I'd imagine it's that they don't think Americans would watch a movie with 'Scientists' in the title. Imagine the controversy when they get to '...with Communists'.

Nah, that's not the reason they changed the title, cause it's called that in Australia too. I saw the trailer in cinemas and it said "Band of Misfits"

I saw the US Trailer and was kind of confused about what the film was supposed to be about. At first i thought it would just be a straightforward parody of POTC or something similar, but the UK trailer is a lot more informative. As such, I'm just as confused by the name change as the rest of you, despite being an American myself.
