rudy,
Back in 2003, several of us were talking about how the CSI games could be improved. BallisticsBabe had the idea of players making up their own crimes that would be sent to other players. That would require the usage of File Transfer Protocol and a specific site to which everyone would go. Possibly even the the usage of an intranet cord. Memphis911 came up with the idea of some sort of multiplayer function, where a "host" would create a "campaign" of crimes and players would have to work together to solve them.

Hey Posiedon -
We love the idea of allowing users to make-your-own crime, but it turns out there are many legal problems with doing this. (Licensing issues)
For example, if users are allowed to construct their own CSI cases and others can play them, then CBS does a similar crime for one of the CSI shows, then there's all kind of legal ramifications even if the CBS folks never saw the case that was made.
Even the stories we write for the game have to through a strict approval process. If thousands or hundreds of people are allowed to write stories then there's no way for them to keep control over the license.
Another reason why licensing deptartments exist - so that they can keep tighter control over what goes out with their name on it!
There's more to it than that, but that's all I have time for at the mo! Hope it makes sense! 8)

The multiplayer angle is an interesting idea. Particularly nowadays when you can do voice chat, etc. during a game. I'll pass that idea along to ubisoft, in case they do another CSI game.

Greg,
Remember these ideas were discussed way back in 2003, just after the first CSI game came out and there was a lot of discontent with the the first ten cases given. Things have progressesd greatly since then.
P.S.
I thought Ubisoft was under contract with Telltale....?

A new CSI gamer named MaxineValera is complaining that certain items in CSI3DoM are too shiny white for her, i.e., the car and the fridge.

true that
a new csi miami game or the start of a ny game would be great!
is it possible for in next titles game for the systems to include like a headset and kinda say ur own questions instead of the whole point and click questions
and wut if u could actually drive the mobile analysis for a change like just in a case or 2.
that would be really kool.
and like CSI-Gamer said it would be great to have alot more suspects and locations available
wut if there were more than 5 cases? dont u think it would provide more gameplay and better usage for the analysis unit:) just wonderin

i really like the idea of creating your own crimes. i also think that it would be good great to have more suspects to interogate.
there was a episode of csi las vegas in which hodges designed a csi game i really enjoyed this episode and i think it is an idea would be possible to realise
The only thing I felt slightly disappointed by was the fact you find eveidence and you examine the evidence but you don't interpret the evidence. When you're done with an important piece of evidence that drives the story forward your partner will say "Aha! That implies such and such.". I'd like to see more interactivity there somehow.
Perhaps you could make use of the case file, maybe you have some templates similar to the "evidence triangle" that you drag and drop evidence into to come up with different theories? Dunno, that might get tedious actually.
Either way, if Telltale ends up making another CSI game I think you should experiment with adding a new game mechanic interpreting the evidence. If you come up with something that's fun and adds to the game that's great, if not well I still really enjoyed the last game :-)

Hmm...
Never really thought about that but it would be very nice :)

nice idea neon! that would greatly improve the game. because sometimes it is a bit sterile i think
Poseidon
03/02/2008, 07:05 pm
rudy, Gresman, there should be at least double the caseload, if not triple!
Gresman
03/02/2008, 09:19 pm
i think that would be sorta of overkill. a few cases more ok but 200% more is brutal. you have to think about the additional workload for the designers and so
Poseidon
03/05/2008, 07:52 pm
Gresman,
The total amount of cases per game at all times is 5 . I f you triple that you have fifteen . I doubt that would be brutal.
Gresman
03/06/2008, 11:35 pm
i asume that you dont want too much repetition in those cases character and enviromentlike
that means that you have to create lets say 7 characters per case and ets say 3 enviroments
thats quite some work to do
Gresman,
The total amount of cases per game at all times is 5 . I f you triple that you have fifteen . I doubt that would be brutal.
Besides tripling the workload you mean.

I also think there should be two different murders to solve in each case, to make it more like the show, and you can switch between murders as you want.
Gresman
03/23/2008, 03:12 am
so you want ten cases but presented in pairs of two, is this correct???
That might not be a bad idea. I always think it's good to be able to go and do something else for a bit if you get stuck, it eases frustration. Although you'd have to cut down the number of cases overall in order to keep up the quality.

ever played the game condemned: criminal origins?
what if csi takes on a whole new level just like that?
u go to a crime scene and use special forensic tools to get the evidence and then go to the lab and process it. then, in certain points in the game, there can be criminals or junkies at a crime scene and u can use a taser or even a handgun to take them out and handcuff them. its just an idea i dont know
wut do u think?
CSI-gamer
03/25/2008, 05:47 am
Ye i played Condemned and it would be a nice idea but then there would still be litlle number of cases
Gresman
03/26/2008, 06:53 am
okay let me get this straight you want more casses and more cases per case???
that means 15 cases with 3 cases each which equals 45 cases!!!! Thats crazy!!!
rudyst your idea is nice but it is basicly a csi game but you have to taser uninvolved persons or persons who did not anything to deserve such a treatment. why tase or shoot someone if you can just ask
To be fair rudyst1 never said she/he wanted all of his/her ideas to be integrated into the game.
I've not played condemned: criminal origins, but I looked at some gameplay videos and I have to say it's not my sort of thing. The audience for a CSI game is a very different one (read: casual) to that of condemned. Of course as I say this is based on videos I found on youtube, I've never played the game myself.

neon what you said is absolutly correct but i wanted to point out that some of the ideas arenot really practical for development and/or have a positive influence on the style of game
Yeah I know how it was meant, I just worry that it might seem like we're ganging up on rudyst1. Especially on a forum where you can't really discern someones tone of voice etc, things can come across as sounding like a personal attack even when they're not.

What I would like is better replay value. One way to do that is the possibility of arresting the wrong suspect by wrong interpretation of the evidence or by not having investigated all possible angles of the case (or collected all the evidence).
Another idea that came to me after playing Hard Evidence and 3 Dimensions of Murder again, the ability to make more photographs (not restricted to certain moments and situations). Someone else said they wanted more involvement in interpreting the evidence; maybe a place where you can jot down your own thoughts and findings (like a personal journal), maybe incorporate the photos there.
Just some thoughts to make a brilliant series of games even better.
I think that's spot on there amnesio. I can't remember if it was in 3 Dimensions but I thought the case file in Hard Evidence could have played a larger role, similar to what you are suggesting. I'm not exactly sure how one could incorporate it so that it works and is fun, but I really think it would improve the game if the developers can find a way.
Oddly enough I thought the exact same thing after I played the Blade Runner game.

Oh boy, this got me a great idea (that will be rejected).
Why not play AS the criminals as you try to avoid getting caught by the CSI? You can of course try to stop the subtle clues from being revealed by the CSI, argue against the CSI's evidence they did collect to you as "somewhat faulty, therefore you gotta acquit me"...or, best of all, bribe one of the CSI agents in order to rule you out as the suspect!
It'd be cool! :D

I had some suggestions back in one of my posts in the CSI Wiki:
This is it:
1.Control and switch between 6 players-3 CSIs per case (everyone with his/her own field of specialty),Hodges (Analyses evidence),Captain Brass (interrogates and has his own field of specialty when it comes to investigating a scene) and Doc. Al. Robins (does autopsy and investigates the body at the scene)
2.Full copy of the original crime lab with many different laboratories-Not only the trace lab and the garage like in the previous games !!!Every lab has different machines which can analyse different pieces of evidence
3.Interactive evidence collection-The tools are being handled by you.For example when you have found blood, you click on the water vial and drag it on the swab. Then you click at the swab and drag it on the blood stain until you have collected enough DNA for analysis
4.New Evaluation-The CSI Team regroups at the Break Room and their leader comments on how well they did on the case. What matters is:1.The number of evidence collected,2.How many correct speech options were chosen,3.How many times you clicked "Confirm Match" while being wrong,4.Analyses finished
5.Speech Options-No click on the only speech option anymore. There are 3 speech options for every question and when you are wrong the suspect's patience level lowers and you have to restart the interview/interrogation when you are wrong
6.Puzzles-Like CSI:NY the game!!! As long as they are logical
7.3D Graphics-Do I need to say anything else ?
8.Freeroam in:the Homicide Department and the Crime Lab but not in the morgue. It should remain point and click like the crime scenes
9.Cinematics/Movies:We need more and we want them more photorealistic
10.Achievements if connected to Windows Live! or XBOX Live!
11.Chases now and then-Well at least 1/case

Well about the multi-player
you could do this:
Have a number of default objects and you could release a custom scene creator...it could work in Single Player too...or you could upload them and download others...
And won't some disclaimer about all resemblances are random be enough with the licensing ?

Make it an episode like game, where you get some new cases.
Plus i´m in to the idéer of more questioning of the suspects. They should have better hints. when you ask for a hint you could get some advice of where to search for the next qlue.
