American games magazine Game Informer has the scoop on a new South Park game from Obsidian (the developer behind Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II, Neverwinter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol, Fallout: New Vegas, and Dungeon Siege III). The image below was revealed along with the announcement.

The game is set for release late next year for the 360 and PS3, with the script and voices being provided by South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker (both of whom are massive gaming fans; as evidenced by the Guitar Hero, WoW, PSP and Wii episodes of South Park).

It all sounds very promising to me and should make up for the lazy cash-in South Park games from the past.

I'll be keeping my eye on this defintootly, Obsisian are full of great ideas so it's not gonna be half-hearted by any means. I wonder how much RPG you can get from South Park though...

At first I WTF'd at Kenny, but then I realized he's a big perv.

No offense to the dudes who RP as chicks.

I forgot to mention that you play a new kid in South Park, so character creation seems likely. Looks like I'll be able to play as my forum avatar in-game.

I'm expecting a plethora of gaming references in the game. South Park has always excelled in that regard...

Well, the released picture suggests that we'll be entering a fantasy world (something akin to the Imagination Land episode), so I doubt there'll be a shortage of scenarios/quests. Also, take a closer look at that image...

Man-Bear-Pig as an enemy NPC... I'm being super cereal! :D

Looks like there'll be a fight against CRAAAAAAAAAAAB PEOPLE. This pleases me.

Also, while I'm sure Obsidian will handle the license well, I am kind of let down. I considered South Park to be one of the licenses Telltale would do good with.

I'd argue South Park would work best as an adventure game, (it makes SO MUCH SENSE. The boys often split up, they have their own plotlines, and there is always something that ties it all together and brings resolution), but an RPG by Obsidian will also do nicely.
I shall keep my eye on this...

At least this way we'll actually get some gameplay and not just one long South Park episode with QTEs... Zing!

Also, being a RPG should allow for some interesting stats...

"+7lbs to Cartman's ass."

"250 gold added to Kyle's Jew purse."

"Kenny is now adept at the 'Resurrection' skill."

"Stan learns a new attack; 'Vomit-Projectile'."

Looks like there'll be a fight against CRAAAAAAAAAAAB PEOPLE.

Taste like crab, talk like people.

I had to pinch myself and check the calendar when I heard the news. It certainly does seem to be too bizarre/awesome to be true and yet here we are.:D

Yes, the previous South Park games have sucked but this one is being made by a reputable developer, in conjunction with the creators of the show. So, what's the problem?! Unless you don't care for South Park, in which case I suggest you stay out of South Park threads in the future.

I know, right? The world's just been soooo flooded with South Park games. There's been like FOUR of them in the last ten years!

I'm just saying, the last few South Park games haven't been particularly exceptional. Plus, the show seems to have been on sort of a cynical decline, so I'm not going to support this idea unless I can KNOW that it's going to be a game that I can play without it getting repetitive or frustrating. An RPG does NOT fit this description for me.

The "last few" South Park games, with the exception of one XBox Live Arcade tower defense game that came out almost three years ago, came out in 1998-2000. Really don't see what there is to complain about here. They were N64 games for crying out loud.

That said, Obsidian made Fallout New Vegas, which was awesome and I felt even better than Fallout 3 and one of my favorite RPGs this "generation." The game is being written by Matt and Trey. It's parodying one of my favorite genres. I'm psyched.

It sounds... really interesting. I won't commit until I see screenshots, but from what we know so far, that seems pretty awesome.

Seeing as its a South Park game I demand photo realistic graphics! They should use the Crysis 2 engine and push that baby to the absolute limit! :D

I assume they'll be employing similar technology to this...

Also, that unknown class? Jew.

This may well be one of the few games I buy brand new. It sounds awesome.

I really want to play this game now. Not a huge Southpark fan, but the idea of a game that parodies other games really appeals to me.
