Error accessing the system registry

Recieved the game on Christmas and have not been able to load it onto my laptop....
Recieve an error message; Error accessing the system registry
Followed by another error message; Unexpected error; quitting
I am running Windows Vista on a Gateway laptop.
Please Help

Hey Dmon, have you tried running the game as an administrator? It sounds like Window's security is preventing you from installing it on your current setting.

Funny thing is I am getting the simmular problem with steam itself maybe a new windows update is causing in issue. Also on vista but the x64 version.

I just bought this at Best Buy last night and I'm having the same problem. Luckily I found a workaround in another thread that seems to be working:

Annoying that this has been going on since it released in 2007, yet I can't find a patch anywhere so far.
