if Carley was a nerd and Doug was a crack shot and had a gun, would you have saved different people in your first game?
Edit:
i was thinking about a sort of personality swap but more as a background to the reason why they have the skills they have, they would still have the same family and history but have swapped careerer paths
Doug would know your secret he is the reporter and he saves you with his gun, Carley would programme the remote etc.

Yeah, of course. I only chose Carley because she had a gun. I'm pretty sure I'd do the same for Doug, too.

I don't know. That's a good question. I honestly saved Carley b/c I liked her better. It had nothing to do with utility.
If their personality switched too then maybe.

Nope. It still would have been Carley. My decision has always been based on the 'women & children first' rule.

her personality would be the same?, and who would know our secret? Carley or Doug?and who saves us from Zombies?

I don't really see this question as very valid. Why I saved Carley had little to do with her being a crack shot. The reasons why I attached to Carley was because she was the one who ran out to save my group when we first came to Macon, she saved me from the walker in the bathroom, she established herself as trustworthy early on with Lee's secret, she showed empathy towards Clementine along with the group and she was with me every step of saving Irene even though it was not her choice.
I think you need to rephrase the question/answers or add a couple other options. The current options are just making an assumption that is counter productive.

I loved Carley because of her personality, but IF was Doug who saved me at first, trust me and has her personality, he was my brother and I would save him.

Honestly, at the time of choosing in Episode 1, I solely picked Carley because she could shoot.
I wasn't interested in a romance with her or her personality (she actually seemed a bit of a bitch confronting me in the back office) I simply picked her because she'd be more of an asset.
If it was Doug with the gun, he would definitely have been brought along for the ride instead.

Yeah, I'd save Doug instead of Carley if he was the crack shot, assuming he becomes the one that saves Lee's group when they first arrive in Macon. Otherwise, it could still depend on how the episode plays out, but if I don't owe either for saving me then I'm picking the better shot.

tbh, first time I've played (and only time, so far), I didn't realise I couldn't save both. I thought if I was quick enough or something, I could toss Carley her bag, grab Doug, and Carley could help shoot zombies around Doug.
So now I know I can't, I don't know. After knowing this stuff, I would have likely chosen carley, because she can shoot. (without using reasons further in the game)

Hard to say, neither quality came to mind when I went to save Doug. I saved Doug because he seemed like a good person while Carley annoyed me every time we talked. If it was a full personality swap, then yes it would be Carley... and incredibally similar to one of the late decisions in Mass Effect 1...
Nope. Reason I saved Doug is because of his situation at the choice moment. If it was Carley that blocked the 4 walkers from coming inside with her spine and Doug was the one who couldn't get a single zombie off his foot I would have saved Carley.

To me, Carley was already kind of "nerdy," but everyone has a different take on what being a nerd is.
If TWD was a puzzle heavy game, then I'd have picked Doug. That bit he did with the remote and the TV store across the street in Macon would have sold me. Since it isn't, I chose Carley and would do it again.
To be honest, it's almost like TTG wants you to pick Carley. What do you see of Doug's personality before making a choice, except for the brief exchange outside of the drugstore?

You know, I don't think I read your edit in my initial choice, because I was opperating under the assumption that they'd do the same thing in game - but have different base roles. (i.e. Carley the nerd would know you and show you trust, etc)
But.... if this isn't the case.
My answer....... stays the same.
Doug would have earned some trust, but... Nerd Girls are hot. So, I'd have actual hormonal incentive to save Carley. Where Rambo-Reporter Carley got saved because she was good with a gun and showed Lee some trust.
Snake Liquid
12/02/2012, 03:30 pm
I would. The reason I chose Carley was you had far more interactions with her during the first episode, enough to see she can handle herself very well in tense situations. She saved your life on more than one occasion in one episode (charging out into the street to rescue Duck and the whole group, and shot the walker you were grappling after saving Clem), and she goes on an entire mission with you to the motel to rescue Glenn.
Doug... well... he was there and he was alive. That's literally all I knew about him. He did a good job getting those TV's on to distract the walkers so I could get the keys but that is literally all he did in the first episode.
Besides, in the situation, Carley looked like she was in far more distress than Doug anyway. Carley had a walker grabbing her ankle and more coming through the hole toward her with no way to defend herself. Doug had a walker arm reaching in through some boards to grab his chest, which in reality he could have easily gotten away from. It sucked one of them had to die, but in the situation we were given, I will always save Carley and never will get to experience what Doug has to offer.
I didn't save Doug because Carley proved she was far more equipped for the apocalypse than he was. If roles had been reversed and I'd gone on a mission with Doug, he'd saved me and he proved he was a capable guy, I'd have saved him instead.

Yea I was based the choice on usefulness, so if Doug had been more useful with the gun, it would have been him to come with me. I figured the kid and I would have a better chance of survival with someone who knew how to shoot, as opposed to a person who could reprogram a tv remote. How often would that skill be useful? Not to say the door alarm at the inn wasn't useful...but when walkers have already breached the gates or bandits...then I'd just listen for the screams or gunshots to determine there was trouble. Didn't need a bell to tell me there was a problem.

the question could as well be, why did you choose carley, hormones or other reasons
reasons for saving carley (at this point of time, knowing that one must die, in my personal order):
-saves you twice
-i like her because of her character traits (or because i know more about here)
-good shot (though you can still use her gun if she dies)
-attractive
-women need protection
if you swap personality, skills and plot with doug then all that's left are the last two points. so then i'd save doug. if you only take out the good shot point i would still save carley

I think the biggest reason why people chose Carley over Doug is one the gun.
And two the amount of interaction you have with carley.
There is the scene in the office where she tells you she knows his secret and that she won't tell any one. The battery scene and the broadcast that follows. Then she comes on the motel mission with you. She also saves your life.
Doug turned on tvs for me. Then yelled at me to hurry up.

I'd probably save Doug at first if he had the gun, but after Episode 3, if Carley had still been the one to know about Lee's past, I'd save her in all other replays. Being able to tell people Lee's secret before Lilly does pretty much closes the deal for me. If Doug had the gun AND allowed me to tell my secret, Carley wouldn't stand a chance.

Most people would still save her because "OMG WOMAN LEE MIGHT BANG!"
I think, if Doug had just had THE ONE zombie on his ankle he could have stomped on (because Lee does this several times himself) and Carly was being grabbed by several zombies, I'd have gone for her. In the game of course I saved Doug for this reason.

I saved Carley because we had more interactions with her. I couldn't even give Doug an energy bar. lol. Also, she helped Lee and Glenn at the motel. And Carley saved Lee more than Doug in episode 1. Also, I saved Carley because there wouldn't be many female characters if I saved Doug and I wanted to even it out. However, I do like Doug when I did another play through with him. They're both my favorite characters. But in the end, I would still pick Carley.

Chose Doug the first time, but it was hard and had to pause. Almost went with Carley but I figured Doug's smarts might end up being more useful then Carley, to bad it wasn't really focused on much. If reversed I would choose Carley for sure, already was on the fence but if she was smarter then for sure. Question, in this scenario does Doug know your past this time?

Most people saved her because she was pretty. Most people that said they saved her because she was a crack shot is lying. The crack shot thing was just a bonus.
She's a female and possible romance option. I might as well say what every other guy won't.
You really think all the outrage at Carley's death was because she was a crack shot? C'mon, now.

It was a big thing for me. In all her lifetime(that we've seen) she never misses. Headshot, headshot, headshot, not a single bullet hit anything other than the head(she probably didn't shoot to kill Andy on purpose). That is pretty damn useful in a zombie apocalypse.

I saved Carley the first time, and I think I'd save her again even if these things were different. I took almost as much time as the game allowed to make the decision, going back and forth between the two of them. And if I remember correctly, their skills never once popped into my head. I'm pretty sure I saved Carley because she's cute. Maybe if it had been Doug who knew my secret and showed me some sympathy, who said he didn't care about my past, and who came along to the motor inn and proved himself, I'd have saved him. But honestly, even with all that, I think I still would have saved Carley. Because she's cute, and for no other reason.

I was wondering that too. TellTale Games better not be surprised most people chose Carly over Doug. On one side you have the nerdy chubby boy you can't really talk to vs the good-shot cute chick you can have a conversation with and take with you on a rescue mission. Should anyone be surprised Carly was chosen most of the time? No contest.
Me I actually chose Doug because he seemed to be in far greater trouble, but just saying someone said TTG must see how many people saved Doug and become discouraged they put in so much effort for two choices when most only see one. I say well that should've been obvious 9/10 people would save the hot useful girl with a personality over the lumpy quiet nerdy guy (though he ended up being pretty funny later on).

For me, on my first playthrough, I loved both personalities, Doug's slightly more, but felt inclined towards Carly because she was a great shot, she had a gun, and I felt I could trust her since she hadn't told anyone the truth about me. If Carly was a nerd on top of that, even with Doug being a good shot, I think I'd roll with Carly. I do love Doug, though. That shirt...gah.
