[Walking Dead] Choices never saved

Ever since I picked this game up a few months ago, it's had this issue that whenever I go to play a new episode (or even replay an old one) it doesn't seem to actually read my save files, and always wants to randomly generate choices for me. This means any attempt I make to stick to a cohesive story with my character gets flushed down the toilet, and it's more than a little frustrating, unfortunately. I have more than one save file, and they all do this.

As soon as I load the game, it asks me if I want to randomly generate choices for skipped content, and if I say no, it just boots me back to the main screen. If I say yes, it loads random choices and away I go.

What do I need to do to get it to actually save my game?

Edit: Additional information is that I play the PC version, and have had this issue since episode 1 way back when, and it continues to do this every time a new episode comes out.

Do you play on Steam or the TTG installed version?

If TTG, can you please check your Documents\Telltale Games folder to see if you have a Gamedata folder and a Walking Dead folder? If so, your save games are probably being stored in one folder and your game content in the other. The Walking Dead folder is the standard directory for both, so please remove the Gamedata folder from your computer.

Alternatively, if you have Steam, check your Steam directory in steamapps\common\the walking dead to see if you have a prefs.prop file here. If so, please delete that file.

Now restart your game and see if you are able to save your progress. If not, you may need to uninstall the game and remove all traces of it from your system and the reinstall.
