Woo! The first info for the next Sam & Max episode is starting to trickle out. The episode? "Moai Better Blues!" The official announcement, plot synopsis, screens, etc etc will be going up tomorrow, but 1up and GameVideos asked to get a sneak peak so we sent them the trailer a day early.

It shows some locations, but it's such an awesome trailer it's inhuman to pass up. It's a spring break infomercial spoof and it's hilarious. I love the combining items joke

There aren't any plot spoilers other than what you'd learn from a one sentence synopsis of the episode, plus 3D versions of the episode 202 concept art we put out back during the summer. If you're never planning on looking at a screenshot or watching a video from the episode, then obviously the trailer will have some spoilery stuff, but it's probably less spoilery than most press previews, or extended gameplay videos, will be. Hopefully that helps you gauge. :)

Well, since it's not, I might as well let you in on my train of logic...

1. It's an island setting.
2. Both Sam and Max have surfing stance animations in their animation sets.
3. There's that WipeOut baby ride in the concept art and in the preview.

As far as the original minitgam ebeing impossible to figure out, I thought it was pretty straight forward.

You control Max and you have to jump over the highway signs.
The more signs you jump/bounce over, the better your score at the end of the run.
The more signs you crash into, the more time you lose during the level's run.
Run out of time/run into too many signs, and it is game over.
Make it through a level, and you get a bonus headstart based on how much time you had left from not hitting any signs.
Each level only lasted a minute (minus the headstart time), and each level had an increasing number of highway signs you had to avoid.

I figured it out by just observing the GUI that was at the top of the screen. Every time I crashed into a sign, I noticed a big chunk of the Time bar would disappear. That's how I figured out what to do.

But I do agree with you. The game was kind of backwards given Max's love for destruction. That's kind of why I was looking forward to a remake of it for Season 2 in one episode that involves Max Highway Surfing for one reason or another.

You know, I've only seen the last two, and the reused plot is amazing. COD4 doesn't have a massive story that Halo tries to do (even though it fails miserably), and yet it's still much more emotionally impacting than Halo. Bungie are just terrible terrible storytellers.

When the twist hits in BioShock, you go "Hooooooly fuck" but in Halo when you destroy Audrey III, you just go "hrm that was neat".

As for the Bourne movies thing, even though I watched the first two I honestly cannot remember a single thing from either of them except for the shotgun fight against Clive Owen in the first.

You can't play it with the buttons, but the stylus-based gameplay is a lot more intuitive than people seem to expect. It's like a point-and-click adventure, but faster-paced. It plays really, really well. Borrow it from someone if you don't believe me.

No D-Pad controls in Phantom Hourglass at all, I'm afraid =/.
I found it a pain in the neck hand too, no matter what everyone else says.

EDIT: It's great for drawing on the maps and using weapons and things, but I can't help but feel it'd be a lot easier to control Link the traditional way. Plus my hand gets cramp a lot quicker using the stylus.

No matter what everyone else says? Heh. I had no problem with the Zelda controls at all. They're actually surprisingly fluid and intuitive. (It controls just like Animal Crossing on the DS, if you've played that.) It's definitely a change from the regular classic Zelda controls, but it made things feel nice and fresh to me... I wasn't just playing Link to the Past with new dungeons.

Just loaded up the game (yay), but unfortunately, I've already noticed two heartbreaking things. Why isn't 1680x1050 resolution available anymore, and for some reason bumper stickers haven't carried over either. Do things that you've unlocked from the last game not carry over if you have Gametap?

(missing subtitle facial icons, missing music on the island, odd dialogue that seems out of place when you talk to max, the phone and answering machine in the office are broken... just to name a few problems) and yeah... the 201 stuff does not carry over properly as well

I cannot really get into details about this, but what your mentioning, seems to me like the earlier build of 202 that was put up for testers (On gametap) back in November/December. It was reactivated last week with the same build. What you are describing were several of the issues of that build, but what is odd is that shouldn't be released to the general public.

Even if they work I wouldn't recommend using them, because I know from experience that saves made in beta versions lead to weird problems in release versions (due to bugs that existed when the save was made and were fixed by the time the final build came out).

I've been told that GameTap will provide instructions for how to clear out old saves when the new version is up.

In a way it is the first of its kind, in the area of a monthly fee giving you a large quantity of games. Though in the area of digital distribution, there are others that have done it, Steam being the most prominent of them.

Yeah, but GameTap is the first to offer legal emulation of a wide range of platforms through unique middleware. Whereas Steam only offers PC titles, and the middleware is similar to ones used in the past. (Don't know if it uses a virtual drive like GT does)

EDIT: i just got a reply on the gametap forum... they are still having trouble getting the right version up, they will have more info in the AM....

well i guess this will truely be a worldwide launch then... as no one really saw the game today, and everyone is getting it for the first time tomorrow, and if the TT people get it before us i am going to be just a little steamed, (being as i did not buy the season set this year... vista cant read the combo disc from the 1st season on disc, so i dont see the point of it this year)

Not to get off topic, but the Season One DVD should be fully Vista compatible. I'm not sure if you've posted about this in the support forum already, but if not, please do.

If the Season One DVD is not compatible with Vista, then just have it for a snack. DVDs are good dipped in honey mustard!

Episode 2 works fine on gametap now and I just finished it, some of those puzzle were damn inventive =), I like the new level of challenge thats coming this season.

I tried it in the morning and it worked alright although there were some odd events and things that changed. I didn't get stuck anywhere, but I didn't have time to finish it then as I had to go to a couple classes today. After the real version was patched in it worked 100%, I'm guessing it was just an earlier build with some bugs still in it. And just clicking "update" wont work, click the delete trashcan and then install it again.

Because the bastard of sun does not flood everywhere in the world at the same time, USA decided during the reign of idontrememberwho that they would not work during darklight, hence they decided to secretly rewind their clockworks and make as if the daytime was happening roughly during daylight.

This had the consequence of closing offices while at the same time (!!!) it was daylight in europe. Outrage, and despair cries from overseas were not affecting the tyrannic idontrememberwho and things were kept that way for the billion years.

Yep, that's right, idontrememberwho created jetlag as well, bastard.

anyway, wait until telltalegames employees wake up, take the coffee, prepare the good stuff and send the mails. IIRC they are located on the west coast, that should be roughly 9 hours shift from where you are, i guess the game should arrive by 19:00 NL time (i hope so).

they now have personal anthapthy annulments installed on everyones computer.. so they know when the user is in high anticipation, whenever the the user base is so hyped up that it is ready to explode and split the world into 3 semi-equal pieces, and send most of California hurling into the moon... this is when they finally hit "Da Button"

the button is shrouded in mystery... it seems to have come from some far away galaxy, where exitstance is shredded into 149 (or is it 250, i forget) cosmic planes all hurling together in some some form of blackened goo all swirling in a miasma of absolute universe shredding power [pause to catch breath] ... [/pause to catch breath]

the button was found in the telltale bathroom many eons ago after the first of many walls knocked down in the office... this angered the system and it fired "Da Button" at them (apparently with great accuracy through the S.F. sewer complex, which as we all know, must make this an act of god) onto the forhead of the king kahuna (whos identity has been lost to history) it has been passed down though the generations for the past 4 years... and now rests deep within the bowels of telltale (i believe dan conners keeps it on his window sill and it has kinda faded to more of a purple color from being bleached by the direct sunlight)

this button has absolute power... because when pushed, the order of the world is shattered for exactly 72 hours... and it must be pushed frequently as called forth by the king kahuna those many years ago, but not so much as to tear the fabric of the universe asunder... ironically the push of this button made of evil jelly like goo releases a shiny new sam and max episode, which is also kinda gooey (it also produces some ear shattering howl, turns the sky green, and a huge sink hole leading to hell also forms somewhere in the australian wilderness for those 72 hours .. but who cares about that part)

pushing that button is dangerous... and must be done with a stick, the telltale staff are very good at what they do... this is a delicate ritual that CANNOT BE RUSHED... the fate of the universe rests on them pushing that button with oh so much sweet, sweet lovin' (they use the love they have collected from us, i think emily keeps it in a jar in the back of the office fridge, next to a beef burrito that has been back there since the first sam and max episode) and they must also must render an intern *erm* i mean a "sacrifice" to appease the button, oh and for those of you who liked nick.. sorry he has been gone for months, they killed him to release reality 2.0, thats just doug who heartlessly poses as him on this forum

when done properly a huge inter-semdimentional portal forms near the water cooler (enveloping the entire intern bullpen, this is where the sacrifice is needed, to jam up the portal and keep it from spreading) and most of the time it will envelop jake's desk as well (but it don't ever seem interested in him, he must not be "intern-ish" enough for the portal) it just likes to mess up all his papers for fun, and coat his desk in ecto plasm (and cause he is the only web personality i have yet to mention)

after everyone is done screaming and running around... they finally muster up the courage to contain the beast with spears, swords, and liquid nitrogen (bullets dont hurt it, so they have to go high tech), and bind it in a wicker cage

they then ship it off to DRM, wash the blood off the walls, start searching for new interns, send a few thousand email alerts, figure out how to get randy to stop cowering under his desk and then continue working on the next episode....

so for the next person who asks "where is the episode" refer them to this post.... or even quote it 500 times and overload the forum, thats always fun too

Yeah, but GameTap is the first to offer legal emulation of a wide range of platforms through unique middleware. Whereas Steam only offers PC titles, and the middleware is similar to ones used in the past. (Don't know if it uses a virtual drive like GT does)

Thats true, I didn't really think about that. I'm more impartial towards pc games than console though...

Have you though about deep frying it, it works quite well with cell phones :D

On the other hand, I can't resist the allure of not having to worry about system specs and incompatibilities.
