As requested. Nope, he's not Terry St. John and no, that wasn't his family picture in the cab of the train. What's your take on the man of mystery, our bum guru, the candyman? Theories and predictions on his past, future and ETD?

Well, he obviously wants to stay in the group, considering he mentions it when you ask him where he's going once you hit Savannah. And despite his words to Clem, he only meant well and I think he'll do his best to look out for her. He'll probably continue being a sort of adviser for the group, like he was with Lee. And in the end, I feel he'll die protecting the group.

Don't quote me on that, though...

I hope he stays around. Out of the three new characters, he's the one that interests me the most. I'm intrigued to find out about his history and a bit more of his personality. He seems pretty wise and he must've gone through some sort of trauma.

I sort of took note of this when he said, "And seeing another little girl die might just do me in." Got me wondering who the other girl was. Made a bit more sense as to why he was overly concerned with Clem as well.

Chuck's cool with me. He was right regarding Clem and seems knowledgeable enough to make him a good adviser for Lee. Since he said he didn't want to see another little girl die, I suspect he might've been with another survivor group before, if so he'll be able to keep us from at least making the same mistakes his past group did. I'm thinking he'll continue the adviser role in Episode 4, maybe help Kenny as well. As for survival chances, while anyone can die, I think he has the best chance out of the new characters.

The walkie has a short range..... I still can't shake the feeling he's on the other end.

I'm not sure that's reasonable... I mean, Clem's been talking to it for some time. She claims it's pretend, but I'm pretty sure that when she says she "needs it" in episode 2, she's already been in contact with the person on the other end. The "pretend talks" may have been a lie. But then again, we won't really know until Clem admits it.

Besides all of that though, the guy on the other end doesn't really sound like Chuck.

Maybe it's Doug?

He's pretty tech savvy.

And who knows, maybe he didn't get eaten alive after getting pulled out of that window.

*and yes, this was humor.

Edit: I just don't like the idea of some new "OMG THIS CHARACTER REALLY WAS FOLLOWING YOU SINCE DAY ONE" pull at the last moment... Chuck's entrance could be a cowinkydink... or more...

That's an interesting theory - but I think the group would have found the other radio if Chuck was involved.

Also, in the beginning of Episode 3, I believe we see Chem talking to someone on the walkie talkie. So, quite unlikely that it is Chuck in my opinion.

This guy is pretty laid-back. I don't think he cares what happens to him or the group. Definitely like him better than the other two we met.

"And seeing another little girl die might just do me in."

That made me wonder, too. I'm wondering if Charles may have lost his daughter fourteen years ago, and blamed himself for it. That might explain why he chose to outcast himself. Heck, maybe in some manner, he was to blame for his daughter's death (Or it was an accident) and has the same wrap as Lee (In a different sense). That might explain his quote. :O

I smell drinking buddies! :D

Or he wants a replacement.... "don't trust Lee, come with daddy chuck"

I think he's the classic "don't judge a book by it's cover", character archetype.

Later in the story, something fucked up is going to happen and everyone in the group will blame him because of his shady appearance, but the truth is he's actually a stand-up guy.

All I know for sure about this guy is that he survived over three months on his own in a ZA. He was also doing just fine before Lee and Co. showed up and commandeered his home.

His past does not matter anymore, his future is uncertain now that he's with our group, his ETD is mid to late episode 4 like chapter 6.

i think chuck is the most interesting out of the three new ones, when we have a conversation about our plans did anybody mention a plan he likes? because i don't think i have

I'm kinda torn, yeah he's interesting, but what kind of person tells a little girl she's going to die just like her friend, moments after that friend was killed. He's a bit of a sick twist.

This theory crossed my mind too. Chuck may be a very good actor. Alternatively, after being homeless for so long, he may have adopted multiple personalities.

However, his desire to travel with the group to Savannah weakens this theory. He could have stolen Clementine from Lee in the forest with his already established trust and the promise of more candy. (Ben could be overpowered, Katjaa was busy with Duck, Kenny and Lee were busy with the train.)

Like, maybe Chuck organised a trap or trade in Savannah, but it seems unlikely, considering the distance. It would have been difficult to communicate and coordinate.

That would be very far-fetched. The train is small. I think that Ban, Christa and Omid would be pretty suspicious if they saw him talking to a radio. Also, Chuck can easily check where everyone is. Why would he talk to Clementine if he knows that she is sleeping, and Lee and Kenny are nearby?

I think Chuck's just being brutally honest because being an outsider is what comes "naturally" to him. In my limited experience bums and other outcasts tend to orchestrate their own exclusion from the community ad nauseam by "misbehaving". Chucks going about it in a rather mellow way though. He's not unreasonable once you talk to him and his offending honesty is tied to his desire to help the group, or at least part of it.

What do I think will happen to Chuck? Well, worst case scenario is that his big plan in Savannah ends up with him senselessly drunk. Anything darker than a drunken hobo would be a bad call from telltale. The group has had enough perverts and nutjobs to deal with in the previous episodes and with the walkie-talkie man lurking about in ep 4, I don't think another sicko would add any shock value.

Plus him being an allright guy and a hobo might be much more horrible(all that searing cognitive dissonance) for most gamers, than him being a sicko who wants to see little girls suffer.

I found it weird people thought the engineer's picture was Chuck's family.
Chuck was living in the boxcar, the picture was taped right next to the dead engineer in the engine room

I like Chuck and his good advice, I also appreciate his musical talent :)
The theory that he is a threat to Clem doesn't fit for me. Why would he advice Lee to take precautions so that she his harder to grab and also to make her proficient in the use of a gun so that she can deal with someone that is a danger to her? very contradictory.

It also sadly a sad reflection on society these days that a lot of peoples reaction to a kindly old man and a couple taking an interest in the welfare of a child must mean that they have unnatural desires towards her.

Although I'm totally convinced that the walkie talkie creep is a pedo :(

Maybe Chuck was the engineer?
Maybe his little girl was eaten by walkers?
Maybe the Hobo died in the crash?
Maybe Chuck lost it and traded clothes with the dead Hobo? (He'd have to be crazy to do that)

Yeah... yeah...

I think the majority of people have those kinds of reactions because it's a freaking zombie apocalypse and they're all doing what they can to protect little Clementine, so I guess having those reaction does make sense. You can't really trust anyone on a zombie apocalypse, that's been proven over and over again already.

So Chuck is really the engineer in hobo's clothes...and he has been using this ruse to lure people near the train...that sneaky bastard!

Pfft... been there, done that. Worse, Chuck was a country singer in his day; between booze and broads, he drank himself into exile.

I want Chuck to use his guitar to serenade the herd and lead them out of Savannah in the style of the pied piper. This will leave the city safe so Lee and Clem can find her parents in safety :D

i think that would actually work :D , zombie crowd control tactics can be as simple as the crowd. an electric guitar and an amp would be better though :)
