This could be fun. Post about your current gaming addictions. Recommend stuff!
Pokemon Pearl
Hi, I'm Greg, and I'm a Pokemonaholic. I have been ever since Red and Blue hit US shores. The GBA games were disappointments, but Diamond and Pearl are utterly fantastic. They may even surpass Crystal as my all-time favorite. I'm not likely to catch them all this time, but I'll still end up putting dozens of hours into this addictive game.
God of War
Yeah, yeah, I'm behind the times. I finally picked this up when I saw it for $15. It's a blast. I love the combat, it's stylish and deep. I'll probably pick up the sequel when I've finished this one.

Right now I'm replaying Far Cry, GTA: San Andreas, and the Flatout 2 demo, which is more fun than most full games (and since I hate most racing games, that's saying ALOT)
(The above are all PC versions, just to clarify)

Team Fortress Classic.
Game's almost 10 year old, and infected people STILL wait in the spawn for medpacks while infecting their teammates...
edit:
vvvvvv Yeah ShaggE, but I think the cartoony designs are more characteristic of the mayhem and the absurd physics of TFC. It would be weird rocket-jumping in a game that looked like Battlefield 2.

Just a few days ago I started my StarCraft addiction again, and i'm loving it :D
...and I also got Zelda: TP on hold, I must really get together and finish it soon, usually I use to be so in to them I play through them in just a few sit's, but this time I just don't feel like it. :(
I'm playing Super Paper Mario, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice For All, and finally just started Okami.

Although sometimes suprisingly annoying... :D

Beyond Good and Evil was just as high-quality an adventure as LOZ, unfortunately it loses 10% off ratings because it just doesn't have the brand name. I mean, I have MUCH more fun playing a game when my character is named Link.
Well, that and it didn't have many side quests.

Apart from Sam & Max, I still play Oblivion (got Shivering Isles, and all the plug-ins except the horse armour), in which I recently started with a new character - you could say I'm addicted to that. I also do the little fitness program in Wii Sports every day, and now and then I play some Wii Play with my mother.

Every game Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw has made. The deluxe editions where possible (http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm)
Stalker
Silent Hill 1 (I love my PSX)
Silent Hill 4 (PC)
Sega Mega Drive Collection (PSP)
Final Fantasy VII/VIII/IX (AGAIN! I always get halfway through then get bored and start over)
I flick between games after playing each one for about an hour. (Excepting for the Shivah which only takes about 1/2 an hour to finish but has a commentary mode). I get bored easily :(.

Hey, yeah just remember now that you mentioned "Broken Sword 4". It's the wonderful policy of giving one name for the UK/European market (Angel of Death) and another for the North American release (Secrets of the Ark). They did it with the first BS game too (Shadow of the Templars-UK, Circle of Blood-NA).

I was trying to play Harvester (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvester_%28computer_game%29). After trying to get it started in XP, which is impossible, I installed qemu and ran windows 98 through it. There it finally ran, but by the time I got past the intro I remembered how nasty and macabre this game is, so I had to put it down before I had to run to the bathroom. I played it through like 10 years ago, though :D

Yes, sometime that happens! One day, I was craving to play a sci-fi space first-person-shooter: so recollecting Wing Commander as one of my favourites, I installed it and tried to have fun with it; but bang! what's this? why's the screen so small? why's the picture jagged everywhere? why oh why my wonderful memorable experience on the game eluded me that moment? Well, I guess I'm the one that changed... but that's because computer changed too!! And at alarming curve at that, leaving me no chance to relives my nostalgia of a classic game! Argh!! At least I have some old games that I still enjoy playing... but some just feel like killing my sweet memory by playing it again ten-fifteen-years later.
... played DarkStar One instead.

I know EXACTLY what you mean... I can't even begin to tell you how many gaming memories were ruined by time for me :( Even the most die-hard classic gamers among us can't help but be spoiled a bit by technology. Not to say I don't still play more classic games than is considered "healthy", but I'd be lying if I said the words "I thought THIS was amazing?" didn't cross my mind a couple times.

I enjoy the old classics more then most of the stuff released now adays. Modern games are so fluffed up it can be nausiating. I like graphics, but I don't need them, and I definately don't want good graphics if it means everything else is going to suck.
That isn't to say new games are all crap, but they spend so much time on textures, meshes, coding, and voice acting, they don't often have the time or resources to actually make a fun game. Legend Entertainment is a good example of proper game design and ethics, though they went out of bussiness a long time ago.
I enjoy a game like Far Cry, Doom 3, Half Life 2, blah blah, as much as any other FPS fan, but that's only one genre. What scares me is the RTS craze that started back in the mid nineties never really stopped. They still crank dozens of RTS games every year, it seems like 90% of games are either FPSs or RTSs, and then you get the occassional adventure game.
But those are often not really adventure games, or they're so low budget that the code is almost viral. At least there's Telltale, and they even have managed to get some attention. It's tough for an adventure game to get attention. I've seen a lot of people react almost violently to hearing about Sam & Max though. Generally they're upset mearly because the main actors are animals. I'm betting those people have some kind of testosterone disorder.
There are some people over at Adventure Gamers who are on a Legend games kick (TimeQuest in particular). That one sounds really interesting but finding it is difficult. I don't really have the time to be playing it (well more like I wouldn't be able to concentrate if I made some time).

I agree totally. I have actually started selling most of my newer games so I can buy older ones.

I have never understood what is so great about Far Cry. Sure, it had good graphics and a charmingly different setting (Outside! Sunny! OMG!). But I failed to see why it was so popular.

I'm more concerned about the number of MMORPGs that are being developed. It's like WoW was some kind of fungus, with the millions of new MMORPGs springing up. I believe there was/is some kind of rumour of the Dreamfall sequel being an MMORPG :( MMORPGs are boring.
Another thing I don't get is why WoW is so popular. I've attempted to get hooked on it multiple times but it always gets so BORING. Click, wait, click, wait, click, wait... Congratulations, you have killed a rat! Kill another 5632854038830 of these and maybe you'll go up a level! Then you can spend some time trying to figure out if any of the new spells open to you actually differ at all from your current roster. And maybe you can skin these rats and after making 679 pairs of trousers you can make yourself some boots! Oh no, it only had a leather fragment on it, better kill some more things so you can make a full piece of leather! You will need 20 pieces of leather to make some pants. Each piece of leather is made of 3 leather fragments.

Ah yes, Legend! I played some of their games: Timequest, Eric the Unready and Spellcasting series. I think I'm going to hunt for the other titles!
It's not that I don't like classic games, but I just can't replay them again. I still plays classics I could get my hand at. The last classic game I played was "Lost File of Sherlock Holmes: The Serrated Scalpel". If I haven't play them, sure I can stand the bad graphics or the lousy sound effects. But for replaying, it has to be really good. I guess it's also a matter of taste, like for example, I would play all Monkey Islands again; I'd also play Ultima 4,6,7,7SI but not 1,2,3,5,8,9, and StarControl not WingCommander, and Undying not Quake or Doom, and ChronoTrigger not FinalFantasy, and Conquest of the Longbow (oooh yes, I really want to play this... sadly, I had sold the game long time ago), and I would not play any AGI-typing-games of Sierra, etc., etc. :)

I have never understood what is so great about Far Cry. Sure, it had good graphics and a charmingly different setting (Outside! Sunny! OMG!). But I failed to see why it was so popular.
In one word: stealth. The stealth subgenre is becoming more and more popular, and we haven't had a good first person stealth game since Thief. There's just something primal about silently hunting down your enemies that appeals to human instinct.
Plus, it's one of few single player games where a single headshot can kill you (on higher difficulty settings), which really adds to the need for strategy and patience.

I enjoyed Far Cry because unlike most FPSes (especially most 'atmospheric / story' FPSs in the Half Life style) the bad guys presented slightly formidable foes... and they were formidable in ways other than "it takes 80 shots to kill them." The game had limited stealth, which was fun especially in the jungle / beach environment (lots of combinations of interesting natural and man made cover, lots of moments where you could really sneak up on someone and feel that it wasn't scripted for you to do so) and it had enemies who were able to call for reinforcements but also use cover and vehicles to their advantage as well. Many games allegedy have such a thing, but again, in Far Cry it felt like it was happening because of my actions beat to beat, not because I walked over a script trigger which played the "call for more dudes" cutscene. The game didn't throw new set pieces and new plot reveals at you left and right like Half Life does, but I found that the moment to moment gameplay was far more engaging than either Half Life game.

That's what made Quake 4 so different too. Not immersiveness, but the feeling that even at full health you could die at any moment. The AI knew when it needed cover, and when it had the upper hand. I was amazed to see a Strogg grunt hide until a few more grunts had walked in, then it ran out and started firing.
Far Cry didn't use that particular tactic, but it used a very similar one where a lone guard will sometimes run off and get backup if he can't see who's shooting at him.
In either scenario, the feeling of "uhohwhat'dIdoholycrapI'mscrewed.....
THEYWANTMETOTAKEDOWNACHOPPERWITHAPISTOL????" is pure gold.

Well, that and it didn't have many side quests.
It totally made up for it with the amazing plot. Seriously, that plot trumps Zelda in so many ways it's not even FUNNY.
I hope they really do make a sequel like they clearly intended to (ever seen the clip after the credits? ;) )

At the moment I'm playing Settlers of Catan on Xbox Live non-stop. They did a great job with this version. I haven't played against any friends yet (unless Shaka and Cleopatra count as friends (and they don't, the way they keep stealing from me)), but it seems like a natural. I have a sudden urge to go dig out my old copy of Pokemon Blue and see if any of my gameboys (Original, pocket, colour...) actually have any batteries. I seem to remember spending at least 3000 hours on that game (no, really. I played it multiple times through and added up the times on the game clocks!). But somehow, although I enjoyed Pokemon Silver I have failed to really enjoy a Pokemon game since. Rest assured I will buy one of the new ones though because I have enjoyed playing my DS a hell of a lot more than my GBA. Maybe the magic has returned?

For the last 3 days I've been playing Resident Evil 4 (finally, thanks to importing the PC version). The game is frustrating as hell, but never so difficult that I had to resort to walkthroughs or cheats. (yet... this game is loooong.... and then there's the Ada missions after I finish the main story... definitely plenty of content for the money)
My only beef with it is that I had to download patch after patch to get it to run, and it takes more hard drive space than it has a right to.

The UK version has one more scene... although I haven't finished the game, so I do not know all the details... wait, I just looked up the differences between the versions, and I now feel like an absolute pervert in specifically seeking out the UK version. Apparently, the US version censors all sexual related content... meaning that naked character models now wear underwear, and there is apparently an interactive love scene in the UK version.

Oh I have already used ScummVM as well... and yes, it worked very well for the older LucasArts games.
For Feeble Files, you have to convert all the video files, and considering doing one CD's worth took over 12 hours, I went "bugger it" and gave up....
Running the game under VMWare works just as well and wasn't too much hassle to set up.

This past weekend I replayed Fahrenheit. I sat down to play it Friday night at about 8:30 and played through all the way to the end. (Otherwise known as 3:00 in the morning...)
I have replayed the beginning of this game several times, but this was only the second time I played through to the end. The game takes a turn about 2/3 of the way through that I really don't like, and the story goes from being awesome to terrible. I still felt that way this time. But I had a few glasses of wine while playing so by the time I got to the bad part, it just seemed funny. :D
This is a really great game (the beginning is, anyway) and I encourage anyone who likes story driven games and who hasn't played it to do so. It's known as Indigo Prophecy in the US and is slightly censored to get an M rating rather than AO, but to be honest, the stuff that was censored (one sex scene in particular) was somewhat gratuitious/tasteless and I think Indigo Prophecy has a better presentation because of it. But Fahrenheit is a cooler title.
So... that's my current answer to "what are you playing right now?" I'm also close to the end of Mario and Luigi Partners in Time on the DS, and about halfway through King's Quest 6, which I started a couple weeks ago when my new King's Quest Collection arrived in the mail. Also Psychonauts, but as mentioned elsewhere I'm stuck in the dance party level...

I just bought Runaway 2 off of Steam, because even though I suspect it might be mediocre, I kind of enjoyed the first one, so why not? Also, I bought Geometry Wars because a) it's awesome and b) $2.50
I'm maybe a bit over half way through Hotel Dusk on the DS... and not enjoying it anymore, but trying to power through to the end.
Nothing is less exciting to me than an adventure game that only lets you do one thing at a time, despite encouraging you to do otherwise.
I was in the middle of a totally unrelated task when a character walked up to me and said something like "Remember when the bellhop delivered my package to your room by mistake? Well, I think a bookmark of mine might still be in there... can you take a look for me?" Great, sounds good, another little mini-thing I can do in between my horrible stuckness on the current task. So, I go back up to my room and click on the empty box. What does my character say? "It's an empty box." Okaaayy... So, I ignore that and go back to completing the A-level task I was in the middle of. When I finish that, what does my character say, now, when I click on the exact same box I clicked on 10 minutes earlier, now that my totally unrelated other task is done? He says "Hey now that that's done, that reminds me: didn't that guy I talked to earlier say there was a bookmark in that box? I should go look for it!" Now, suddenly, woosh, I get zoomed into an interactive 3D view where I can spin the box around and have fun tapping at it with the stylus to make the bookmark fall out from between some flaps. Why the hell couldn't I do that 10 minutes earlier? The game is full of these things. Bah.
Fortunately the art is great, and it's got a lot of atmosphere for a DS game, so that's keeping me going I guess, and I just want to get to the end so I can ... see the end... but man is it frustrating sometimes.

I got Runaway 2 a few months ago because Eriq gave me a gift certificate to Amazon for my birthday, which was awesome of him. Haven't started playing it yet. I feel like I should finish Murder on the Orient Express first, but then I play it a little and it annoys me, so I stop. I'm sad about that, because I really enjoyed the first Agatha Christie game. Maybe I'm just not in the mood.
Regarding Hotel Dusk - you haven't reached the best part yet. The best part being when you're in a time sensitive situation that's just begging for you to use the built-in notebook, but the game won't let you use the built-in notebook. Yeah, that's the best part. Um, I mean the worst part. :p
Still, it's worth finishing. Just give yourself permission to be annoyed at it, and everything will be fine...

I just finished SiN Episodes: Emergence a few minutes ago... I really don't know if I liked it or not. The physics felt a bit dumbed down from HL2, even glitchy at parts... the acting was horrendous... the weapon and enemy variety was almost non-existent...
But on the bright side, it was too short to get repetitive, the mutagen gas was a nice touch, and it had the Dopefish in it. :p

I am at chapter 5 of Phoenix Wright(first game) and man, this ep is long. I had to start start over twice; the first time I ran out of ! and the second is because I choose the wrong option, which ended the game. I am gettin addicted to the game and I am thinkin of getting the import for the 3rd game (Gyakuten Saiban 3) mainly because it will be roughly the same price when it comes out to the US (28 dollars +free shipping), it is region free, has the english option, and is comming out a month before the domestic version.

However, because of money, I may just purchase the import of the 3rd one first and then get the 2nd one

Sounds like Hotel Dusk has the same sort of problems as Trace Memory, which is what I was afraid of.
It really took me out of the game when they do that swirly transition into every puzzle. It's like "HEY! HERE'S A PUZZLLLLLE! IT USES THE DS'S UNIQUE FEEEEATURES!" How am I supposed to be immersed in the story when the puzzles are so jarring?

I didn't notice until half way through the second case that you could press start to pause, and save the game at any time. (Before that I thought you could only save at the end of chapters, eg when the Judge calls a recess) It may ruin a bit of the suspense, for some, but it means that if you're at a crucial decision, you can save right before, so that if you really screw it up, you can turn off your DS and then turn it back on again right before that happens. A crappy situation that might be deemed as cheating by some, but it didn't make the game experience any worse for me.

Thanks for the info, though I couldn't save at the time since my brother was saving a save for me for chapter 3; his save point is near where I was when I accidently turned off the system in chapter 3 and since he passed chapter 3, he didn't need the save point. So after choosing the wrong option for chapter 5, I finished chapter 3 so I can clear the save data to use with chapter 5. I passed chapter five yesterday.

Currently.. well.. I started playing the sims 2 again today.. man that's addictive. Still can't find that damned vampire count in nightlife though.. CURSE YOU COUNT! I want your fangy goodness! ok... that... came out wrong.. <_< >_>
Also, Baldur's gate. Having not played the game for years and having never finished it I decided to revisit it and slaughter more innocent Kobolds. Alas however, while my pc seems laggy with the sims but doesn't crash, it does crash with Baldur's gate.. WTH is up with that?!? Seems my pc has old game phobia, it refuses to even install icewind dale and playing any of my old horror games? hah.. surely you jest!
I did get in the mail the other day Grim Fandango (I've played it so many times but never owned my own copy.. wierd), full throttle and the Dig, so.. soon enough lucasarts adventure game nostelgia shall begin. How many can I play before my brain melts and I go completely mad? hmmm??? All I need now is fate of atlantis and then, then they are ALL MINE! mwahahahahaa.

Not finishing the Baldur's Gate series is a serious sin of computer gaming, so everyone needs to do it! :I
I KNOW! *cries* Last time I got to the actual town of Baldur's gate and my harddrive went kaboom and I lost my save game. I've never quite had the patience to play through that far again.. I wanted to go kill rabid chickens tooo!
Same thing happened with BG2, thankfully I actually finished BG2 (took me several years though... ooops) but my harddrive failed when I was almost done with the expansion! NOOOOOO! I can't be bothered restarting the expansion and I lost my character so meh.. maybe some day i'll go back.. but i'd finished that huge dungeon crawl and everything, I dun wanna do that agaaaain!
My pc just hates long games obviously. I only finished NWN about a year ago.. it went wierd on me and the NPC ai went crazy so my minion started killing every single other npc it encountered.. even non hostile ones! making it impossible for me to complete the missions I needed to. Also, the dragons pissed me off. Rogue + Dragons = NO! I much prefered SOU.. far far better game imo, NWN was too.. bitty and annoying.

Played BG1 once. Multiplayer. 2 hours. Left it alone and the sequel after that. Never been a fan of CRPGs. Love RPGs but it's just as much the social aspect I suspect. Never had the patience for RPGs on the computer since Ultima V (when I didn't understand enlish ironically enough). Still got a couple, but never made it far. Promised myself I need to complete fallout 1 and 2 at some point. Bought neverwinter nights and played through chapter 1. Bought Morrowind the day it was released and lost interest after 3 hours. Like that with most games, but action games which can be played in small chunks, preferably in a window really catch me better, easier to feel you make progress withou...oooh shiny new game *pounce*

I just started playing Hotel Dusk for DS, and it's highly enjoyable so far. It's a reminder of how immersing a first-person exploratory approach to adventure gaming can be.
It'll also remind you how hackneyed adventure game puzzle design can be if done lazily. The environment, artwork, and general atmosphere are very engrossing, and I even like the music (with the exception of a couple tracks), and for the weak points there are some awesome things in that game that I have been enjoying, but oh man there's some stuff in there that will make you want to snap your DS in half so you never have to play it again.

And I got Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door (no Super Paper Mario in Europe yet :<), Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Super Smash Bros Melee, Starfox Adventures, Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Eternal Darkness, and something else which I can't remember the name of (I got most of those games from a friend), and seeing how big a completionist I am, I'll be at them all until I finish each and every one of them.
Worryingly, the games on the Wii I've had most fun from, and have the most of, just so happen to be Gamecube games.
Not that I had a Gamecube before I got the Wii anyway, so I just see the Wii as a Gamecube which'll play Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros Brawl when they come out.

Hi.
This week I finally finished Space Quest 0: Replicated. Two years ago I found it, and played till the space station. There I needed something to hit some alien on the head. Drat. Hmm, not sure if it is possible to use the board, but I think I passed the stairs... aar, anyhow, this time I played all the way through, always fun to finish things.
Staying in the nostalgic corner, I entered the world of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. I found a xp-installer that made it more xp-friendly. Still unstable. Saving the game like after every little cutscene and point that I can get. Finished it maany years ago, and tried to redo that a couple of times, but it always crashed after a while. This time I'm already at day 5! "DJ BRING SEKEY MADOULE" is one of the things I'll never forget. It just sticks. Keep wondering if I'd make it through without knowing it. Searching in Dr Johns museum, fishing for ideas to put on the wall? Just like Police Quest 1 and "administer test". As a young kid I got the "o d" (open door) etc, but the game often stopped at the drunken driver... :
Ok, I'll stop here, first post to this forum, talkative...

Also, the Wits path its not hard at all, just different puzzles.
