Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Chuck at all. I like having someone who is generally optimistic and easy going. After all the stuff that happened in this episode, it's a welcomed attribute to have. Having a hobo is a nice change of character types in this story too. And he's voiced by the Bastion narrator? Awesome!

My problem with Chuck, however, is how his character integrated into the plot and his character growth. It feels like he was kind of forced in just to be the "magical mystical" character. You know what I mean. The "comes in and convenient solves problems" kind of guy. Movies have used the "magical mystical gay guy/old man/Morgan Freeman/etc" for years so I think we can recognize them. It's not a bad character, but sometimes a too convenient character.

Here's some things that bugged me about it:

- Somehow he manges to talk to everybody in the minute Lee walked to the boxcar and became everyone's best friend by giving them candy

- Raises no qualms about stealing his house, supplies or anything. I didn't expect a fight or anything, but maybe a bit more concern on his part.

- Has to have a pointed moment where he speaks the voice of reason and fixes all the problems immediately facing Clementine

- Mostly speaks in cryptic thoughtful dialogue. It's good dialogue, but it doesn't reveal much about his character

- No real character progression to speak of. Pretty much unchanged by the events around him. Yes he wasn't in it a lot but he was present for some big moments. Even Ben had character growth for his small role.

I'd be fine having him around, but I really hope they give him more of a personality and traits to make him a developed character instead of a convenient plot device. There's great potential for him. It just needs to be realized.

ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS?

He's keeping his past a secret says he hasn't seen his family in 14 years but when you first enter the train cab there's a pic of chuck his wife and 2 kids above the savannah map but after you meet chuck its gone

I just find it slightly depressing that we lost Doug/carly, katja, duck and lilly and (and in the episode before that we lost mark and larry) and all we got from this was Chuck, Omar and what's her face? 0_o?

Eh, I like Chuck better than all the other new characters, but he didn't seem to 'solve' anything (yet). He just gave Lee some rational advice and seems like a pretty cool guy.

Chuck has the chance to be the ultimate bro to Lee. I already trust him more than I ever did Kenny.

He just seems to be the laid-back type of person. It seems that no kind of conversation fazes him.

I think meeting a homeless man who is taking shelter in an abandoned train is somewhat plausible. Candy is probably one of the few calorie sources that has yet to spoil and he was probably observing the group for awhile before deciding that we were okay to approach...keep in mind Charles is alone, unarmed and not used to being around people.

I mean....if a fellow survivor approaches you, says "hi", is holding a guitar when you have a gun, and offers you some of what little food he has...is he unfriendly and not to be trusted or even liked?

I was sure the picture was from the train conductor with the smashed head.
Wouldn't make sense for Charles to climb over the conductor, place a picture on the wall, climb over again without moving him... His pictures would be at his place in the boxcar.

So yea, that picture isn't chucks

I'm with Clem and Lee - open eyes and mind, judgment pending.

...there's a pic of chuck his wife and 2 kids above the savannah map but after you meet chuck its gone

That was the train conductor's family and the photo only disappeared after Kenny lost Katjaa and Duck. It's reasonable to assume he took down the happy family picture, as he's the one sitting there.

....I like chuck.
I think he's a really good man, But I think he has something that he didn't tell us. He acts ... Weird.
When he was approached Lee In the wagon I really thought he'd pull out a knife and Stab him in the heart. But I like him. He's a drunk, Yes, But He's nice. He acts nice, And wants the best for everyone. But, Now about the thing he's keeping hid. I think he has a dark secret yet to be revealed... What If he is a murderer, Ready to kill the group? What if, More people came that way, And decided to reside in the wagon, But he killed them.
I really think there's something dark about him. Let's see what telltale has In for us...
No haters please.

Yeah, there does seem something wrong with him... Maybe I'm just paranoid.

There are theories that he's the St Johns Dad but not confirmed.

I think there's more to him than meets the eye.

It's also possible he's the guy on the radio.... That radio can't have a long range.

He must have a dark secret. He just looks like the type of person who kills.
I don't really have thoughts about him. He's nice so far..

He makes me uneasy. Don't know why. Maybe it's because he couldn't have been living in the train all the time, he would have slplooshed or something like the driver. So where was he? Has he really survived by himself? etc. He gives advice and talks about us, rather than talk about himself. etc.

Hopefully we don't go to sleep, and wake to find him and one of the group missing or something.

It wouldn't surprise me at all If he went rebel on the group, and maybe kill someone. But yeah, Maybe He is a St. John, He reminds me of Danny A LITTLE.

Just a little.

My first impression was that he was going to be really pissed if I lied to him, so i told him the truth.
He's a really nice person, and It was funny when he offered candy to Omid and Christa.
I think he's a fine addition to the group, considering he cares for Clementine.

Yeah, if you let the dialogue from when Omid and Christa introduces themselves nearly run out, you'll hear chuck say "Want some candy?".

He managed to forget about his whiskey until Lee brought it forward, so maybe he forgot he'd stashed more candy in the boxcar until then.

When he talks to Lee about Clem, he mentions not being able to take seeing another little girl get killed - so there's more to learn about his past. It could be that he's not been on his own for as long as we think, or he could be thinking of an incident before, maybe one that started him drinking and living the hobo life. I don't think he's going to be Jolene Mk II, but maybe he's just better at hiding it.

I like Chuck. He is a calm and very wise character which is a nice break from all the commotion that the group had before. When he said that seeing another little girl die might just do him in got to me though. Maybe Clem gets in trouble and Chuck sacrifices himself to save her.

Me too, Chuck doesn't really seem suspicious. On the contrary he's ready to share his whiskey, his candies and his wisdom with the group. Imagine, he just stumbled upon our group and is willing to give a lot of things. Also he really did ease Katjaa's last moments and provides music with his guitar.
These things aren't taken for granted anymore in this apocalypse and I personally enjoy his company. But maybe I'm just feeling like this, because he appeared right after the loss of my beloved Carley. :(

Frankly, Chuck is a dull character. He is the stereotypical homeless train rider with a heart of gold and carrying around a guitar that magically has all it's strings, despite him being a total bum. I'm hoping he'll get it quickly next episode.

Chuck is cool. He said he didn't want to see "another" little girl die, as it would be too much for him. Maybe he's only been on his own sicne the outbreak started? Or maybe it was something that happened before the walkers that made him leave his family and become homeless. I like him, because he came at a time when the group needed a bright spirit and an optomistic outlook. Plus, he has a cool guitar. That makes him worth it already.

Does anyone else think chuck could have killed the train conductor. I don't know how unless he hopped the train when it was still running. The only reason I think this is because the train conductor never came back to life as a zombie.

think about it, he's old and homeless and is now going through a ZA...probably not much he hasnt seen and Im sure he's been around the block a fews times.
He definitely seems like a positive force, always referring to the group as a whole and how they can overcome stuff together...I think he'll offer good advice to Lee on matters but probably wont be too helpful in physical aspects. But I do like his laidback attitude; seems like the first person we've met without a hidden agenda

TellTale said starting from Ep 3 the series would get extremely dark...

Perhaps we'll discover about Chuck's past in Ep 4?

Who knows what kind of horrible things he's done...

Haha, that's how I was feeling after the St. John's brothers and the Lilly fiasco.

Speaking of the St. Johns, I think it would be a very interesting angle if it turned out he was Terry St. John. That'd be a fun conversation to have, wouldn't it?

I think he's a nice guy and he does seem to have reasons for a lot but what concerned me was when he told Clementine she was going to die. I think you're right about he might be killing people, I don't and I do. He's got something weird about him. Maybe I'm just overthinking this but what if he does plan to kill the group?

Chuck is the dude that gets shunned when everythings normal but when it comes to survival he's already had however long, I like him, almost threw him off a train but I like him, his head is screwed on when it comes to zombies but I don't want to get too close to anyone now, tensions are high!
