I mean it is a zombie story, happy endings aren't exactly known. Not to mention it's Walking Dead, a series known for it's blunt approach to killing characters regardless.

Attachment to the character?
Though I fully expected him to go, doesn't mean I wanted him to die. I liked him as a character, and would have liked to play him more.

People were mad because of his death? Why? He hardly spoke anything and I thought it was obvious that he will die, from the first time he appeared. Okay, to be honest, I was surprised that he survived that long.
About the topic; I wasn't mad because of Lee, I liked the end of the game.

I wasn't mad. I was sad that a character I liked and was invested in died, but certainly not mad. I thought it was a great ending to that part of the story. Lee served his purpose. He protected Clem, rescued her and has taught her the baseline skills she's going to need to continue to survive in this world.
I just hope the protagonist for Season 2 can measure up to what we had with Lee.

That was the problem, no character development at all. He dies only to have another black guy replace him. It only makes it look like he was added to "diversify" the cast.

Wait....there was a black guy in The Walking Dead?

I wasn't mad I was upset because Lee was a great guy and even though some of your choose able decisions aren't great, doesn't make him a monster. He ending made me cry I had to turn my Xbox off and ran upstairs crying. That may sound extreme but my family was round out house and I didn't want to cry in front of them... Anyway!
People were probably mad at TTG for killing Lee off, but there was no way of survival. Even if you chose to cut Lee's arm off it was a pitiful attempt to save yourself. I have friends that are boys and they cried, I laughed at them but when I played it, I was super upset and I wanted to cry forever, little Clem's face and her trying to get Lee to get up, you could see him getting weaker and weaker and little Clem getting less determined that they were going to make it.
I am very interested to hear what your guys reactions were :)

I'm genuinely concerned about the long-term success of the Walking Dead franchise. The creeators seem to revel in the fact that any character can be killed at any time.
I don't care how good the series is (and I consider it to be the greatest thing ever), but you cannot sustain that with massive turnover of characters. People will just stop caring.

The entire time I was hoping he would make it.. But honestly the ending would not been nearly as good if he had.

There is no sacred cow, anybody can go, and that is AWESOME. It needs to be used carefully though, otherwise there won't be anyone left for the audience to connect with.

I don't know, they could've killed off everybody except for Lee and Clem, somehow they get the boat to the water, and they set off into a very uncertain future, that would've been interesting to me.

TL;DR: So he didn't die, yet. There's the answer to this thread.
I think nobody would have had an issue with Lee dying in another season, but he didn't even last as long as some annoying secondary character in the comic books! Just imagine Rick getting bit in the 4th comic and dying in the 5th and all the following episodes are all about his not-so-cool kid. That dies in issue #10 only to be replaced by somebody else, who ends up dead 5 issues later, only to be replaced by....I think you got the point. Would be kinda lame, wouldn't it?
While you can't really compare Rick and Lee, since it's way easier to get attached to the protagonist that you actually embody in a computer game, rather than identifying yourself with some dude in a comic or a TV series, you'd be pretty pissed too, if the author decides to kill the main character in a somewhat lame way. It's just way too obvious that they only sacrificed Lee in order to make the ending more emotional...and this is just dumb.
Lee was one of the most interesting and awesome characters in the past 10 years of video game protagonists and I think a lot of people would have loved him to survive fudgin' season 1. A shame TTG dumped him on the very first occasion, like sacrificing a lamb or a pawn only to force the story into an emotional ending. I don't know about you, but I am certainly not looking forward to playing a 9 years old girl in any episode whatsoever...or some random silhouette who happens to bump into her. Unless that silhouette is Lee Everett.

i think it would have been worse if it basically didn't have an ending and it was just a next season on TDW set up with lee and Clementine standing on a rooftop looking at the thousands of zombies surrounding them then credits, that would have made me mad not sad.
i cant think of a satisfying conclusion to the story that isn't either lee dying or such a happy ending it would be wrong
I wasn't too mad about anyone dying, except Kenny, ironically, because in my particular story, it felt really...weak, the way he went out. He didn't die heroically saving Ben (because I dropped that freakin' dead weight in the belltower, but I digress), so he "died" saving Christa, but because his death was off-camera, it felt a bit odd. Kenny has been there from the start, and through a lot of really rough stuff, so I was sad to see him go, but that itself was fine. It's just...the way he goes out in the Christa ending felt really hollow and pointless. I mean, getting chased into the dark by a bunch of zombies? It just felt really weird for some reason I am not able to articulate very well.

Like dying like a chump handcuffed to a radiator is a better death.

What's so odd about Lee surviving season one? Doesn't mean he's going to live forever and it doesn't have to be a happy ending with rainbows and unicorns, either. Rick Grimes didn't die yet and nobody is complaining about that, or am I wrong? I don't get why you folks are so obsessed with Lee ending up dead.
Can't a black guy survive one season, or what?
The Clementine cliffhanger is as retarded as any similar ending can be. Dunno why a happy ending or a cliffhanger with Lee and Clem would make you more mad than the current one.

I'm sad that Lee died because the relationship between him and Clem is now effectively over. They started the apocalypse together. It's just sad that he had to be killed off.

it wouldn't be an ending to me if it was a cliffhanger, it would be like the ending of episode 4, if the season had ended there would you be mad?
a happy ending would obviously be easier to accept but tears trump a smile for an ending so that would not have been as good as the ending we have

Frankly, I left the comics because of this reason. Kirkman is going to keep Rick alive for the longest period of time.

That's my point exactly. Yes, you can kill off all the characters all the time - but eventually, your audience will stop caring because your whole series becomes a series of disconnected narratives.
And, after all, unless you keep rewinding in time and starting at day 0, any living survivor has lasted the entire time, so it's not fair to say that everyone dies in a zombie apocalypse.
So, yes, you can kill off every character anytime you want, but you probably shouldn't.

I kinda like the fact that no-one is untouchable, but i don't want to see it being abused. It's like eating a shit load of cake, just because you can doesn't mean you should, otherwise you'll be sick of cake, and no-one wants to be sick of cake!
