, maybe it has something to do with me being very simple minded. :p

I used to be a fan of the Kingdom Hearts series. I could really care less about it now considering the fact that its another cash cow from Square. The thing I loved about the KH series was the music. I even have a few songs from the game on my Ipod Touch. And I really like how well the Disney characters look in the game. Square does a better job with CG for Disney characters than Disney does.
The main problem with this game series aside from the fanbase being more of a nutshell than Twilight and Harry Potter is this the fact that Disney's characters as well as the FF characters are cast aside for new characters. . Like Sora and the organization. This may vary to a few people. I never liked Sora's character, he was a pain. He was like a reject from a proposed FF game that somehow made its way through the cracks. It would have been better if somebody like Donald or Mickey was the main character for the series over Sora. I remember reading an interview that Disney wanted Donald as the main character for KH, but Square wanted Mickey as the main character. It wasn't until the designer/creator rejected that and created Sora and his crew. If they went with Mickey, Epic Mickey probably wouldn't have happened.

Well I think Sora is a pretty good choice for a character actually.
He has that Square hero thing going on for him, but he does have that Disney naivety.
However, I do agree that it is annoying that the Disney and Square characters take a back seat.
Would have been great if in the second game, the Square stuff would have become much more important to the plot.
Maybe something like, Sora finds out from Yen Sid that even though the heartless had been stopped in the Disney worlds, they haven't been sealed in the Square worlds, and due to events prior to the first game, those worlds had already succumbed to the Heartless, (since the Hero was killed), and their universe (whats left of it) has been drifting into the Disney universe.
So Sora and co. have to travel to the very outskirts of the universe to stop a stronger version of the Heartless from completely infecting the Disney world.
That would leave plenty of opportunity to explore new Disney worlds, change any existing ones (and have a reason to go back to them), and give many Square properties a chance to shine.
(Imagine Bahamut Lagoon, Chrono Trigger (in fact Chrono could be that hero who died and then one would have to try to resurrect him and travel back into the past to stop the Heartless in the first place), Mana series, Saga series, maybe even Dragon Quest and Star Ocean (since they were merged with enix in 2003) and of course a few Final Fantasy worlds, (I'd choose any out of 6-10))
It may not make 100% sense, but it would be a damn good game.
Besides, its not like the rest of the series makes much sense... XD

XD
NOthing in Kingdom Hearts makes any sense so that wouldn't be a big differentiations XD Also, I do agree it would be nice to explore Square worlds, but I don't think you can afford to put Sora in the backseat. I think there are a sufficient number of fans/former fans who are tired of certain Square cliches. Sora manages to be upbeat which is rare in a lot of Square games these days. I've been dealing with brooding since Shadow showed up at the tavern.

To me, Square is doing a great job with a tricky balancing act. If too much emphasis was put on the Disney worlds, the main plot of the series would be very disjointed. To me, the Disney worlds are a nice inclusion and an essential part of the games, but the original characters' plot is what ties it all together. Which isn't to say that it's okay for the original plot to totally overshadow the Disney worlds. Days did that and it was a disaster. But in the other five games, I feel that Square did an excellent job of balancing the Disney worlds with the original plot.

I liked Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. Never could really get into Chain of Memories that much, relied on the manga to fill in the holes there. Now it's just getting ridiculous with side stories. 358/2 Days, Re: Coded, Birth by Sleep, and soon Dream Drop Distance...Where's Kingdom Hearts 3? Now, I don't have anything against the side stories...in moderation. If they only did Birth by Sleep between 2 & 3, it would've been fine. I can't say too much on 358/2 Days or whatever, but I haven't heard too many good things. Birth by Sleep, I've played and it's good, but still. I want Kingdom Hearts 3. It's one of those things that I am shocked that the biggest guys at Square aren't saying, "Okay, put down Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Type 0 and XIII-2 and put this game out."
In spite of what someone said earlier about it being a Square cash cow, it isn't. Or else we'd have 3 by now. Square has forgotten what the fans want. And they're suffering for it. Don't get me wrong, I want Final Fantasy XIII-2. But developing a sequel to a game that split the fandom and essentially tanked is far too risky for Square's financial situation. Not to mention that despite the fact that fans want it, we won't be seeing Versus XIII until probably late next year. It seems to me that the logical thing would have been to put off XIII-2 until the game that people WANT is out. More examples of this bad strategy is Kingdom Hearts 3 and a certain Final Fantasy remake. Instead of Kingdom Hearts 3, we're getting YET ANOTHER SIDE STORY! And instead of them remaking Final Fantasy VII, which fans have been clamoring for since the PS3 tech demo and would probably go a long way toward easing Square's financial troubles, we're getting a remake of Final Fantasy X, which has aged surprisingly well!
So, I'm starting to see the writing on the wall for Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Square-Enix in general. I wouldn't be surprised if they're bankrupt this time next year.

I think the problem here is the automatic assumption that if a game doesn't have a number in the title, it's a side story. Ever hear of Resident Evil Code: Veronica? Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Revelations? These are games without numbers in the title that are part of their core series. Birth by Sleep is not a side story, it's a prequel that sets the stage for the entire series. And Kingdom Hearts II makes absolutely zero sense without Chain of Memories in the middle, and 358/2 Days contributes to that. I admit, Coded served almost entirely as a plot device to catch the characters up with what we already knew. But Dream Drop Distance has been said to have a story "on par with a numbered title", and it's also supposed to set the stage for Kingdom Hearts III.
What I'm saying is don't write these games off because they don't have numbers in the title. They're all important parts of a complex narrative.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/GuruGuru214/KHTimeline2.png
And there isn't a single game in the series that I didn't thoroughly enjoy on some level. If you're having trouble with Chain of Memories, I can relate, and I advise you to look into Re:Chain of Memories.
Also, there's a couple plot gaps you may not have considered that may be made into games at some point.
Presently there are 4 main untold stories to consider: "the period of the King's absence", "the period of Riku's absence", "Roxas's time in Organization XIII" and "Xehanort's past". In this case, the story of "the period of the King's absence" is set in the realm of darkness. I am examining a way to tell these 4 stories so I might be able to find a way to tell them soon.
Roxas's time in the Organization was made into 358/2 Days and Xehanort's past became Birth by Sleep, but we still don't know anything about the absences of Riku and Mickey. Which are admittedly easier to write off than Roxas and Xehanort, which is likely why the series moved on its way toward Kingdom Hearts III via Coded and Dream Drop Distance, but there's still content there.
Edit: I just watched the TGS trailer for Dream Drop Distance. It looks like we're going to get to see a bit of that missing chunk between Birth by Sleep and Kingdom Hearts, when the apprentices became Nobodies, and I have a feeling that this "Keyhole of Sleep" thing may end up leading to the characters finding Ventus's heart inside of Sora.

Mine would be, without question, the Vanitas Remnant and the Unknown from Birth by Sleep. I'm not sure which was worse. And coming in third and fourth are Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts II and Xaldin, though they've both gotten much easier now that I've learned some new strategy on them.
My strategy on Xaldin goes all the way back to the point that Mickey gives you Master Form. From that point forward, I don't use drives at all so I don't have any chance of getting Anti-form if I try to drive against Xaldin, since that was the main cause of me dying the first time I played.
As for Sephiroth: Trinity Limit and Berserk Charge.

Yeah, I've never died against him either. He's not a pushover, but he's no Sephiroth. It's been a while, so the best advice I can offer is to make sure you're at the right level for this part of the game (and really, thanks to the Pride Rock trick, which you can do as soon as you beat Xigbar and get Magnega, you should be at level 99 by now), and make effective use of Final Form and the Berserk reaction command. Other than that, hit GameFAQs.

Go to Pride Rock, disable your party's healing abilities, equip the Gull Wing Keyblade and all of your Experience Boost abilities (and if I remember, there's also an EXP ring you should equip), as well as the ability Berserk Charge. Allow yourself to get damaged just enough for the meter to start flashing red, then go out to the top of Pride Rock and spam Magnega on the huge swarm of Rapid Thrusters. The MP balls they drop should keep your Magnega going for quite a while, and when your MP runs out, you can start an endless Keyblade combo on them until it's full again. When the swarm is all dead, just go back inside and come back out and they'll all be back. Easiest way to level up to 99.

Basically, the less you drive, the less chance you have of getting Anti Form, the chance is way higher during Organization member fights, the chance is reset to zero when you get a new form, and using Final Form actually decreases the chance, so if you use nothing but Final Form once you get it, you'll never see Anti Form again.

It's random. It can turn up randomly while using other drive forms at any point after the cutscene where Sora fights Roxas, after which it appears in the drive menu. The best way is right after the cutscene where Sora creates a bridge to the Castle That Never Was. You don't go forward, so that Goofy and Donald are standing around instead of following you in this room. You go back into the Dark City and activate a drive form, preferably in battle. If you get Final Form, awesome. If not, go back to the room with everyone standing around, and your drive form will deactivate and leave you with a full gauge. Repeat until you get Final Form. This is also a great place to level up Wisdom Form and maybe Valor Form.
Since you've beaten the game, though, you cant try the same thing using the very last room before the Xemnas fight. Since everyone's standing around there, it does the exact same thing.

Things Square could do to save themselves:
1) Release Kingdom Hearts 3.
2) Release Final Fantasy Versus XIII since a lot of people still want that one.
3) Remake Final Fantasy VII.
Instead we get Kingdom Hearts Dream, Drop, Distance which is being released on a platform that has...well, not done as well as it should thanks to more advertising of the 3D rather than the actual improvements over the DS it has, and an HD "port" of Final Fantasy X, which really...why do we need it? I read an article that changed my thinking on VII altogether. One was how weird and distinct it was, and how it could get away with things because of the lower resolution graphics. Do I want a high rez transgender Cloud? I'm fairly progressive but it's still something that would sit odd with me.
Heh reminds me that. I remember reading a debate not long back. It was regarding the complaint of recent FF characters being stupidly androgynous. If you think about it, the characters from the earlier FF's are way more feminine looking than Vaan, Hope or whatever could ever be. However, people sort of accepted it more, because it wasn't as obvious. So like you'd see it on the boxart maybe, but ingame it's just a small face icon and the blocky sprite. However, now it's full 3d and you see that character all the time, suddenly it becomes a problem, or an annoyance to some.

I'm lumping these two together under one entry because they sort of tie together. In Metroid Prime, just that short clip of a hand bursting from the remains of Metroid Prime, showing that something went wrong and things aren't over just yet, was an incredible teaser that I still love. And in Metroid Prime 3, I really loved the way the series culminated with Samus going to Phaaze, the source of all the trouble in the last three games, and finally eliminating her doppelganger. Then on top of that, I really enjoyed the sequence where she returned to Elysia to reflect. I thought it was simple, but effective.
4. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
You guys really didn't think I would make a list without including a Kingdom Hearts game, did you? Throughout the game, you pretty much know where things are going, but it still blew me away to actually see how everything played out and where everyone ended up.
3. Assassin's Creed II
As much as the end of Gemini Rue had me glued to my seat, wanting to reach the ending, that's how bad the ending of Assassin's Creed II left me wanting the next game. It pretty much blew my mind when Ezio finally reached his goal, only for the hologram to ignore him and speak to Desmond, knowing that he would be listening in on Ezio's memories over 500 years later. And to cap it all off, Desmond's response was perfect. "What the fuck?!"
2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
I've always loved the story of Majora's Mask, so naturally, it has my favorite ending of the series. Granted, I've never seen what the ending is like if you don't complete the Bomber's Notebook, but in the ending where you do, I love seeing all of the game's plot threads resolved, the end result of every single person you helped during the game.
1. Gemini Rue
That's right. After going through the list of every game I've ever played, choosing my favorite endings, and weighing them against each other, I decided that my favorite video game ending is from an indie game. I admit, as the game came closer to the reveal, I began to guess that Sayuri and Epsilon Five were same person, but I didn't realize that Delta Six and Azriel were the same person until the last second, and it left me reeling. By that point, even though I had no business still being awake, I couldn't leave my computer until I had finished that game.
Honorable Mention: Tales of Monkey Island, Episode 4: The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood
If it wasn't for this ending, I probably wouldn't be posting on this forum right now. This is the one case where I can honestly say that I've made a ton of friends just because the ending of a game was so intense, I just had to talk to somebody about it, and I came to these forums to do that.

No, I just felt like running the series in chronological order, starting with my first play of Birth by Sleep, and ending with my first play of Re:Coded (which wasn't out yet when I started). Other than that, I'd played the whole series before, though I hadn't played Riku's half of Chain of Memories, and I played Re:Chain of Memories for the first time for that run.

Birth by Sleep was as significant a Kingdom Hearts game as either of the console ones with near identical gameplay (though with an added layer of complexity) and what I would consider an even heavier impact on the storyline than the first game. But I've argued this into the ground with you and had everything I've said completely ignored, so I'm done with it.

I own KH1, KH2, and 358/2 Days (have yet to play that one). I liked Sora's character and the story in the first game but the second game...all it sounded like to me was "OMG heartless! Let's get the heartless some more and forget everything else that was important!" (Though it's been a while since I've played it, I swear he didn't care for his friends as much aka Riku for example). Even if it wasn't how it was supposed to come off, Sora sounded like a broken record compared to Roxas who seemed to have more emotion going on. Don't get me wrong I love Kingdom Hearts, it just really bothers me when a character I like doesn't seem to offer more to the table. I also agree that the first half of the second game drags, but after that it gets a lot better. I haven't really gotten any of the other games just because I don't own the hand helds for them, I wouldn't mind playing them though.

I don't remember that part but one part i remember and i hate is when he fights nobodies with Seifer and when his friends see him with Seifer after the fight they just assume that Roxas was hanging out with Seifer and never question why he was with Seifer.

GuruGuru214
07/09/2012, 09:05 pm
...I can't tell if you're trolling or if you really meant that. It'd be impossible not to notice. They also have the same voice actors in all languages, same as Sora and Vanitas. It's all on purpose. Roxas looks like Ventus because Sora had Ventus's heart inside him. Roxas can dual-wield Keyblades because one of them is Sora's and one belongs to Ventus. And Vanitas looks like Sora because of Sora's heart connecting to Ventus.
Also, tonight I went back to Re:coded and started trying to get the 20 trophies I need to unlock the secret ending before 3D comes out.
ryannumber1gamer

GuruGuru214

Exactly. It gets a bit confusing once Xion gets involved (particularly involving one Keyblade existing in multiple places at once), but that's basically it.

GuruGuru214

Xion is the first product of the Replica Project (while the other Organization members' names are anagrams of their original names with an X, like Sora/Roxas and Ansem/Xemnas, Xion's name is an anagram of No. I with an X). Just like the Riku Replica was created by Vexen from data he collected by fighting Riku, Xion was created from Sora's memories, leaked through Roxas. In particular, she's created from his memories of Kairi, which is why she looks like her.

I hate the little mermaid level in KH 2! The songs are awful! and it keeps sending you to the ship till you get the next spell or drive limit to do what it wants you to even if you have it! It makes Sora look like a moron who keeps forgetting he has that powers till he gets to the ship.

Aside from the shitty music, the crap twist on rhythm games, and the fact that the English versions of the shitty songs without sound effects aren't available to replace the Japanese ones on the OST (the only such songs in the series, I think), my main problems with Atlantica in KHII are that they didn't feel like bothering to make a full world of it again but still felt compelled to include it anyway, that the story recycles parts of The Little Mermaid not used by the first game while ignoring a fair bit of the story from the first game, and that the Journal requires you to play each of the songs a second time. It doesn't even care how you do, just that you have to endure all of them twice.
ryannumber1gamer
07/10/2012, 06:11 am
It's been a while since i played KH 2 i might get some things wrong.
While i don't think the little mermaid level was horrible it was far from greatness as well. I think the main problem is that Square enix tried to make the level like the Winnie The Pooh world (where it's a bonus world with mini games and you had to come back to it when you had what was needed to continue) But there is a few big differences between the two worlds. 1, The Winnie the pooh world has different mini games so it was not the same boring mini game. 2. The Winnie the pooh world had a reason why it was mini games and why it was a bonus world. It was a bonus world in Kingdom Hearts 1. 3. The only reason i think why The little mermaid's world was in Kingdom Hearts 2 was because it was in Kingdom Hearts 1.

The guy who came up with Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has expressed interest in a Kingdom Hearts version (among others).
How awesome would that be? It'd be the first Square Enix made spin-off, yeah, but apart from a Command Board compilation I can't think of a better style of spin-off. I'd love to see notable events in the series as musical mini-games, especially if they can get the rights to Disney tracks as well as all the KH specific ones.

Can you explain about the character switching in the game i want to know how it works and if its good
Basically, you play as Sora for a while to start, then it auto switches between Sora and Riku a couple of times.
Then the game makes it so when you play as a character, you are on a timer.
A bar depletes over time, and at the last 30 seconds it goes into "Bonus Time" which gives you some bonuses.
Then when it all times out, you switch to the other character and the bar resets.
Using the Drop-me-not items extend that bar for a period of time so as long as you have them you can remain as one character indefinately.
Both characters level seperately.
When you DO drop though, it gives you point that go towards upgrades you can buy before you drop into the other character. The rest gets converted to money.
(and characters share Dream eaters. Don't forget that point!)
The main upgrade system though is in the Dream-eaters.
Make as many different ones as you can at high grades, and you get lots of different paths to develop, which gives you spells, abilities and stat boosts.
Petting a Dream eater gives them a boost in happiness and ability points to spend, and exp.
But it can also change their personality, which is good because it can unlock extra paths in their ability chains, further boosting characters capabilities.

All rightie then, a little farther in and I can honestly say, the drop system is pretty freaking stupid and pointless. It does nothing to help anyone at all! It doesn't help you from neglecting one story for another as you can freely switch back to the other(but whatever enemies you were fighting reset, including bosses), so it loses its one purpose, but keeps all the negative effects such as all your enemies being fully healed(you heal too, but still), you lose a deck slot to keep those drop-me-not items, and now you feel stressed and can't fight freely in each world, encouraging speedrunning instead of enjoying yourself.
Bad, bad design choice.

They put in a Fantasia world?! That sounds great i just wonder how they made a story for that.
So far, it's about Mickey when he was Yen Sid's apprentice. One thing that's really great is that aside from speaking in the cutscenes at the top of the tower, Sora and Riku don't speak at all in this world, including their attack calls, and many of the attack sound effects have been changed to fit with the orchestral music from Fantasia that plays throughout the world.
It's amazing.

Anyone else feel the worlds are a little... lackluster? I mean some story wise are great(Pranksters Paradise), but then there are worlds like The Hunchback of Notre Dame world, where Riku's story literally solves itself with the guy just falling into the fire... really? Maybe that's just me there.
Also, I'm a little confused, aren't Sora and Riku on different "types" of worlds each time and not traveling in the same worlds in different times? In Traverse Town it was shown there were 2 seperate worlds of that they were traveling, and same for Notre Dame's world since the antagonist died in 2 different ways, but then in worlds like Pranksters Paradise, it seems rather obvious that Sora shows up before Riku and that they are in the same world. Same could be said about Tron's world too. Which is it?

But Did he really just trip and fall? I mean he there wasn't anything happening, he was just walking on top of the tower watching, and then just randomly tripped was that exactly how it happened in the movie or was it more like what happened with Sora where He was about to attack Quasi before falling?

New name, movie its based off of, characters, astetic design, enemies, level design, etc... Heck, the only thing that are similar are the lightcycles, even Tron is different, and Sora even states that this isn't the world of Tron he remembers. I'd be more worried that Riku turns up in Monstro which only changes the layout and nothing else is changed.
Speaking of Tron It was established that this WASN'T the Tron Sora met in the past and have zero relation after Ansem copied the idea, how in the world did Sora make Tron remember him if this is the case?

Well to be fair since i know nothing of the ''new'' Tron KH world in KH 3d since the only gameplay i seen from that world was in a trailer with Clue (Not sure how you spell his name) in it. Also is any gameplay from the first gameplay shown in E3 in it? If i remember the footage was Sora playing around in Destiny Islands then it switches to Riku in Traverse Town?

As for the E3 gameplay, I'd have to see the exact footage, but there so far is no Destiny Islands to play at, Riku does however go to Traverse Town at least twice in the story.

Putting spoiler tags on this one in chunks so people can spoil as far as they want to. Not that they're very big spoilers.
During the middle part of the credits, there's a drop minigame that unlocks a secret message if you collect all of the glowing letters to spell out "Secret Message Unlocked" on the touch screen. The message says:
The past will be reawakened
as a new number
in never-before-seen detail
Prepare yourself for the awakening
of the next number
Which seems to indicate that the next title will indeed be Kingdom Hearts III and the first Kingdom Hearts game on a current-gen console, likely the PS3 and maybe the Xbox 360 in North America.
Also, during the end part of the credits, they do the usual thing of showing the characters doing things during the credits, except this time they're all accompanied by letters. If you put them all together, it spells "This leads to KINGDOM HEARTS". After that, the last two sets of characters to come on screen aren't accompanied by letters, but there's three characters in each shot. Specifically, DiZ, Roxas, and Xion in the first shot, and Terra, Aqua, and Ven in the second, so most of the people Sora is supposed to rescue.
I still need to get four more trophies to unlock the secret ending. Also, you apparently have to re-fight the final boss (And there's a lot of them. As I recall, Riku has to fight Ansem, gets a reprieve at a save point, then immediately has to fight Young Xehanort and then the Armored Ventus Nightmare.) and then have the correct answers to three questions you get asked at the end.

Look all i said was A Tron world has already been introduced to the KH universe. It's like i went and watched Tron then went and watched Tron Leagcy and said to myself ''I wish this took place as the same world as in Tron 1'' (I'm talking about the game grid) It does not matter what is different about it. It's like i called Hollow Baston a new world in KH 2 because it is now different than KH 1.

I would recommend the highest magic-boosting Keyblade you have and commands like Thundaga, Spark Dive, and Triple Plasma. Also, get the highest-level Cure spell you can, put it in the last slot in your deck, and make it your shortcut. Got me through the whole game. Riku's deck was similar, but I favored more attack-based commands and Keyblades with him.

I honestly can't remember. I didn't ignore the Dream Eaters, but then I also only used something like five different ones between Sora and Riku. I know I picked up Thundara somewhere, the Moogles wouldn't sell me Thundaga until late, and when I wanted a second Thundaga, I couldn't find a Moogle selling Thunder magic again. I think Triple Plasma was in a chest somewhere, and Spark Dive is available from every Moogle in the game.
Oh, and if you've completely ignored the Spirits, you should have an abundance of parts to create them. Go create the best Meow Wow you can so you can get Leaf Bracer. I would also recommend pointing your camera at this thing:

I got the seven trophies I needed for standard difficulty (plus an extra), but the boss fight thing is worse than I thought. When they make you go back to do it again, they really make you do it all. If you try to go into the fight as Riku, he falls asleep and the game does a force drop to make you fight Xemnas as Sora first. Then, Riku gets to fight Young Xehanort and the Armored Ventus Nightmare. Also, every report I hear says that the middle part of the credits thing I mentioned...

no, that was well done if you mean the final boss. This has the exact same tiny square that doesn't allow any moverablility, then forces bosses that REQUIRE a giant space to dodge the attacks to even be slightly fair. The only strategy is to freaking levelgrind. That is very VERY poor game design for an action game if it actually goes down to being 20 levels higher than what the game says. And the 4 bosses actually had a checkpoint system. Die at the final boss of the rotaion? F you! You get to play the whole dang thing again!
What's funny is Riku's side of this story is that he fights 4 common dream eaters and leaves. Its like no one thought "hey, anyone think it's silly to use copy and paste to make a boss fight?"

The third district of Traverse town, that little square in the center. There'es enough to do rather basic dodges, but when the bosses themselves are really quick and can attack in all directions, its near impossible to dodge.
I just beat it after 2 hours(not joking) of level grinding, which is the definition of poor game design(or a turn based RPG like Pokemon, but it isn't that).

Yes, but the area is much smaller than before, so it made things a pain when the bosses have so much range/attack power. You fight the bosses prior to that, but all 3 times its in a giant open area for you to get away and dodge the attacks that way, its nearly impossible to do so close range.

You get "Spirits" which is kind of like Pokemon in that you can pick and choose your own to collect and train, but unlike Pokemon, how useful a spirit is won't be figured out until you've used it in battle and got your but kicked, so I barely mess with the feature, unless a spirit can tech you a really cool ability(which some can)

I wasn't sure what you were talking about for a minute. So you're at the part where you've beaten the first group of worlds and got sent back to Traverse Town to fight the Spellican? I'm sort of surprised. I didn't have any problem with that.
Really, the only problems the game gave me were some of the Secret portals (where you re-fight harder versions of the bosses) and the Julius fight.
Speaking of Julius, if you're planning on earning the trophies for all treasure chests found or all special and secret link portals cleared (and they're some of the easier trophies to get for the secret ending), make absolutely certain that you've cleared out the Fountain Plaza in Traverse Town as both Sora and Riku before you beat the game, because each character won't be able to get back in there until you've fought the game's ultra-hard secret boss as them.
Seriously, the guy is so bad, you get the Ultima Weapon for beating him.

I don't know. I have no idea what level I was at at the time. And I'm not sure which boss it is you're talking about.
-watch cutscene-
Oh, that's right, I forgot that you had to re-fight the first few bosses at that part. I really don't know what to tell you about how I did it. I didn't have to do any level grinding, and I really just shot through the story mode and did all the sidequest stuff later. I did have as many HP Boost, Attack Haste, Magic Haste, and Defense Boost abilities as I could equipped at the time, from Kab Kannon and Frootz Cat. Maybe Defender, if I had it at the time.
It might be worth noting that I gave Sora a deck oriented around magic, especially Thundara/Thundaga, where I gave Riku an attack-orented deck, and I equipped their Keyblades accordingly.

This...sounds to me like you spent too much time grinding. I don't remember how long Country of the Musketeers took me, but it was certainly longer than that.
In other news, I'm back to working on the Re:coded secret ending, and it's proving to be a huge pain still. I managed to finish the hidden system sector in Hollow Bastion, but I can't manage to get through it with enough SP to collect the Ultima Weapon. The one thing that's really tripping me up (which is weird, since I did it no problem last time, just before bugged Data-Roxas wiped the floor with me) is beating an Eliminator without dying. No matter what I do, it kills me before I have any kind of a chance to kill it. I think I need to use the HP cheat somehow, use a Megalixir before going in the room, get behind it, and hit it with Mega Flare.
I think I'm going to take a break from this and go hit up the Coliseum for levels 16-30.

Riku is currently level 24 and the game says the world is level 30, I'm technically underleveled and beat it in 10 minutes. Note, just Riku's side, I have yet to see how long Sora's is.

No, the Fountain Plaza. It's the area just before the Fourth District, after the Back Streets for Riku and the Post Office for Sora.
Keep in mind that some of the chests around there require you to use Reality Shift to get them.

Ah, thanks. Will clear that quickly and see if Sora's 3 muskateer's level is any longer.

You may want to keep this (http://www.gamefaqs.com/3ds/997779-kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance/faqs/64741) in mind. The special portals are link portals where special colored enemies with special drops appear, and they grant a trophy and one of the best Keyblades in the game when you finish all of them. Each character has six in each world (three in The World that Never Was), and which of the six is currently available is random and changes when you drop. Sora and Riku each have one in the Fountain Plaza. For Sora, the one in the Fountain Plaza might appear when the forecast enemy is "Zippy zapmeister" (Thunderaffe), but there's three portals in that world for that enemy, so you'll have to keep trying until that one comes up. For Riku, the portal in the Fountain District will definitely appear when the forecast enemy is "Doggish-cat thing" (Meow Wow).

Would I need to beat those for the "beat all link portals" trophy, or just for the special one?

The trophy is for beating all special and secret link portals, so you'll have to beat the six special portals in each world, plus the one secret one in each world. So everything in that FAQ link.

And then the regular ones have there own trophy then?

No. The only other trophy there is for portals is for placing 30 of your own.
Also, for clearing all of the Secret Portals, you get the Unbound Keyblade, which has the highest strength, critical hit rate, and reality shift rate in the game. As far as magic, it's inferior to End of Pain (which you get for clearing all of the Special Portals) and the Ultima Weapon. When I had to fight the final bosses again, I had Riku equipped with Unbound, and I equipped Sora with the Ultima Weapon.

Finally unlocked the secret ending in Re:coded. It added about 30 hours onto my play clock.

Well I beat Fantasia(I'm playing this at the worst pace ever, but oh well) and this world so far is the only one that I liked on both Sora and Riku's sides of the stories.
Both boss fights were terrible though, Riku's was pathetically easy and lost potential, while Sora's was just plain stupid as the boss can teleport anywhere any time and is invincible while doing so and 9 times out of 10 he will teleport just as you hit attack, and can even start a pathetic "chase" sequence at will which makes you lose your powers until you catch him, and 10 times out of 10, its when you need to use cure...
This game is really not letting me enjoy it.

Oh right. Well that means they DID try to be friends with him, but due to his job, he couldnt be friends.
EDIT:And valid point LuigiHann, the story doesnt honestly pick up until the second half. In fact KH2 probably had the slowest and worse start of a KH game.
You know what's funny? I was wondering what people first throught when they played as Roxas first instead of Sora. I wondered were they like ''What! Where's Sora!? Who's this guy! I throught this was a sequel!! Sora's on the box of the game!!! Why am i playing as this guy?!?'' :D

I knew Roxas was to start off the game, but I also read that he and Sora would trade off at times in the story, as in some parts were for Sora, some for Roxas, I was more confused why it was all Sora all the time after that tutorial segment after what I read.

So it was ment to be like Riku & Sora in Dream Drop Resistance?

No, Sora and Riku literally trade off at random moments, I just simply remember that it said they would trade off in the story at fixed times or something, could've read it wrong as I never found what I read afterwords.

Thunder magic is a lifesaver. Triple Plasma and Spark Dive were especially useful against Spellican. Remember this if you do the secret portals.

What if they made a co-op KH game? You could choose between Sora,Riku,Kairi,Roxas,Vantas,Aqua,Terra,Donald, Goofy, & if they want to find a way to make him return then Axel.

Lea is in KH3D. When both a person's Heartless and Nobody are destroyed, the original being is re-formed.
