View Full Version : Steam Walking Dead Out, TELLTALE version OUT NOW!

As soon as it comes out for Telltale's site, we'll let you know. It's out on Steam if you ordered it there.
Thank you.
EDIT: Telltale had a last minute internal server issue.
For those of you who can't wait to play TWD now, check your email. They have sent a STEAM key and you can download it from steam if you purchased it through Telltale's site. They should fix the server issue soon. If you still don't have your key, click here for instructions (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29323).
REMEMBER: I am a forum moderator, not staff. My job is to stop fights and get rid of spambots. I know just as much about the ETA on this as you; please don't email me about customer service issues. Thanks.

Personally, I would've thought that on TellTales own site they would have it up before others. Either way, I will be playing it today, just would've thought they gave people who ordered it through their site an advantage over Steam

Actually it's the company that skims 30% off the top serving people. Gotta have some way of dissuading people from buy directly from the developer after all, right?

I hate to say it, but I don't think I'll be ordering through TT anymore. At the very least I would appreciate a time-frame or a countdown timer like Steam does. What's the point of pre-ordering when it's already 1:20pm where I'm at and I still can't access the game?

wow, only reason i got it off the site was because I thought they will release it first.. fucking fail.... should have gotten it on steam...

I second this. If I had known we'd be waiting now I would never have ordered direct.
What positive benefit could this of possibly had for TT?

No, probably not the first time. But I think it's more frequent that TTG releases first. The present situation seems a bit unknown to me, while I've witnessed far more release days when people from the Steam forums suddenly popped in here and started crying. ;)
But what the heck, it's an episodic series. It's 1 : 0 for Steam vs. Telltale, but it's best of five. :D

Yeah, I know, we haven't been waiting hours, but the time isn't the point. 1 minute or 3 days, TT's own game should release way earlier than anywhere else. It's weird to me that TT's games are never available at midnight either, but that's another discussion.
Plus, just cause it's only been a short amount of time now, who knows how long it'll take. They don't even give us a time-frame or anything. For those of us that pre-ordered it pretty early, it sucks just to have no communication on the matter at all.

kudos for the honest opinion on that at least. i am only annoyed because i got up early to do a refresher course before i could play.. i expected the game a bit ago but whatever. already spent the money.
Our build of the game is coming VERY SOON. I know the short delay sucks, but it's a slightly different build and it needs to be fully uploaded to our CDN before you can download it. We definitely appreciate your patience.

Pretty lame. I only pre-ordered through TT because it wasn't available on Steam at the time. Figured getting an entry into the contest was worth giving TT a try. Then, it releases on Steam, and they get entry to the contest as well, and even get first access.
Wish I had waited just a couple more days. I'd be much happier had I purchased through Steam.

I should have preordered. It's already here.
Steam told of it's release. But no-one wanted to believe, believe it would on Steam first, and when the truth finally dawned, it dawned in STEAM.
But, there is one they fear, in their tongue they are Telltale-ites... TELLTALE FORUMS.
(This just means I forgot to preorder and now I'm suffering for it)
Whoops.

People are being ruthless. I understand the frustration, but TT is probably under a lot of stress just trying to get the game on their website and the bashing isn't helping. True, I'm disappointed I could be playing right now but getting mad isn't gonna help and I guarantee you won't even care that you had to wait once it comes out. Either way, I'm stoked and can't wait!

I believe it should be possible as long as you don't download and activate the version from here. Also it must be noted that it would probably take a few days for the refund to get processed and you get your money back as it's not an automated thing. You'd either have to contact a TTG employee on here or send them an e-mail to get the ball rolling.

There was a Steam code for the hats and so, but when the game didn't appeared on TTG site and was available on steam, the code also unlocked the game on our steam accounts.
Can't remember it exactly, but I think it was something like that.

The Steam code was so that people got a Steam version as well as the TTG version because late on they realised that they wouldn't be able to get their version linked up with Steam so that when you unlock one of the TF2 items in the game it would be unlocked in TF2 as well. That is why they gave Steam copies to everyone who bought the TTG version, not because of release times.

The game will be released during the times they said it would be they posted a few messages about it being during normal working hours PST. Now steam might have got it first and they might have had a counter that said 1 hour, but it will be out soon. Go for a walk around the block or take a shower, they are working, just wait.

There are still possible future advantages for being a Telltale customer. For instance, I would imagine some sort of disc release for the PC/Mac version will happen but it could take one of a few forms based on previous releases. One possibility is a simple collector's disc which should (if it happens) be available for free only for Telltale customers. Another possibility is a deluxe edition which would have a game disc as well as other assorted & related goodies which would supposedly be available at a discount to existing Telltale customers.
Now this is all guess work based on previous releases as they've not confirmed what they are doing for this once all the episodes are released but I don't think it's too much to hope for.

When you set a release date, that date should be recognized. The game should have been ready to go. This won't put telltale in higher gaming recognition. I sorta hope it slaps them down. This is what happens when you try to be different. You're getting close to fail whale status.

Just for those who are unaware of basic laws here:
Although piracy may seem like a non-offense due to the intangibility of the items in mention, it is still considered stealing. In the case of the comment which was removed if anybody saw it; just because you paid 4 weeks ago for a single copy does not entitle you to download a secondary, illegal source.
To put it into perspective imagine this: You are at a record store (because you somehow found one) and you purchase an album. Now that purchase does not entitle you to take a second of the same album and walk out of the store without paying.
Thus pirating is illegal regardless of what you paid for.

Can we get a bit in the way of a serious explanation as to why the game wasn't ready to deploy yesterday? It should have been done on the 23rd if you wanted to release it on the 24th. This really is unacceptable and will significantly harm your profit. There's already quite a few people discussing refunds. I expected my copy to be out this morning when I woke up(5 AM CST). Video game releases should be done at midnight; all major developers do it this way.
When people come to expect something and change happens, it will result in a negative reaction.

i've been playing ttg games for years now so i know the quality of what we're about to get into. they are one of the few companys keeping the adventure game genre alive. i grew up playing primarily only adventure games so it's nice to see that a comic that i love is making the transition into my favorite gaming genre. waiting or not, i'm excited. althought i wish i was playing already, getting angry isn't going to start the game any sooner. if anything, i'd just be irritated when i do finally get to play it. time to remain positive and patient and let the anticipation well up until it explodes all over the place in a hot and sticky climax of... err... i lost my train of thought...

Actually in the USA as well. Anything you own usership rights to, you have a right to personal copies as long as you aren't giving them out or selling them.
The reason torrents are illegal is if you are a "good seeder" and have 1:1 ratio you have technically distributed a "WHOLE COPY" of said material, thus causing it to be illegal.
If you just leech off of it, upload a minute amount of data, you are technically not breaking the law.
There's a lot more to read about, but look into it. All kinds of technicalities and whatnot.
I'm not advocating piracy whatsoever, just saying everyone who purchases any media content has a right to personal copies so their original is not in danger. I always copied casettes, CDs, and even DVDs so I wouldn't scratch or ruin the originals. Cuz then I wouldn't be able to use my purchased content. Do the record companies send you a new copy when yours is scratched and doesn't work anymore?????
I think not.

Damn, I am going to be late to work now. Damn you TTG for making me late for work by exasperating my TWD addiction.
Just quit your job. Better than missing the chance to play this game. I might buy two copies of it if the game takes too much longer to release.

I knew one comic book who tried to make it as an actor, moved to LA and everything, said he was going to make it big, make it big on his own, last i heard he had fallen in with bad people, and was hiring himself as a pamphlet just to score some ink.
So sad... it's a slippery slope - starting on a low print-run soft cover and before you know it they're into hardcover compendiums.

OMG! Guys! Get a grip! You will have the game in the next 24hs, and happily playing away! TTG can't help it if Steam puts the game out first. Is it really that life-threatening to NOT play this game for a few more hours? :) Is it that annoying that others start to play before you? Really?! Relax! ;)
I have a fever, and the cure is this video game!
The fever will only increase over time. I will lose my appetite and my bones will ache. If this game isn't released before 5 CST, I will die. On the positive side, I will rise again as a zombie and won't need the game because the premise is now reality!

Be happy it isn't released on Telltales site yet. Look at the lower threads there are about 8 threads dedicated to steam problems with the walking dead so don't ask for a refund just so you can buy the faulty test copy that steam received this morning. Telltale customers are most likely getting a prepatched copy

It's a bit disappointing, to say the least, that a customer who orders directly from the company behind a game to support it gets "penalized" for doing so.
You would expect that the game would be made available at the same time (or before) other retail channels, but the truth is the game is out on Steam for a few hours by now, and still no sign of the game.
It wouldn't bother me much, except I was looking forward to play the game a bit tonight, since tomorrow is a national holiday, but it's already night here in Europe, and as the hours pass it seems I won't be able to do so.
Hopefully this won't happen in the future.

true. i would be so much angrier if i got a copy that i couldn't play. i'd rather not have it at all if that was the case. think how you'd feel if you bought something right before a store closed only to find out that it was missing a vital component thus rendering it usless until the store reopened the following day. i, for one, would rather just sit on my hands and wait.

Yeah, no kidding. I've been supporting Telltale since Bone, and deliberately chose to pre-order directly from TTG because that's what I've always done except for console versions. Because I wasn't sure about this game, I waited. But I pre-ordered today, only to find out afterwards that if I'd got it from Steam I could already be playing. None too pleased.

I've noticed that the only people who are complaining are new users who made accounts solely to complain. People who HAVE bought a Telltale Game before know that this sort of thing happens all the time. So, if we buy our games from TT regularly, we'll have low expectations like you? No thanks.
The issue is, a downloadable version of the game is already released and beaten by gamers on Steam, yet those who supported this company directly (my first telltale game ever), are still waiting, with no clear expectations.
I'm not angry about it, but I am a bit surprised by the development, and, as I do buy 95% of my games through Steam, yes, I am still regretting not ordering from Steam. I'm not alone in that either.

If I'd known it was coming out on April 24th around, say, February 24th I might have tried to rearrange my schedule. :) I'll be happy if it's available by Thursday night when I will have a couple of contiguous free hours to play it.

So basically what you're saying is, you'd rather have bought your game from steam so you could have been one of those percentages of people to have beaten it within an hour time frame? Sounds like a waste of a good 20 bucks to me.. I'd rather wait, have the problems reviewed and fixed, then take my time enjoying the game.. Back to repetitive L4D2 for you.. When a company says on it's website the night before the game comes out that it'll come out the next day, so preorder now... then I expect they will keep their word. It doesn't make me scum to hold people accountable for what they say. If the game is out on steam already, then this is a huge error on TT's part. To ignore that makes you ignorant. Right? It was TERRIBLE and I may just love Back to the Future more than I do The Walking Dead.
My point is, so you may have to wait a few hours to play it, god knows I'd love the distraction right now cause it's been a BAAAAAAD day, but would you rather wait a few hours like patient little meatbags or have no studio who was willing to take the time and energy to even attempt making a game based off of a comic that is as WONDERFUL as TWD
Y'all is just impatient children. Also how about (assuming that the most of you just watch the show) you get off your asses and read the damn comics, that's where the games based and it's an AMAZING read I'm sure 96 issues can occupy your time till it comes out.

I'm just saying, this isn't the first time one of their games has been indefinitely delayed to the end of the day, and it won't be the last.
And heck, it is my understanding that it was MUCH worse back in the Gametap days. Sam and Max would be EXCLUSIVELY available to Gametap subscribers for at least a day before TTG put out their version. IIRC, the first season had a TWO WEEK exclusivity period.
