I just completed the first episode and i must say.. WAW this game is just incredible. It is so intense. Such a cool, interesting story and so much fun. I just love that you finaly get way more freedom now with this game than older Telltale ones. I have aswell been reading the forums with people having alot of issues with the game. I haven't had any problems at all. Everything went incredibly well so i suggest to clean ur pc up or get a serious one really. Great First Episode Telltale i'm proud too say this is ur best game yet that i have ever played from u guys! You did lots of efford and it shows off! Cannot wait for second episode looks very promising as what i have seen at the end of the first episode! I seriously did not know this game would be so awesome and polished!

Yeah that was an excellent first episode. Pretty much everything was spot on, atmosphere, dialogue, characterization and horror, felt right at home with the Walking Dead universe.
Favourite moments were the little touching bits with certain characters. The only issue I had was with some iffy audio quality for the dialogue, so hopefully that gets patched in time for my second run through.
Great job Telltale.

That is the normal TTG-model. You buy the whole season and get the episodes on a monthly basis.

They are certainly still working on episode 2. They will tell you when it comes out as soon as they know the date.
Trust them. They have made this many times.

I had no problems at all. Maybe you should keep your posts in those other threads and keep the developers informed of your issues and specs.
I loved it. Makes me want to go back through and replay it again to find out what would of happened if I made different choices.

Yes because thread titles are simply the best judge of quality.
Nothing to do with the fact that people with problems are more likely to post than people who haven't had any.

No Crashes for me. Great audio for me. No controller problems for me... you gotta connect your controller when your ingame at startupscreen else it won't recognize. This game is a near perfection for me!

This is sad, I don't want to wait a few month to play this game. I won't even fell like finishing it by then.
Imo they should have completed it and releashed as a whole.
The game is very good but this method don't make me want to buy games from them.

How's the replay value? For ones who have finished EP1 - do you see yourself replaying choosing different dialog?

In short; Yes. Absolutely. There's some clearly obvious choices you have to make that i think will gradually change the future your lee everett experiences, and how the survivors react to you... hell even clementine.

Just played and beat the first episode, and I loved it, loved it, loved it. I say that not being a huge fan of adventure games, and not really getting into the Back to the Future one. I loved The Walking Dead, though. Absolutely loved it.
I'm ready for the second episode, now, so please release it right now. :D I'm ready to give you my money, dammit!

Haha, patience :) the comic series was just as bad waiting to feed the addiction, as is the TV-Series, but if the next episodes are like this one, it will be worth the wait - it's only a small games company too after all but often, the smaller the better :)

I just finished the first episode on Steam and I have to say, Bravo TT! This is by far my favorite series (so far) of yours that I've played. I played through most of Monkey Island, a lot of Sam and Max and all of Back to the Future but I feel like The Walking Dead really is a new evolution for you guys and a good direction to go in.
My favorite thing has to be the conversations, I actually do want to hear what everyone has to say! I also like that you streamlined the item usage. I don't have to search for stuff in a box anymore, it just shows up under clickable events. Nicely played!
My only complaint is probably the same one everyone else had. When playing on Steam, I had a huge halted slow down at the first scene but as soon as I could I just turned my shadows down and the rest of the episode was fine. For some reason I always have a problem with shadows being set to high with my ATI card.
Again, great work and can't wait for the next episode! ;)

I agree, this was a fantastic episode, some of the best stuff that Telltale has done. Moving and intense. My heart was in my throat during the scene with...well, with the zombie who has the keys in his pocket, for those who haven't finished it yet. Can't wait for the next one.
And I played it on the PS3 and didn't have a single glitch, except that weird freezing screen after the episode is over.

Its about Midnight Est time and I have to hit the sack but I got to play a bit of the game and wanted to talk about my experience.
First thing is I have an i7 2600K 4.1 Ghz 16GB Ram and a GTX 570. I maxed out the settings on my PC. I downloaded this from steam with the code provided and I had no technical issues. The Audio has popped maybe twice but other than that I have had no audio problems at all. Nothing like Jurassic Park. I have also been able to use my Logitech controller to play this so far with no problems for those concerned about controller compatibility.
Now on to the game. First of all I like this animation. Its a mix between cell shading and comic book style. Telltale has done a great job of bringing the pages of a comic book to life in a way I've never seen before. It really is easy on the eyes. Cinematic games have been tried several times but Telltale might have hit that perfect combination for this type game.
The sound is good but the music does overshoot the voices sometimes. Not nearly enough to complain much though. I've really liked the score so far and it really flows well with the on screen action.
Playing the game is also a fun. I've never seen this system implemented in a game before quite like this. I heard someone complain on IGN the other day about this being all QTE's. They have no idea how misinformed they were. The only QTE I have seen so far is when you are in a struggle with a walker. The QTE then feels almost natural as you are in the struggle pressing the buttons to try and escape a Walkers grasp. The way your character moves and the camera pans with it also works well. I don't really have any complaints with the control scheme. I haven't tried the keyboard setup yet so I'm not sure how that one works.
The Story has been superb so far and written very well. When a scene gets intense it is just like watching the show or reading the comic. You literally sit on the edge of your seat. So far I feel this game has done justice to the comics. The internal conflicts and emotions of the humans trapped in this hell is very evident and it works as well as the comics and show. I really didn't want to stop playing but I knew I had to pull myself away from the game. First time that has happened for me in a long time. I wanted to stop in and write this real quick as to ease the minds of those that are upset with the situation of not being able to download this directly from telltale. This is going to be a fun game to watch unfold.

Usually I never post on forums, unless I have a very strong emotional reaction to a game and I want the developers to know.
EVERYTHING in The Walking Dead was top notch. The voice acting, the gorgeous cel shaded art, the decisions, the setting, the atmosphere...you took me THERE, I played with my heart through the episode's duration.
Thank you ever so much for this FANTASTIC work of art!

Yeah, I second this. The audio itself had some tears and some clips seemed to be a lower volume than others, but overall extremely good game.
Minus the zombie pillow smothering. You guys know that covering a car window with a pillow and elbowing it will dull the sound right? More so than using a pillow as a gun silencer?
Borracho
04/24/2012, 09:20 pm
You use the pillow to silence the gun, as has been documented in countless movies. It might even sort of work in real life :)
The grown woman having no clue about how to use a radio however -and a radio reporter at that- was a bit funny and out of place, but in the midst of the rest of that excellence, I'm willing to put it down to zombie shock.
The game was AMAZING. Only "issues" was some of the lip synching that was a bit off and tears in the sound during the later half, but again these are but minor quibbles on an awesome, awesome game that every adventure fan should check out.

Another thing- I loved the QTE's. They were never too hard and they always conveyed a fantastic sense of urgency. Made you really feel like you were there and there were lives on the line. I love adrenaline filled gameplay with an actual story to match!

Agreed, great start to what will no doubt be a great season! As a fan of the comics I really feel Telltale nailed the atmosphere and the dialogue was perfect. Second the good mix of action and adventure, it really made the experience feel risky without being overly harsh.

I found the textures of low quality, they are low rez and there are seams especially on the characters hair.
The voice audio seemed to be either a bit low quallity or it might be a incompatibillity with my headset.
As for the movie itself i found it pretty good and entertaining, much better then Jurassic park, can't wait for the other episodes.

Loved every minute of this first episode. They're hitting us with a few extremely well done moral dilemma already, and the hard choices were tough. I get the feeling they're going to get harder.
Just please don't make me chose between saving Clem or a whole bunch of people. Just don't.

I also loved it. The atmosphere was amazing, and I felt emotionally attached to several of the characters... especially Clem! Cutest kid in all of video game history :D By the end, I felt a real bond with Kenny's family as well, and hated Mean Dad(cannot remember his name).
The moral choices were rough, and the conversation timer and QTEs added a sense of tension that you almost never feel in an adventure game.
My only issues were:
-weird skipping/pausing when fleeing the zombies in the woods(apparently an ATI-specific issue that can be solved by turning down/off shadows).
-sluggish mouse cursor using high resolution(despite my system being quite decent)
-a few audio oddities, especially near the end of the episode
-the game froze and had to be restarted when I was dealing with the infected woman in the motel
I'll definitely be re-playing the game twice(once more to see the outcomes of other choices, and then again as a "final" go through using the choices that suit "my" Lee.

I got mine off Steam. Running on an iMac, Lion.
Praise:
- Love the cel-shading art and hand-drawn comic book style you guys went with!
- I'm sucked into that Walking Dead world.
- The music, ambiance and tone was 100%. (Congrats Telltale!)
- Initially it felt "short", but when you put the $5 into perspective, it's like an interactive comic issue monthly. Then it magically transforms into pretty darn good value! (i'm not sure how TV fans or 1st time Telltale customers or L4D2 players would feel about this.... :D )
- I'm replaying it on the 2nd slot now, nasty style.

Sir,
I just wanted to doff my hat to you and raise a glass to your continued success.
I'm playing The Walking Dead, and without doubt, Clementine is one of the most sincere and real depictions of not only a child, but a video game companion, in a video game, ever.
[spoiler follows?]
When I saw in the trailer when Lee tells Clementine that her parents might be gone for a while and she replies 'oh', it was so beautifully understated and genuine - and the voice acting so classy - that I signed on the dotted line and bought the season right there.
Kudos and respect to the writing, sir. Much luck for the rest of the season.
Rasher
04/25/2012, 05:10 am
The voice actors all did a wonderful jobs, but Clementine really stood out. I didn't have the heart to tell her that her parents may not be coming back. I lied and said that they would find us. The only lie Lee ever told her.

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN THE EPISODE YET.
First of all, before I say anything else, I want to give a HUGE thank you to the Telltale Team for tirelessly working overtime to fix the issues surrounding the game's release, and for giving a free Steam key when all else failed. I may have been really critical of Telltale lately, but there isn't a single other game company out there that cares more about its fans, so thank you. Now go get some sleep. :p
Anyway, after BttF and JP being such letdowns, I wasn't going into this game particularly optimistic. Maybe it's just that my expectations were so low, but overall I was pleased.
For starters, the writing was great, although you can say that about every Telltale game (even the bad ones!). Telltale's always been really good when it comes to getting an emotional reaction out of the player, whether it's laughing your ass off at Sam and Max or feeling bad for a young Emmett Brown, so it was pretty interesting seeing what they'd come up with in an M-Rated environment. Stuff like having to repeatedly swing an axe into your brother is...creative, to say the least. There aren't a lot of games that force you to perform acts of violence but make you feel uncomfortable about it (I guess GTA4 could count, maybe), so props to Telltale for venturing into mostly unexplored territory. I also found myself liking all the characters too (except Lilly's dad. Fuck that guy  ).
The game's nice, graphically. Telltale found a decent middle-ground between cartoony and realistic that mostly avoids the issues with both styles. The sets were incredible as well, I should add. I don't think Telltale's ever put this much detail in their backgrounds before. And Jared Emerson-Johnson's music is great as always.
Now onto the real meat of the matter, the gameplay. Like Jurassic Park, this is an interactive movie. Unlike Jurassic Park, this is an interactive movie done right. While you're still sort of moving on rails through the path the game sets out for you, they give just enough freedom along the way to keep the player engaged. Also, that whole motel scene was just incredible. Probably the best Telltale moment since the fight with Charlie Ho-Tep.
I'd also like to discuss the non-linearity this game loved to use as a selling point. Now, this is obviously a nice idea since it allows the player some freedom. One of my gripes with JP (and to a lesser extent BttF) was scrapping the Sam and Max-style dialogue trees and instead having these long...dialogue sequences, where you're forced to pick something to say and you can't backtrack. This was especially irritating because it usually didn't even matter what you picked, and the game would move forward regardless. (Hell, sometimes they'd even say the exact same line, no matter what option you picked.) In adventure games, progress should happen by solving puzzles, and a "puzzle" that solves itself no matter what is...well, it's just a crappy puzzle. Anyway, The Walking Dead does a huge improvement on these "dialogue sequences" by having what you say matter...and giving you a limited time to answer. Suddenly, these once-boring scenes can get pretty tense.
At the same time, though, I get the feeling in the long run this game might not be quite as non-linear as Telltale claims. It's kind of hard to judge this when there's only one episode so far, but I'd like to point out the incident on Hershel's farm. I chose to save Shawn, yet despite my choice Shawn died and Duck lived. It seems pretty clear that, no matter what you pick, you're going to follow the same basic story with a few minor differences. I was sort of expecting there'd be an opportunity for some huge deviations, to the point that Episode 5 would be a completely different game for everyone who played it. But to be fair, that kind of game would be difficult for even a big-budget developer to do, much less a smaller one like Telltale, so I won't complain too much.
Is there any other negative stuff I should bring up? ...Well, I miss point-and-click adventure games. I guess I shouldn't hold it against The Walking Dead for being something completely different, though. "It's not an adventure game!" was a valid complaint with BttF because it tried to be one but failed, and it was a valid complaint with Jurassic Park because the new direction that game took was just plain abysmal, but with The Walking Dead...yeah, I guess I can't fault it too much. If I raise a big stink about how it's not an adventure game, I guess I'd be as bad as the 13-year-old kids whining about how it's not an FPS. Still, I do hope Telltale gives us something more...traditional soon. I guess there's always King's Quest.
Oh, and the Steam achievements are really uncreative. They're all progress-related. Come on, how about something you need to go a little out of your way for? I guess the achievement whores out there will like it, though.
Anyway, so far I'm liking this a lot. Easily the best game Telltale's done since The Devil's Playhouse. Eagerly looking forward to the other episodes. :)
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to deal with something far scarier than a zombie outbreak...finals week.

The most impressive feature I have noticed so far is the "On the Next Episode of . . . " continuity of your choices so far having a direct impact on future events. I played through twice as to discern for sure if this was true of just coincidence.

We actually had to come up with all our achievements for the entire season due to the way consoles are handling our episodic format. So I'm afraid it will only get even less creative in the future. :(

That sucks to hear. :( Still, I guess it's only achievements.
To go off on a little tangent, I really liked the in-game "awesomeness" achievements in SBCG4AP. Encouraging exploration is always a good thing. It'd be great to see something like that again.

Overall I think the episode was pretty good however there are a few points I'd like to raise. While I didn't find them too distracting it did make the difference between being polished and being simply well done.
a) Audio Compression - I noticed a fair amount of clipping and hissing as mentioned in another thread, mostly likely due to over-compression to reduce file size but please if possible consider a slightly less aggressive amount of compression. I also noticed slight level differences between dialogue snippets.
b) Blocky Shadows - Mostly during cinematics and likely due to me playing at a higher resolution, a pity really. Also in many cutscenes none of the zombies were casting shadows which I found broke the immersion.
c) Slow movement speed - Not a biggie I guess but a slightly faster movement speed would be really nice.
d) Over-Exaggerated Facial Animations - I understand the sense of emotion you're trying to convey but in certain instances I felt that Lee's "expressive" or "high emotion" facial animations were a little too exaggerated especially when compared to Clementine who was handled superbly (can I haz her?). Perhaps consider conveying stronger emotion through your voice actors, Lee's tone change way too little for such extreme circumstances.
Other than that congratulations on such great work despite the launch issues. Looking forward to the next episodes!

Loved Episode 1, my only complaint is that when you have a limited time to make a decision, they don't even give you enough time to read all of the options. I understand that they want you to feel the anxiety of making a snap judgement, but if the entire idea of this game is to make a choice, it's executed poorly by not giving you a chance to even read all of the choices.

I had a rougher time my first play through reading all the possible choices too, but the second time through I did not. I don't know why that was, but it was. I have noticed the speed of the timer is not the same for all choices. It depends upon the situation. Herschel, for example, will not wait very long for a reply when he asks something. He is just that kind of person. Other choices must be made fast or people die. Heroes learn not to hesitate long :D
I just finished 1st episode and I'm really surprised how good it is. I love TWD comic books (and just "like" TV series) so I had some doubts about how will you present story in that universe, but you made it perfectly. Tough choices, deep personalities, dramas - now I'll have not only wait every month for comic book, but for another episode as well. Even more, with results of choices in-game, when whole season will be done it will be worth to play it multiple times just to see totally different consequences - which is great thing!
There's a little mess with release day (and the decision to give out Steam keys was really wise) but it was worth to wait - game is amazing.
Thnx and keep up good work!

I know and completely understand the thought behind that. The problem is that not everyone reads at the same speed.

i think the mess was releasing a game thats not finished, and wont be for several months.. all while charging for a complete package up front.
it was fun, but theres very little replay value.
Just thought i'd share my thoughts and feelings after playing through TWD ep.1 from start to finish, Just encase anyone was interested. Be warned, its 2:30 am and my grammer and spelling isn't the best when i'm tired.
First of all let me get this out the way; I understand there can be many a complication when releasing a game but this release really did take the cake. From a consumers point of view, I really have felt let down the last two days by telltale. Now enough has been said about the lack of preperation Telltale performed for the release of TWD all over the forum, so I won't got into it any further other then by saying this; fail to prepare then prepare to fail.
Now onto the game review...
Although very glitchy (mainly sound and bad texturing) and bad consistency (I.E Hershacal refering to the girl as Lee's daughter even though you told him already that she isn't) in places, TWD is a very deep in-grossing story that grabs you from the first scene.
Telltale do a very good of making Lee YOUR charecter. This is a story that although already has it's path laid out ahead of you, you make the minute personal decisions that effect major outcomes to yourself and other charecters around you. This for me was on par with some of the great games like the mass effect series.
Now i'm guessing 99.9999% of people playing this, watch or read the walking dead currently so let me put you out your misery if your wondering if they captured the universe feel.. they did and they have done it well (although i have a few gripes about the cameo charecters but thats just personal taste)
This game follows the comic version of events, it's timeline and slower pacing too. I think TT really did capture the desperate grimey feel of the comic but in thier own style very well. It's nothing fancy but then again niether is the art work in the comics, its there to serve a purpose though and it does it wth satisfying results.
In short.. If you love TWD, story and moral compass on the spot decision making plus can look past some bad technical hiccups, then this is the game for you.
Well done TT but please make the next episode releases go alot smoother. Cheers.

Without spoiling anything I just want to write a mini-review for those still on the fence about whether or not to get this. In short: buy it. It's a better adaptation of The Walking Dead comic book than the TV series.
The story is great (man with a mysterious past trying to find redemption in protecting a little girl), the characters are well developed and interesting. The music fits the atmosphere well, really heightens the tense moments. And the art style is great, very stylized. In terms of choices & consequences, you do make a few during the game which are commented on by other characters, but I think we're not meant to see the consequences until much later on. My only niggle right now are the audio problems, it is noticeably low quality, which is a shame.
At the end of chapter one there's a 'Next time on The Walking Dead' segment, which I skipped (I don't want to be spoiled!). Hopefully that won't impact on me importing my save into the next chapter. I just wish I had it to play now.

I wholeheartedly agree, TellTale's all-round best production so far. None of my friends / housemates had really played any TTG series before. I showed them the trailers for this a month or two ago and that got them all pretty excited - now they've played the first episode I can say for certain there are some new TTG fans around here :)

Just a few days ago I didn't even know this game ever existed but after being recommended to play/review I thought I might as well give it a try as the price is very cheap for one episode. I started this game with low expectations and at the end of the game all I could say is "BRING ON EPISODE 2" in this review I will tell you why it is that good.

I just finished my first playthrough and it is everything I could have wanted from a walking dead game. I am now intrigued by the other choices and how these choices will change things in future episodes. Now all I want to do is go back and start a 2nd playthrough.
It was a bit short, but it is a good 10-15 hours if you add all 5 episodes together. Then there is the huge replaybility, so this is great value for money.
I loved the graphic style and how it is similar to the comics.
The voice acting was great. Lee was very convincing and whilst playing episode 1, I found it hard to believe that he was guilty of the crime he was accused of. He just seemed like a genuine guy and he seemed to care a lot (well my Lee anyway). By the end of the episode I grew to like Lee as a protagonist. I thought he was the perfect choice.
Oh and I loved the soundtrack, as I thought it really set the mood for the game.
I also loved the fact that when I finished the episode, it let me know which percentage of users chose which choice. That was a nice touch
The only negative thing I have to say is that for some reason when I minimised the game and went back to it, there was quite a lot of stuttering. I had to exit the game and relaunch it to resolve it.
Overall great job telltale. Thanks for delving into the walkiing dead universe. It's definately one of my favourites and I've played them all.
Now I can't wait to play the next episode, but it is going to be tough to wait a month to play it.

Same here tbh, in fact I never ever registered to a game forum before unless I had a prob with a game I couldn't fix myself. But in this case I just had to sign up and say thanks for an absolutely great experience. I have to admit TWD pretty much is my first game by TT (well sure tried the one or other S&M season but I didn't enjoy those as much as the original) and that first episode just left me behind speechless. I always used to love games with descisions have to be made within seconds, always loved those kind of interactive games/movies tho there aren't too many out there for PC.
I didn't even expect too much of TWD to be honest, not even a huge fan of the series nor the comic but when I stumbled into some trailers back a few weeks I was pretty much excited. Of course I was having a closer look on TT and according to many reviews of JP I was really doubting to get this game but I couldn't resist and hell thank god I couldn't.
I really really enjoyed the first episode, I so love the atmosphere being built up, I just adore the characters growing more and more into (or not) ;) The relationship between Lee and Clem is just fascinating, I somehow even got emotional when I realized her parents wouldn't come back at all (probly). Not to mention the desperation out there you can like breathe in yourself...wow.
Well guess I am kinda running off topic here...uh not really but anyways, just wanted to thank TT for such a great experience, keep the good work up, I am really really looking forward to such high quality episodes to follow in terms of atmosphere, conversations etc....
Also I think you guys did a brilliant job mixing between the characters relationships and right placed/paced violence showing the brutalilty of a desperated mind, fighting for his life at any costs....woah *goosebump*
so long, chapeau devs, chapeau!

...It's called EPISODIC GAMING. Honestly people, at least do SOME research on what you're preordering. This is meant to mimic the comics in the sense that you are playing through a comic and waiting for the next episode coming giving you that, "what's going to happen next?" mentality. However the plot twist here is that YOU'RE creating the story by the choices you make, which only makes it that more engaging.
it was fun, but theres very little replay value.
Maybe not right now, but don't you want to go back when it's all over and see what making different choices might do to your game?

Hm, thinking bout how I could help you without spoiling anything (too much) for you. Could you please tell us exactly what you did so far? As you already threw the brick into the glass of the TV-store I assume you already managed to open the iron gate in front of the drugstore hm?

i cant figure out what to do next!! i am super stuck... can anyone help? im in the pharmacy, i have already bandaged clementines finger, fed everyone, threw the brick through the window of the tv store...what the heck do i do next!!!!
**Spoiler**
If you've busted out the window in the TV store, have you gotten the TV remote from the drawer in the back office and turned on the TV's in there?, the zombies should be distracted, you need to run across the street to that dude trapped under the streetlight and take his keys, then use those to get into the pharmacy. You're actually only about 5 minutes from the end of the episode...the guy is laying outside right next to the "hastily built fortification" there. You'll have one more big decision in terms of whether to save one person or another, and then it's pretty much episode over...
***END SPOILER***
Hope that helps..

Is it not finished? From the interviews and such I've seen, even if the actual coding isn't quite done yet, they already know what the storyline is...they mentioned how they had huge multi-page diagrams to keep track of how decisions in game 1 will affect things in later games and such. I don't know if they've actually coded the game yet, but I'm pretty certain they know exactly where things are going.
the fact that I've finished it a couple times now and gotten very different "next time on The Walking dead" previews implies there's a lot more variation than you're allowing for, there's entire characters that could simply not be in episode two depending on how you choose to run episode one and who you choose to save or not save at given times. There's also different scenes depending on whether you side with one group over another...don't want to go into much more detail or I'd be spoiling for people who haven't played yet, but I'd wait until all the episodes are released before I start commenting on replay value. *shrug*

Yup, that's exactly it, the other episodes aren't done yet (although parts of them will be in various stages of completeness). For people who don't get this, think of it like a weekly soap opera -- you pay your TV subscription at the start of the month, and get a new episode each week, each of which is filmed that week.
Anyway it was all covered quite clearly and openly by the word "PREORDER". That means you're paying for something before it's ready. I don't see these complaints being levelled at Minecraft.

My Review!
I certainly like the direction the game is going, but I didn't really feel like my choices mattered. At Hershal's farm, I chose to save his kid instead of Duck, and when then failed to do so(could you save him?), he was still ticked off at me regardless of my decisions and I still was kicked off. Duck's dad didn't even seem ticked off that I didn't even attempt to rescue him. Same with other scenarios, such as trying to prevent the one girl from commiting suicide. She died regaurdless!
What I LOVED however were the action sequences and just the general Walking Dead feel! Moments such as the shotgun-cop sequence at the beginning of frantically figuring out what the best scenario was was a great idea. I do however wish there was a bit more happening during the sequences. By which I mean, say when you were killing the zombies with a screwdriver, I only fought one zombie at a time with one option. It would have been a cool idea in the future to say pick the biggest threat at the time of choose a proper weapon immediately instead of the one thing you already have on you.
All in all, it is a great start, probably losing some shock factor in that the major shocks were shown off in the trailers, so those didn't catch me as much. That certainly won't be a problem with episodes 2-5, and it looks like the season is going in a direction that I'm sure many fans will enjoy.

i also didn't like that i can't leave that girl to roamers. I ment - don't bother with her "resque", she's most obviously doesn't want to be saved, this operation would place our group at risk and it's just like my character would deside, cause i tried to pick up jerk-lines on my 2nd walkthrough.
I'm sugesting not to limit this tread to user's reviews, but also post gameportal's ones (at least ones that are interesting)

Sorry for all-caps but fully justified. I LOVE what you have done with TWD. There is real emotional weight to this game, just like there is in the AMC series (have unfortunately not read the comic books and expect they are the same probably more so). I can't wait for all of the rest of the chapters. It will be agony waiting for each new episode but something I will really look forward to. Terrific terrific job.
I just ran into this same problem with the Telltale download, not Steam.

I got the same freeze, had to do the cmd-opt-esc. But when i selected the second time "don't give here the gun", it passed and i could play along. Strange but true.
Otherwise the game runs smoothly (have the newest imac i7 radeon hd6970), but sometimes it takes long pauses during the auto-saves. It took sometimes 30 seconds of still picture before i was able to play further.
Still a fine game experience

Overall a great game but I would have preferred more active choices. I don't only want to affect people's feelings. I want to affect game outcome in a greater way than pass/fail. I'd like to be able to use the axe to get into the pharmacy so that I never have to unlock the front and therefore save both Doug and Carly. I want to be able to grab Larry the wrong pills and kill him. I want to be able to save Shawn. Though it is canon that he die, that needn't mean that he die on my watch.

Yea i agree with almost all of this.
However i think some of us are really going way to far with how we are expecting to affect the game with just 2 hours into it.
I mean being an interactive story and all at the end its going to be about 10 hours long game, you can't really start killing everyone when its just starting. However i do expect that my choices become harder and have more effect as the story continues lol.

I have been waiting patiently for my opportunity to play Ep 1 A New Day and have read plenty recent threads opinions and reviews since the 24th. I myself knew what would unfold during my first 10 to 15 min involving the police officer and your handcuffs. From the get go if your an avid comic book reader like myself The Walking Dead Game sucks you into the universe of the comic and if you don't approach this game like it's the next Dead Island Left 4 Dead or Dead Rising installment than I really believe this game is for you. All in all this is just MY feedback to Telltale. I do hope though this game is received well by the players an that we continue to see Telltale work alongside Kirkman so that in Episodes 2,3,4 and 5 the game will only get more and more in depth with aspects of surviving a zombie apocalypse an the discussions and conversations Lee makes with other survivors continue to spiral into making a tough decision over another just as equally crucial choice. I look forward to a gory graphical adventure Telltale and thank you for coming through on The Walking Dead.
they mentioned how they had huge multi-page diagrams to keep track of how decisions in game 1 will affect things in later games and such.
That's what I really hoping for. F.e: "you made a choice that you think is minor in ep1, but it will have huge impact in episode 4".
It would make game worth to play multiple times, just to see alternatives and "what-if"s.
At the other and Im affraid it would be like in other games:
"You have multiple choices in episodes, but general output will be pretty much the same anyway".

First of all, stayed up late because I couldn't put the game down, it was a LOT of fun! Now I'm sure I looked at all the stickies three times to be sure there wasn't an official thread to put gameplay suggestions and I can't see it (if there is one, blame it on the fact you made your game too much fun and sorry about that post).
1. Make it more obvious when the game saves to know where you will start back if you stop playing.
2. Allow skipping the "In the next episode" scene. I might be the only person on Earth that hates those things but if not, maybe a simple click-skip with a: "Are you sure you wish the skip the preview" would be perfect!

This. Game. Kicked. Donkey. Butt!
This was seriously one of the most involving, enrapturing gaming experiences I've ever had. I wasn't a big fan of Jurassic Park, I thought the new system was a little shaky and just not what I was used to with Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit, etc.. but gee, Telltale, you have truly mastered it in this game. I didn't see it so much as a game as more of an interactive movie, without the corniness. I felt such so dutiful in my care for Clementine I wouldn't dare upset her, or hurt her, it just didn't feel right. The characters were so well developed, and the relationships established just felt so natural (having read the comics might have given me more depth to them, but it's too late now). The walkers attacks were suspenseful, I had shivers down my spine, and once I had gotten to grips with the dialogue system, I really put myself into Lee's responses. I initially didn't know why the farmer (can't remember the name) accused me of being a liar in the Barn, but I realised it was a consequence of previous dialogue.
I am ranting like a boss, but what I'm trying to say is... Telltale, I've loved you since 2008, and this has been the greatest game you have produced so far. Nevermind the haters with their pre-order issues; THIS. WAS. BOSS. 9/10! I can't wait for EP2.

After the disaster that was Jurassic Park, I'm glad to say The Walking Dead isn't. I was very aprehensive about buying this game, but after hearing mostly positive things I bought the game two hours ago and just finished it.
As with all Telltalegames the storytelling is really good and certainly the strong suit of the game, although I'm not sure the choices I made will actually have any really significant ramifications in future episodes. They didn't even manage that in the Mass Effect series, so I would be pleasently surprised if Telltale should actually pull that off in Future Episodes.
The graphics are pretty good and it seems the Telltale Engine hides its shortcommings much better with the stylized comic graphics. Still there were some really low-res Textures to be found throughout the game that shouldn't have been there in 2012 pc game. Also the character animation wasn't all it could have been. The animations were pretty basic and wooden not to mention that Lee didn't seem to have a run cycle in one spot and just seemed to akwardly "run" with standard walk cycle.
The audio was ok too, I guess I cought a lucky break and directly started with V2 of episode 1. The compression of the voices seemed overall ok to me just the music to sometimes cut from one cue to another one without any transition wich was quite distracting. Also the standard volume settings seem suboptimal as the music was sometimes way to loud and had to be turned down manually. The voiceacting is as usual a very solid effort and really did a good job bringing the characters to life.
Now on to the really important part of a game... the gameplay. Well it's not perfect but it is actually a game, unlike Jurassic Park, wich was merely an "cg movie" with some anoying button mashing mixed in. Jes the story was very solid, but it wasn't a game, it was an aggrevating patience tester.
Luckily The Walking Dead is actually a game, but just a casual game. There was really no challange in beating this game at all. Everything was extremly straight forward and I managed to finish the game without putting any thought into the "puzzles". Everything more or less just fell into place and then it was alreay over. Was it fun? Sure, but it doesn't feel like a victory to beat it. You don't have to solve any clever puzzle or anything else that is actually challanging, so it doesn't feel like an achievement that you survived that day in the zombie apocalypse.
So it's a short fun casual game but it just lacks the important feeling of achievment when you make it to the end of the episode. :(

I would give The walking dead a 8/10
Telltale redeemed themselves after Jurassic Park with The Walking Dead
The gameplay was great and the game has a very good mix between Sam & Max, Monkey island and Strong Bad's gameplay (Point and click) and Jurassic Park's Quick Time Events (because theres more Point and click than Quick time events) the first episode of the game proves that Telltale has learned from their mistakes and made it better than Jurassic Park

Never heard of Telltale Games before. Just happen to search The Walking Dead on Youtube and seen some videos for the game.
Just finished playing Episode 1 and I loved it. Felt like I was controlling a actual episode of The Walking Dead.
Cant wait for all the other episodes, just wish I did not have to wait. I want MORE!!!!
I will replay and make some other choices just to mess around.
So far great f#@king game. Hope it gets better and keeps going.

Just wanted to throw in a comment of congratulations to Telltale for this game, I really enjoyed this first episode. I know absolutely nothing about "The Walking Dead" comics or TV show, but as a fan of adventure/story games I was really impressed with the engaging characters, and the lack of story context - totally just feel thrown into it, discovering bits and pieces through casual interaction in a very non-expositiony kind of way. Cool storytelling sensibilities, loved it.
I am anxious to see how things will pan out for the characters, though I am getting the distinct impression that it's not going to be too happy... :)

I have never played a story game like this before. I am more of a RTS or First Person Shooter type of gamer, but this was really a fun game. At the price, it's like a monthly comic book subscription. I would certainly recommend it to my friends.

Great stuff, I was throughly impressed with my first outing, so much so that I've replayed it-- twice. Just some feedback on your accomplishment!
First, please take note that I have the 360 version. I know where a 360 stands in terms of power compared to a gaming PC, so maybe machine limitation was my problem. My graphics got choppy whenever they were alot of zombies (5+) on screen during the cinematic scenes more so than the free world or QTEs. I expected this from a certain Ubisoft or Bethesda golden child, but not here.
Alot of sound choppiness. More so toward scenes in the end of the game rather than the beginning. Sometimes the subtitles would even lag and end up zooming by impossibly fast, my only inkling that I missed something came from the blur of colours and the voices doing a quick hiccup as if I was listening to The Stones backwards for a second (!!!PIHSROW NATAS).
Also, and I didn't go around purposely trying to break the game (I only do that when I'm told ;) ), but after I bandaged a certain finger, and I was supposed to have the scene where SOMEONE gets stuck and I gotta go help them? Well before Clementine started whining "hey I asked you a question!..... Answer me!) I hit X to start a convo with her. What happened was after was that she didn't ask me any question, but still insisted I answer it. Glenn never called for help, and I just had to go talk to Carlie and tell her I was ready to go. Weird hey?
However, I loved this game. The graphics were exactly what I expected from TWD. The voice acting was seamless even if the voice playing wasn't always. I felt right at home in this game. It wasn't as freeworldly as I had anticipated. There are still much worse buys in XBLA, and for 400 points you cannot beat this game in terms of all around quality. Fantastic job on making me love the characters! Many times did the time bar almost expire while I agonized over a decision.
Thanks for the great weekend TellTale, I'm glad we've decided to make this a continuing thing. I'll see you next month, how much do I owe you? ;) Lol
ONE LAST THING!! Does Doug wear socks with sandals irl? See the scene with Doug working on the remote. That has sealed his fate with me in many a save file lol

The game didn't have a difficulty mode so there is no hard mode. Plus it is near impossible to beat the game in a half an hour when the dialog is unskippable/will take a lot of your time...

This is my first TT game. I must say the game doesn't flow that well on PC. It wasn't hard to over come the maneuver / mouse / dialogue it is just different from anything I've played on PC. Other than that small annoyance which I quickly got over the game went well beyond what I hoped for it. All the complaints about system issues, I'm on a 5 year old machine with 2GB ram and I had no issues at all with video or sound.
Storyline 4 of 5
Action 4 of 5
Decision tree 5 of 5 ( it really makes you feel like you are there)
scare/anxiety 4 of 5
I described it to a friend this way. It has the look of the comic book and the feel of the TV series. I'm sure you all did Kirkman proud. Playing the game I felt like I was in his universe. Thanks for doing a great job and I look forward to the rest of the season not to mention many more!

By way of review, I gotta say that my wife (who is not a gamer but a big fan of the comics and TV show) was GLUED TO THE COUCH while I was playing. You really sucked her into the storyline. Well done.
One thing she noticed (which I suspect to be true) is the "In the next episode The Walking Dead" teaser at the end of episode one, we heard dialogue that hints back to some choices I made while playing. If that's the case, it's even more brilliant storytelling. Haven't had a chance to go back and try a different plot tree yet to verify, but the dialogue mechanics are really intriguing.
Great voice acting on the whole. So often gaming dialogue sounds like actors reading scripts in disparate sound booths over the course of several different sessions. Rarely does it sound (or feel) like the actors are physically in the same space with each other. TWD does a great job of making all these lines of dialog mesh and sound natural, which, when I think about it, is made all the more challenging by the fact that there must be multiple dialogue trees as well.
Thanks for the amazing effort you've put in, TTG. I can't wait to see what's coming up.

How's the replay value? For ones who have finished EP1 - do you see yourself replaying choosing different dialog?
Absolutely gonna play it again to see how different choices play out. Played it last night till the wee hours then had to go check all the doors and windows before I could sleep.
My wife observed (and I expect she's right) that in an ending cutscene teaser for "In the next episode of The Walking Dead" that some of the scenes directly referenced choices I made while playing - all during typically cinematic, quick-cut scenes. It played like a typical TV teaser but I swear that if I played it again, I'd see different content within that teaser. I'll find out tonight, might even leave work a little early to see if I can get in a little play time before I pick up my 3 year old.
The one challenge I see to this is that while I may open up different narrative branches, seeing some of the core scenes multiple times may become a little repetitious. But there's really no other way to work that storytelling mechanic (except, perhaps if TTG allowed a toggle in the settings menu to allow one to skip cutscenes with a button press after you had played through the first time).
I get the impression that choices you make in earlier episodes will carry over into subsequent episodes. If that bears out it has the opportunity to be a really rich narrative experience with a certain degree of replayability.

This is of course completely true. The teaser even tries to center as much as possible on what you've decided in the game. On my third playthrough, more than half of the teaser were different scenes.

Lee can be really selfish, overcautious, unnecessarily aggressive and, when it comes to Clementine, pretty clumsy, but I'm not sure if he can really be played as a complete asshole in the game.

Hello there Telltale forum goers!
The Walking Dead has been my first experience with a Telltale game and I loved chapter one.
My attention was brought to it by Totalbiscuit's WTF is..... of The Walking Dead, which went along way for me to actually go and buy it since point and click things aint really my thing because I'm really bad missing items and things of import in games. (Damn Chapter 3 in the Witcher 2) but its fun, imaginative and has a deeply chilling story.
All those qualities I love and expect to see in a good TV show or book I have found in a video game, which is no mean feat.
Every time I decided something important my feet went cold and I thought: "shit what will happen because I did X" and now I want to see what happens in chapter 2.
Keep it coming!
PS
The chapter 2 preview seemed a tad spoilerish, I'm usually cool with previews like that as long as there is no context, but it might have revealed a bit too much for my taste.

I've had and is still having a heap of trouble starting and running this game on my pc. But I've played through it on my macbook pro. And I made my spouse do the same. The only game in years to keep us hooked all the way through. Roughly 2-3 hrs of play through the first episode. Telltale did an awesome job on this one. Game feels fresh and the feel is the same I got with the comic. Fabolous stuff! Can't wait for the next episode. I do enjoy the wait though. I tried to keep it relatively spoiler free, so no need to worry too much if you're looking to check out this game.

Ok, first of all: no crash problems. Only thing is, I have to play with low details, cause on high details I get a lot of graphical bugs. Don't know what the problem is, my drivers are all up to date, maybe problem with my ATI card.
But the problem doesn't really bother me, game looks good enough for me, even with low details.
Now to the topic: Ep.1 is just AWESOME! I played through it twice and chose different options. Expected a bit more different events from the decisions I made, but the story is great and it plays really cool, I can't wait for the next episodes. One of the best games I ever played.
Only hope that I get the opportunity in future episodes to get rid of Larry (preferably by letting him get eaten by some zombies), I HATE that guy and after what he did to me at the end of Ep.1, I just want to pay him back twice ;-)
Summary: GREAT game!!! I love it, can't wait for the next episode and hope that there will be a season 2.

what can i say but great game, I love the comic books and the tv show one could even say i am obsessed:D. the game makes you feel like you are there in the comic world of the walking dead protecting clem and meeting the people that will become your post apocalyptic family. its great that you get to make the choices that anyone in that predicament would have to make. only problem is i think 5 episodes are not enough i mean the story can go on forever and i hope that TTG sees that and makes more episodes;)

I ended up playing Episode 1 of The Walking Dead in one sitting, late night, with the lights off and have to say its one of the most intense horror experiences I've had since playing the older Fatal Frame games, or some moments in Forbidden Siren 2. Given my dislike of spoilers I'd avoided any information about the game beyond the fact that it was going out, and as such was more than pleasantly surprised by how well the artwork evoked the feel of the comics. Unlike others, I had no issue with the graphic textures, or the sound, and beside a very infrequent hiccup during scene changes at a couple of points, no real issues there.
The pace of the conversations / choices was a joy, since it was the first I'd seen since the Sakura Wars series, although it'd be interesting if in future if TT added another aspect of that system, which is where options would change if you waited rather than answering straight up.
The characterisations were spot on, and I found myself (much to my embarassment given that I'm a reader of the comics) trying desperately to save Shawn in as many different ways that I could think of. How the sequence sets up Hershel's farm in the comics was brilliantly down, and the other cameo was enjoyable. The interplay between the different characters and the folks that they meet really raised the bar on what I was expecting from an adventure game, with the voice acting feeling some of the most natural I've heard.
I found myself in a near perpetual state of nearly unbearable tension, waiting for a zombie attack, and worrying that any of the cast might get killed at any point in time.
Personally, I'm hoping for a sequence with Larry similar to what occurred with Shane in the comics, except involving his heart condition.

I agree with most of what you said, I hope that decisions you make do make a bigger effect in this game. I think the last decision you had to make in Episode 1 will make an impact. But yeah I am not going to replay it until I have finished Episode 5, I am gonna live with my decisions. I hope as well that there will be a few more complex puzzles than just having to turn the batteries around the other way, I don't think that was meant to be a puzzle but it would be good if they included more but I did love the Motel section like you said. Good review.

Trying out Gamersgate (aka Ripoff Artists) version of the game for PC.
Voice acting and animation are fantastic. That's it. The mechanics of the game suck so intensely that there are not adjectives strong enough to describe this.
If I had known this was a PORT from a console, I never would have purchased it.
If I had known that there are zERO camera controls (no zoom, no camera rotation, no nothing) I never would have purchased this game.
If I had know that it is IMPOSSIBLE to remap the keys, I never would have purchased the game.
If I had known that every five minutes I would be KILLED by a sucker-punch style attack, with a crappy useless slow interface that gives NO chance to react in time....I never would have purchased this game.
Way, way back in the days when the only games were in Video Arcades, there was a horrible game on Laser Disk called something like
Dragon's Lair.
This turd cost twice as much to play, 50 cents a game, which lasted maybe two minutes because, like Walking Dead, you die within milliseconds of being attacked and you have to make decisions in microseconds.
Like WD, it tells a story, but DEMANDS you react at the speed of light with no warning.
So, you die, then....you reload. Oh joy, a suspense game that DRAINS every single possible DROP of surprise of pleasure from the game by making combat impossible to win...so you get to reload and repeat, reload and repeat, reload and repeat.....then RAGEQUIT.
When will game designers learn that FRUSTRATION does not equal FUN?

I play on a PC and had zero problems. I played on a weak a$$ laptop too. No issues. And QWERTY may not be the only keyboard type around but it is certainly the most common.
As far as a review, this is what is referred to as a Story Driven Game. The player is only in moderate control of his character as the character goes through the story. At regular intervals the player is given choices in conversation, limited actions or against opposition of some type. The players actions decide which direction the story will take. An unusual game method but I like it. I am a big Zomboholic so a differnt genre may not be as interesting or entertaining, for me at least.
The game itself comes across like a comic book series. The art is very much like a comic but very well done. The characters, both the player and the supporting cast, are interseting and well written. The story is very good. It is sometimes frightening and sometimes sad but well written.
I would certainly recommend this to any zombie genre lovers. Others may not find it that good. The game is short, even at $6.00 an episode so you gotta love zombies to get your fill of this game. It does have limited replayability.

+1 just finished it & only negative is I want to play EP2 nowwwwwwwwwwww

I really do love how this game is. I was literally screaming at my tv when he drops the shotgun shell in the beginning. Everything about this game is great and it makes you feel like your in the Walking Dead Comic universe. I do wish though that you had more saves. 3 isn't enough for me, I want to play this game with as many outcomes as I can just like Mass Effect.

I disagree with everything you say GMAN5852. I am not a gamer and played this game through and never died. I also enjoyed the game and found the combat not to difficult to master. I should also point out that I am disabled and have a lot of difficulty holding controllers for to long yet I was able to play this game no problem. Also I do not lie when I say that I enjoyed the game both on my pc and xbox 360. this is the first Telltale game that I have played

All in all it was a pretty satisfying experience for me and the game has me asking for more. I really can't wait for the next episode.
Kudos on that front.
Graphics:
I've heard that the graphic got some flag, yet it gets the job done and, let's be honest, the story counts most.
Especially in the Walking Dead universe. The only thing I found to be desperately missing, was a black and white mode to get the feel of the comics. I also expected a Max-Payne like comic backstory, esp. concerning Lee.
The Settings:
I found the game a bit too fast moving. It gets pretty fast from the police car, to the house, and from there to the farm, up to the drug store. Only the drug store itself felt like a real "level" where you could explore and it did not necessarily feel like "just" a game. The intermezzo at the farm was the worst for me, as you just talk to every guy, and the dillemma-trigger appears, and then you are cast away. It felt rushed and could have been used to deepen the relationship between Lee and Clementine for example. The drug store was the best part though, although it too felt a bit short.
What I found great though is the possibilty to set out in day and night, changing a whole scene. This is what I want more, though I know it's pretty arrogant to demand different scenes that are really long. Yet that's just the greedy customer I am ;)
The Characters:
Lee
seems to be a wellcrafted main protagonist who makes it really to identify with. Even though with the murder. I am not sure if I find it good that his backstory is not yet clear, that we do not know everything about his murder (and if it really was murder) yet.
Just please let him curse, too, instead of that weird growling. And his looks of surprise/fear with his big eyes are kind of overdone. It makes him look like Bambi.
And just for the rule of cool: When Lee gets his fireaxe, why does he not wear it on his back? That would look awesome!
Herrschel:
Too short to really get to know him. Will he be back? Would feel a waste of time if he did not.
Clementine
is the game's secret star. She is just too cute and I really care about her and want to protect her, and get her to safety. The scene where one has to take care of her finger drowns in cuteness. I almost cried manly tears.
Kenny, Katjaa, Duck
just a normal family. And fit the role they are given perfectly.
Larry
is a very hateable character. It's almost too easy the game creates a strong dislike towards him. But reality is unrealistic, I guess. Dicks will be dicks.
I just hope he gets a bit more fleshed out as a character, instead of the big ill-tempered brute. That he also knows about Lee supposed murder makes things interessting.
Lilly
seems to be set up as a possible love interest, esp. in the way Larry demands you to back off her at the end. This too felt a bit fast-paced as there is not really that much interaction with her that I can remember. I don't yet know that character that very well.
I just hope if there is a possible romance, that they are neither forced upon the player and that he can chose between different NPC and genders.
Carley
Shall I really believe she has no idea how to put batteries into a radio? Otherwise, cool character. Reminds me a bit of Andrea of the comics who happens to be my most favorite character. Also the fact that she knows about Lee and keeps it to herself adds quite an amount of mystery which I like. I am eager to see how that will play out.
Dough,
kind of the Zoidbberg. Nice guy. Yet not much to say about him more. When confronted with the choice who to save, he was easy to ignore.
Glenn
I found it odd that of all characters that could be included from the comics, you chose Glenn. And he does not add much to the plot.
B. Everett
This was the only failed character as the scene in which Lee offed him was supposed to be that big emotional moment, but fell completely flat for me. Without any backstory I did just not care for that guy. So the troubles Lee was having felt forced and the scene just dragged.
Also: I know to hit for the head. Why did Lee have to hit the neck twice? I mean, it's cool to have variances, please but don't force my failings. (Like in the beginning, it seems hardscripted that you let the key fall down, and also drop the bullet. It would be better if one could succeed at first, just make it harder. An earn your happy ending approach. Though I doubt this tale ends well. ^^ I just want my moments of accomplishment without oh-but-you-must-fail! moments. Make it but-you-can-fail ones.)
On that note, it also was not the best course of action to doom Shawn to die while Duck will always be saved by the script.
Game Choice Intention Oddity:
At the hotel you discover that the girl, Irene, was bitten. She asks for the gun to off herself. When I denied her the gun, I did not intend to "get her to a doctor" but I wanted to shoot her myself or let Carley shoot her. I did not want to put a gun into the hand of one cleary distressed young woman and most preferabbly would have mercy-killed her by axe to keep things quite. Yet the games thought I denied for her to be killed in order to "save" her and hence had me siding with Glenn. The options what denying the gun meant should have been phrased better.
Conclusion
I reserve a final judgement when all episodes are released of course. Yet you guys are off to a very good start.
I just want to add that I, most importantly, want my decisions to add up. The deeds I do this episode shall shape the gaming world drastically. I also hope that there will be quite some "mean" choices, so that I do not automatically have play as Mr. Nice guy, like "accidentally" killing Larry in a firefight when no ones is looking. Not that I'll do that. I will be tempted though ;)
And oh, jsut to throw it out: The Ending of a story is just as important as the whole rest. Just ask BioWare ;D

I'm a little confused what you mean by disagreeing with me as I never said the combat was hard.

The game was awesome. I sincerely hope that Tell Tale will ensure that all of our choices have deep running effects as they seem to have in the first episode.
It would go on my greatest game ever list if we get: 1) Choices that affect the entire story line. 2) Multiple Endings.
And no bugs and monthly releases but that goes without saying.

Has anyone experience the problem where sometimes the audio loops over itself? like the character is trying to say two different sets of texts?

I just finished playing through the game 1.5 times and I have to say that while it's beautifully done and full of character, I'm a little disappointed with a few things. First, the length of the episode is short - sure, it's technically just $5 per episode, but at just about 2 hours of game play it's not a great value. Second, the interaction is pretty minimal, and there's definitely a sense that the whole thing is pretty much on rails. I get that this is a cinematic game and not a sandbox, but there could be a little more actual interaction. Finally, even the choices that one is able to make don't (at least at this point) actually change much in the plot or where things ultimately end up. I played up to the drugstore a second time to see if there were major changes and aside from changing people's attitude towards me, it really didn't seem to make much of a difference. Perhaps there will be more branches in the future based on choices of the past, but as a "choose your own adventure" style game, this one just doesn't offer much choice. Or adventure.

I've played through three times now, each taking a different character direction. First playthrough ~ Mr. Nice Guy. Second ~ Total selfish jerk. Third ~ Man of few words. I find the game to be the most rewarding when you're not being an ignorant asshole, which is to be expected. Have to say though, it was quite a challenge to ignore Shawn and Duck at the farm and just stand there like a heartless coward, while Shawn was begging me for help. Damn. ><

I love that you can play it through again and choose different paths, but I decided that I wouldn't until I've done all the episodes through once because I want to know where my initial choices/instinct will take the story.
There's a nice review at SofaWarriors about Walking Dead http://games.sofawarriors.com/blogs/marylou/walking-dead. Also doesn't appear to have much in the way of spoilers if you've not played it yet.

Yeah that was my plan too... But I just numbered them in my head and will continue the trend in future episodes. Save 1 - nice guy, 2- douche, 3- silent
I couldn't wait over a month to play the next 2hrs lol so playing it 3 times I get 6 hrs which will laster me longer next episode too

And with that, the one and only TotalBiscuit has made his WTF is The Walking Dead? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrpHUldp4K8&feature=g-u-u). He seemed to quite enjoy it.
I watched this today. At work. Bad move. Uncontrollable laughter w/ literally tears streaming down my face raised quite a few eyebrows among my coworkers. That guy is hilarious! I think it was just the perfect combo of his accent (sigh), comments, and wonderfully dry sense of humor. Seriously, I want to tie him up in my attic and bring him out when I need cheering up!

How's the replay value? For ones who have finished EP1 - do you see yourself replaying choosing different dialog?
Not as good the first time round, and you can't change the main events but this is episode one, hopefully things will start rolling and we can start to see some real drastic choices!

Even if you cannot change main events, I still feel that the first episode had much replay value.
The dialogs can change quite a lot depending on your choice
And there is so much to see and hear, for example after climbing the fence, just wander around in the garden for a while...
Also, when Lee is attacked, why not just let him die and see the animations, most of them are well done: http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29962

I liked Episode 1 a lot too! I saw the playthroughs on YouTube, and decided to try them out myself.
I'm quite relieved that there isn't much hack and slash with the zombies if truth be told.I normally avoid zombie games like the plague (Resident Evil, Silent Hill) but this I can handle. :D

I've been so worried about the direction Telltale has been taking, moving away from more traditional adventure games.
I loved this game.
For at least the first episode (I haven't played further yet), the whole thing was filled with what I saw glimmers of in Jurassic Park. Every complaint I had in that game, I think, was resolved here.
I'm really hoping that we still get more traditional open movement games (Sam and Max 4, please!), but at least for this? Huge kudos.
