a. no real reason to code a Wii virus
b. no easy way to code a Wii virus because it uses proprietary software to run things that is not very easily hacked
c. no real way to get a virus on the Wii without the use of an SD card (or the Internet channel, but who really uses that for anything other than watching videos on the TV?)

And yeah. The "Virus Protection" is true for any console ever. It's not a special property of Nintendo systems, Nintendo systems aren't more "protected against viruses" than XBOXes, PS3s, or Dreamcasts.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Wii browser is set up in such a way as to not allow anything to really mess with the Wii. But if the weakest link WAS the browser, then I suppose Nintendo would have worse "virus protection" than the 360? ;)

Unfortunetley, SEGA stopped being awesome about 10 years ago. Never played a Bethesda game (none that interest me), I loved Rare when they worked with Nintendo, but I can only think of one thing whenever I see a trailer for Banjo-Kazooie 3. Barf! I loved Infocom's Hitchhiker's guide, never played funcom, I've only played a few Harmonix games, and Capcom rocks! Which brings us to Telltale. My first game I'll play by them is Sam and Max Wii.

I really highly doubt this.

Further, there was never a gaming crash. People had their PCs, people had arcades, the Commodore 64 was just as popular as any game system at the time.

Atari died. A bunch of companies pulled out of gaming because the arcades and the computers were the major market. The fact of the matter is, there was no crash. And it was just inevitable that, eventually, SOMEBODY was going to go and make a system that hooked up to your television set. Nintendo just happened to be the one to come along and decide they could do it.

But it was a given, it was a forgone conclusion.

Longest Journey/Dreamfall were great and all but Anarchy Online was pretty much a disaster... and from what I've heard, while they added some interesting gameplay elements, Age of Conan was also released incomplete and full of bugs. …I won't even get into their botched handling of the Dreamfall: LE online orders.

I hope that's sarcasim. I find it humorously ironic that your forum name is "stronggamer" and you apparently don't recognize huge, modern developers like Bethesda or incredible "cornerstone" game companies like Infocom (extra points to those who get the pun).

No matter what you think of them now, the fact of the matter is that most of the companies you listed wouldn't be around if it wasn't for Nintendo.While I admit I've lost quite a bit of respect for Nintendo after the SNES and the unending barrage of unoriginal Mario/Zelda/Metroid games... I still respect them; especially during that era. But you are giving them too much credit. The truth is, Nintendo had good timing. The PC craze started to slow a bit and the overwhelming amount of bad game companies were finally starting to back out of the industry. If it wasn't the NES that brought back video gaming, it would probably have been the Atari 7800 (eventually). ...though it may have taken more time for companies to risk the market.

Well, Capcom is mostly up there for recent things like Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Zack and Wiki, and Phoenix Wright.

Morrowind isn't quite old enough to be retro, I don't think.

And Guitar Hero and Rock Band aren't exactly retro.

Telltale is a relatively new company, their games can't really be called retro either.

...but other than that, well. Yeah. Pretty much. =p

EDIT: I suppose you can toss KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect from Bioware into the "not retro" pile. I like their old stuff too, don't get me wrong, but I love these new games as well.

i am not really here, since i pretend to ignore this thread....however, there is one thing i need to ask:
is it really two months? i don't think so. the original release schedule said june 2008, so technically a release on the last day of that month (30th) would still be no delay. then is got postponed to july 2008, meaning a release today (31st of july), would actually be a one month and one day delay. releasing it tomorrow would only be one day more. you see, according to my logic, it isn't that bad...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the game is not coming out tomorrow. :(

What IGN said is true - we have submitted the game to Nintendo, and as soon as we get approval from them, it will be released quickly after that. We really are in the home stretch. :D We've been waiting to announce a release date until we have that approval, though, because until that happens, well, anything can happen! Getting games into WiiWare is a new process for us and we're learning as we go, so I'm sorry if any of you are disappointed that tomorrow is the last Monday in July and you won't have a Strong Bad game to play. On the plus side, we're closer now than we've ever been, and very soon we should be able to tell you exactly when it's coming out!

Also, I'd like to preemptively say that contrary to some comments I've seen people making here and there, Nintendo has NOT been sitting on the game for months. We were still working on getting some bugs fixed until fairly recently. So please don't assume that they're some evil empire that's been hoarding the game since June because they don't want you to have it. Everyone we're working with at Nintendo wants the game to come out just as badly as we (and you!) do.

But the important thing to remember is... If you truely need this game that bad, why not go play some of the many Videlectrix games already out? I mean, I haven't played Peasant's Quest in a long time. And what about the many games that work on the Wii online? Those are also fun.

I don't know that the fact another WiiWare game is coming out on Monday necessarily means SBcg4ap won't be. It's true, Nintendo has been pretty consistent, especially lately, about releasing one and only one Wiiware game per week, but I remember at least a few weeks where two came out.

Of course, it still seems likely that we'll have to wait until the eleventh or later. I just think there's still a little hope for the fourth.

At least, I'd like to think that.

A lot of the newer Wiiware games appear to be decidedly uninventive. The REAL good ones came out early.

Although, I must admit I haven't actually played any of the newest releases. I recently ran out of storage space on my Wii and had to buy a memory card. Then I kept forgetting to go do that.

I would like to point out that the western game came out in Europe before the US. That means the PC version of SBCG4AP may be released as early as next Friday with a Europe-first release on Wii-Ware.

Won't that make all the US Wii fans...er...passionate. :)

I had a friend in the game industry (works for LucasArts, no less) tell me that the submission process once it goes to Nintendo takes about a month. Since the game was submitted in mid-July, 11 Aug is a reasonable guess. The fact that TTG is guessing that too confirms my suspicion...

Nintendo, but it isn't a development problem, just a finalization of license problem which isn't a problem at all. Nintendo doesn't trust 3rd party so much, so they tend to take longer on those games to make sure they are extra good and can be part of Nintendo business transactions. If only they had spent more time on Super Paper Mario......

The game is currently going through Nintendo's submission/certification process -- a process which every single game released on a Nintendo platform must go through. Sony and Microsoft have similar procedures for games before they are released on Playstation or Xbox systems as well. It's the final step before release, and is entirely par for the course.

I had read that Nintendo was extra-picky when it comes to third party games. To ensure high-quality. I assume, though Nintendo's relative lacking in the third party area may show the dark side to Nintendo's process.

Not that Nintendo gives a care about what other company's are doing.

I think any game company would need to submit their own games to things like those. Maybe Nintendo would do that for 'em, but since any game NOT up for download would 95%(?) need to get it rated themselves, I don't really think Nintendoid would do it for WiiWare titles.

I'm not even that ticked off about Strong Bad not being there, as Telltale's release dates have been pretty speculative and most of us were still assuming it wouldn't be out today. Ys had an exact date though http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/title/ys.html

So all in all, no mega man, no samurai showdown 2, no Ys, and these were all officially confirmed for today. Ys on Hudson's virtual console site(above), SS2 in an official press release from SNK, and mega man on an official capcom blog. Not to mention no Strong Bad.

Still, this is unusual. I think Nintendo posting the SBCG4AP trailer is the first time they have released a trailer for an upcoming WiiWare game, rather than one that is out the same day. It does look like a release on the 11th is more and more plausible.

Still, this is unusual. I think Nintendo posting the SBCG4AP trailer is the first time they have released a trailer for an upcoming WiiWare game, rather than one that is out the same day. It does look like a release on the 11th is more and more plausible.

Maybe those in Europe will get it first (like what happened with Wild West Guns). Those lucky Europeans. (Unless they are like Jurgen, then ew! ew!)

I'm sure Telltale told Nintendo the importance of a simultaneous release, and I believe TTG will be the first company to have their game also out on another system at the same time as its WiiWare counterpart, instead of before (like so many). Because of that, nobody will get it first except the very first person to download it.
You are right about the early trailers though, the only other time they have done that was the first 5 WiiWare released in the US and the week the Nintendo Channel debuted.

Why is it people make up their own release date in their mind and get dissapointed when it doesn't come out then?

Seriouisly, TTG isn't going to just release it and say "Hey...we released it. Go get it."

Once they know, they're gonna start doing backflips around their office and post a message reading out
HOLY CRAP, WE FIGURED OUT THE RELEASE DATE! and release it...on that date. Otherwise, don't expect it to come out on that day.

Unfortunately it is also looking less and less likely as well. I saw it myself, Jake promised a flashy and extravagant update that announced the release day at least 1 week before the day.

The fact he said the word week probably meant a whole 7 days. If it was less he would have said "a few days ago".
