Sam and Max - voices sound a bit odd

I'm not sure if it's just my copy or not, but the voice acting in the games seems to be a bit distorted. I can understand what is being said ok, but the voices have a bit or static or distortion to them. Is this normal or should I start fiddling with drivers?

Due to audio compression, there is a bit of static in the voices from time to time. I'm afraid there isn't much that can be done about it unless the static is really bad, in which case it probably is a different problem.
