-- What do you think the future holds for Sam & Max?
Sam: Our images depicted as plush toys sold in every airport gift shop on Earth would be good.
Max: We won't be satisfied until even we can't stand to see ourselves.

We can't deny Sam & Max. Now they must be made!

Ill take anything S&M.. just please no State Fair plushes .. we dont need more useless prize winnings. Though now that I think of it.. that might be an awesome fair game.. show me the door!
Purcell talked about making a desoto still figure with the comic duo in it.. personally thats a friggen awesome idea, so start signing up for that one too! Even steve backs it! (btw if you ever see or hear me use the word "backing" its not meaning with money but mind)

I'd like a Max plushie.

Then again, I've had this brillent idea to see if I can construct a rubber head of the Toy Mafia and construct a HypnoBear out of an old Teddy Bear and walk around with it. Nah, too much effort, and I don't have enough felt in the peppermint pink colour area.

09/06/2007, 07:38 am
i guess a max plushie would sell fine. maybe sam as well, but all the more human characters might be difficult and no one wants a jimmy plush? or am i wrong? maybe one of those genuine steve purcell rats wouldn't be so bad. like the one on the starting screen of the s1 games.

but i definitely vote for max.

someone also mentioned a plush desoto... hmm, if the car will be available as merchandise i would prefer it to be more solid, like die-cast or injection plastic.

Christovsky
09/06/2007, 06:36 pm
I confess I'm not sure I'd bother buying plush toys, but I can see a Max working well. Sam could be a bit harder to pull off because he's much more anthropomorphic.

If it were to be done, definitely it should be done through collaboration with a company that makes quality plush toys already.

The phoenix Wright plush is commin out in the US as a form of a preorder, why not go with the flow and make Sam and Max plushes?

That way, I can have the Phoenix Wright plush(if I plan to preoder the third AA game) defend a Max plush (if you guys make one,) who was framed by my Pikachu plush for murder.

djoftheweb
09/13/2007, 02:43 pm
ah, crap. NOW they tell me about the Phoenix Wright plush toy AFTER I import the japanese version!

but on the preorder idea, I'd definitely preorder the game for a max plush.
even though I would preorder no mater what..

I think they have gotten the point by now and if there will be an economically reasonable way to have some plush toys produced, they probably will. That's what they usually do. Remeber the Season 1 DVD Cover print? Everybody wanted it and they made it. Plush toys just may be a bit different from that, more difficult, since I can't imagine they have a tailor working at their office.

Dearest Telltale Games,

Sam & Max are hilarious. Steve Purcell is a genius. You are amazing at taking his idea beyond what he probably hoped for.

You have a cult following. This already-large community is going to get much much MUCH bigger, now that you've made Sam & Max Episode 104 free. I'll admit, I was looking at the games awhile back, but wasn't actually pulled in until I played a bit of said episode. I bought the season instantly, and am tempted to buy at least the soundtrack.

Please, tempt me more into spending more of my hard-earned dough on you guys. Sam plushie. Max plushie. Max life-size plushie. Desoto model with Sam & Max figurines (possibly removable/posable). Rearview-mirror dangling Hypnobear. Bobblehead Hypnobear. Possibly, around Halloween, release Hypnobear heads. Sam and Max poseable figurines with big gun, and possibly a few other accessories. etc.

I haven't played the second half of Season 1 yet (or started Season 2... I'm playing in order! Because I must!), so I have no clue if anything else would be good as a toy of some sort.

Release all of this soon, and even more people will buy them (Christmas is very soon, you know). Sure, you can't produce them that quickly (sadly), but you can try.

Thanks.

Effigy Mound has some interesting toy designs I just found. One is a Sam & Max figurine set (a la Todd MacFarlen) where it is Sam holding Max in a headlock on the steps to their office. The box they were in appears to be an illustration of the surrounding environment.

Then there's the Max-in-a-Box... I liked the panel where the crank handle is, but I can see why that won't be made into an actual product.:D

Most of the Telltale staff would like Sam & Max toys as well. The problem is that I'm not sure their company would have anything to do with that. Just as the Bone toys are manufactured by a different company, Sam & Max would probably have to do the same.

I'm not Hugh Bliss!).

Despite being deep in debt from my college education, I'd sell my internal organs just to have one, if not all of these lovable characters adorn my room!

I don't think they were plush toys so much as they were action figures. I like the Max-in-a-box, however.

Go to Build-a-Bear and buy one of those Customized Voice Boxes. When you get one, you can record any audio you want and before they stuff it in the bear, they remove a protective plastic tab that prevents re-recording.

Then, all you need to do is gut the poor thing. :D

This thread tears me in several little pieces.

First, let me say that as a naroow-minded individual, I believe plush toys are for girls and gays. However, I have nothing against gays, and most certainly not against girls. Still, wanting to own one - or two - will make me a bit queer, which I'm not, but not having one if they're for sale will feel wrong, just when it should feel right.

Wait, I've got it. Disregard the above. When they come out, I'll purchase them for my sister. Yeah, that's it.

On the other hand, having cute plushies on your bed might prove an advantage when you bring a girl to your place. Even if the bed is in a state of complete disarray, just like the rest of the house. Unless they prove TOO cute, which may cause a distraction on the girl's part, and no fun for the night quickly ensues.

What to do?

Ah, doggone it... just bring 'em in.

I need another Jack Daniel's...

Cheers!

I'm not gay, nor am a girl. I still want plushies, same with many other people that don't care about stereotypical media created words. Plushies are awesome especially when they are off your favorite characters (*cough*Companion Cube*cough). Its like collecting action figures, they are there to show your support and love.

The reason I don't think a plush Sam & Max will happen is because Steve would never consent to it. It would turn Max into a hello-kitty icon. I'm not 100% sure but I think Steve is against commercial whore-ism.

I would personally prefer a statue to a plushie. Statues allow for much more artistic detail, whereas plushies tend to look bloated and, well, not as detailed. However, those statues are going to be expensive. :(
That said, I'd still buy a Max plushie. :)

It's awesome that you framed the fold-out poster from the Adventure Company box. I wanted that to be printed on the roughest, yellowest paper that the Adventure Company felt comfortable using, since I knew it would always have a bunch of crease lines. I was hoping that it would more-quickly take on the look of a rough old worn movie poster if they printed it on something other than the stupid white glossy paper they use for advertising-laden school book wraps and fold-outs from Disney Magazine and that kind of crap. Anyway, seeing that poster on your wall makes me happy because it looks exactly how I hoped it would - making the best of a somewhat stupid situation.

Awesome. But yeah it will definitely always have crease lines. That's part of the reason I was thinking of just taking that one out of that frame and putting in the street poster which I hope to grab on Sunday. But I suppose I could just get another frame and make some more room on the wall. ;) I do plan on permanently displaying the Max doll on that shelf so I suppose it wouldn't hurt to put up more S&M art around him.

I've heard of someone using an iron to get rid of creases on posters. I haven't dared tried it but if you can find the paper that was used you could do some test samples on blank paper (if successful you could make a small insert in the instruction manual for the release of Season 2 if it also comes with a poster). I'm guessing you'd use a mildly warm iron, no steam - and just take your time

Close. A warm iron and then you want to sandwich the poster between some matte boards. I think two-ply is thick enough, but if that doesn't make you comfortable, see if you can find four-ply. After that, all you need to do is just iron the creases out like you would a pants, but like you said, no steam.

It's what the photo lab at my school does to get rid of the curling edges from their photographs. I've used it as well when I accidently crease those curling edges putting the photos away in my folder, so I know it works.

When I pine for a Sam & Max doll, I too break out the paper bag puppet. Glad to see I'm not the only one who made it.

I did once make my own plushie - when I was really into Invader Zim I somehow crafted a Gir plushie, which I'm still proud of considering that Gir's physiology seems physically improbable. I'd do the same thing with Max, but there's no fuzzy white fabric anywhere around here... and yes, he MUST be fuzzy. No cut-up old-massive-scratchy-white camp t-shirt lagamorph plushies for me.

Yeah, there's a couple of stuffie houses out there that do manufacturing for comics/comics related merchandising. My friends Mel and James who do Two Lumps got stuffies made, and they're a teeny little (hysterically funny) comix team.

When I was publishing comics back in the early 90's we got approached by a lot of toy houses when we did shows like San Diego and Dragon, but all of out titles were "mature audience", and comic retailers were already catching flack at that period for carrying books like ours, (the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund had to defend a retailer for selling one of my books) and we didn't have any iconic characters like Sam and Max, so it wouldn't have made any real business sense.

But Sam and Max are iconic, they have a pretty big fan base, and it sure seems like there's enough of us willing to pony up (heck, I'll preorder), that Telltale could meet the minimums for most of the toy houses that do this sort of merchandising.

(I'm voting for a Desoto with the characters in)

YES! I want to see S+M plushies, with max's secret pocket where he keeps his luger! (and heck have sam have his gun in it's holster too, but max's funnier!)

I'd like to see some S+M merchandise with unique uses too... no I dont mean naughty adult uses, get your head out of the gutter... I remember, for isntance from a notehr series, a certain empty-headed robot character (who was the "servant" of his inept alien master wanting to take over the world) that had a merchandice made where his head was a cookie jar. That kind of thing, unusual yet somehow logical in the scheme of the series.

On original topic, Yes! I want a set for home and another smaller set to put in my car window(s)!

I want a Max plush that turns inside-out, like a Popple! No reason.

I'd rather not see what Max's insides look like. Could be truamatizing.

Yes, a Bosco with strap-on cow body! Life size! That would be a conversation starter.

They should do a toy Desoto too, maybe even into a scaletrix (sp?)!

I think the toy desoto wouldn't go well in plush...

Though I love the idea of a bosco with a strap-on boscow outfit. (though my favorite was mamma bosco + superball, "wow he's so polite even when he's chewing you out, it's creepy!" lol

I didn't mean it as a plush, just a toy car
