We're extremely proud to announce Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures!
You can learn more at the official page (http://www.telltalegames.com/wallaceandgromit) or at the original news story from the Associated Press (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gEcaYz5XnMp3uPMk1isaZDwawuNgD924E04O1).
Awsomeness!

That screenshot looks just like the cartoon. You've got the looks down right.
Do you have an expected release date? Q2 2009?
What platforms?
So many questions...

The only reason I found out about this because of a Blog post that led me to the site (the smallest Sam and Max tribute article) and noticed the site design was different. I was wondering if the smaller header applied to the main page or not (it did).
Hope this game is good.

I very much agree with you Gabez. This is an awesomely unpredictable move, but such a perfect fit for Telltale and the episodic format!
“Clay presents a challenge if you really get into the detail of it. For example, adding fingerprints in a medium where there aren’t any is one of the discussions of how far we should go with the game’s detail.”
They should do it Neverhood-style.

Hm.
I'm not quite ecstatic yet, to be honest.
But yes, this is definitely not the kind of thing I was expecting(and no, I wasn't expecting a LucasArts adventure franchise!). And wow was it a surprise!
I'm going to, at the very least, give the first game a try. I suppose Telltale is going to do the "Upgrade to the full season after buying one episode" deal they do with Sam and Max? If so, then I'll probably buy the first episode and see if I really enjoy it.
Curse of the Were-Rabbit was fun, and I liked it. But I honestly hadn't seen much of Wallace and Gromit before that, and it's not a franchise that I can't wait to get released, like Sam and Max and Homestar.

Awe, I was really hoping that you guys would keep this a secret until the panel on Saturday. For the most part, so that I could be one of the few people to say, "I know what the mystery franchise is and you don't," before news hits the Interweb about said franchise. I admit, that would have been rather cruel on my part.
I'm not a big fan of Wallace & Gromit myself, but I'll follow the development, and see how it shapes up. Come to think of it, I'm pretty much programmed to buy anything with the name "Telltale" on it, anyway.

I second that. You'll see production time quadruple for one episode, but it would be a sweet product in the end.
Not being a huge fan of the W&G series, I wonder what direction they'll take this series. Hopefully it won't end in a *yawn* endless back and forth dialogue sequence switching between medium shots of the characters....

Well, Wallace & Gromit is pretty much a family friendly thing. Next thing you know, TellTale Games would have to team up with Warner Bros. Games, and Steven Spielberg to work on an Episodic Game Series based on either Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures or Freakazoid.

To me this is the most exciting Telltale related happening since S&M season 1. That render gets the look down unbelievably well. Atmospherically it'll be interesting to see which direction Telltale goes; I'm hoping for something Hitchcockian like The Wrong Trousers, though Hammer horror like the Curse of the Were Rabbit would be cool too. It'll be interesting to see how it's structured too as I can't see the individual, linked cases style of S&M working for Wallace and Gromit without seeming contrived but am sure Telltale will come up with something fitting.

OMG Wallace and Gromit are superb.
I hope that Telltale can emulate the character and humour or the series.
However I have some real concerns.
Americans can't do british comedy.....Every uk show that has been americanised has sucked ass. Coupling, the office, fawlty towers, Red Dwarf, Steptoe and Son etc etc.

The American Office was never suppost to be America's attempt at british humour. That being said, the show is pretty much one of the best TV shows ever created (besides LOST).
I'm sure TTG will have lots of help from Aarman/Nick Park with the writing.
Lucien21
07/25/2008, 12:23 am
Well I stopped watching after the first season as it was a pale imitation and did indeed "suck ass" IMO.
The same thing happens in the opposite direction ITV remade "Mad about You" (one of the best US comedies ever) and "Married with Children" (Brilliant show) for the UK audience with less success.
My point is that Wallace and Grommit are very much British through and through in the setting and the jokes and everything about it. Any attempt to change this will result in a massive fail, any anytime I have seen an american company try to recreate British humour it just doesn't work.
Transplanting Wallace and Gromit to an American setting is a non-starter or you end up with those Mr Bean movies of British character goes to American and not a lot of hilarity ensues.

I have made half this jump myself(hop to conclusions?), not that W&G will be put in an American setting but that will be written by American writers. Will this game be written with an American style of humour or British?
(Not that I really care, as I find both British and American comedies funny :))

Badwolf
07/25/2008, 08:21 am
It's not really a show, more of a series of short films (there's three so far, and one feature length film). I'd say it's targetting a family audience, rather than just kids, so I would've thought the game'd be the same.
There should be some clips on Youtube to give you the general idea.

Wallace and Gromit is a series of shorts (and one film) about Wallace, an english inventor and his dog, Gromit, who speaks without words. The age group for Wallace and Gromit I'd say is 8-100: It's family friendly but anyone can enjoy it. Go rent the movie The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and you'll see what all the fuss is about.

More of a little jump to conclusion.
Beside in context with the rest of my post I was just highlighting that W&G is British and any attempt to change that would be a mistake. It wasn't a suggest that you were aiming to transplant our heroes.
Overall though I am still excited that you are doing it and hope that the Aardman people keep you straight on the humour and that you nail the British quirkyness of the characters/settings and humour.
Certainly more excited about this than the Strongbad games.
For us, the whole point of doing a licensed game is to take all of the things that make a particular license good and interesting, and translating that into an interactive narrative space. We didn't decide to do a Wallace & Gromit game because it was a known name we could turn into a platformer or minigame library or something. The characters and world and stories from the shorts and the film were an extremely appealing well from which we could draw some great games. Obviously its unique (northern) Britishness is a huge chunk of its appeal -- a driving force behind most of the tone and even plots of the stories -- so we would be massively crazy people to want to do anything but get as close to that as we can. Fortunately I think we're up to it :)

Umm... you're aware that not everyone who plays games is American?
Wallace & Gromit rocks, and outside the US they are a much bigger franchise than Strong Bad or Sam & Max - this is the first Telltale series I've actually known about the characters before they announced the games.

To be honest, Wallace and Gromit has mainstream success - I'd guarantee that at least in the UK and Australia, the average person in the street will have heard of W&G even if they haven't seen any of the shorts or the movie - whereas Sam and Max and Homestar Runner are much lower profile, and more "cult", if you will.

I was wondering the same thing. I saw "They're not episodic", and checked back to see if your or Thinky's posts had something referring to the game's episodic natures. All I saw was that their episodic nature was the one arbitrary difference between Thinky's list and the games you mentioned.
Well, I mean. Bone was episodic, but I can see how someone might not think so. Seeing as, you know, it has only two episodes which I have yet to buy.

Well, Wallace & Gromit is pretty much a family friendly thing. Next thing you know, TellTale Games would have to team up with Warner Bros. Games, and Steven Spielberg to work on an Episodic Game Series based on either Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures or Freakazoid.

actually macs always where pcs, even if the term is most commonly used for ms or maybe unix operated machines. regarding the upgradeability, it depends on the model you are using. the notebooks are as easy to upgrade as most other notebooks.
anyways, i just checked the wallace and gromit trailer and i need to talk about it: at first i wasn't to excited about the game. i mean, i totally like the franchise, but it was never something i thought it needed a game. now, after seeing it, i'm abolutely positive that it will be awesome. most of the time you can't really tell if the characters in the trailer are clay or computer-animated.

Great news indeed!
I love Wallace & Gromit series and the recent movie, "Curse of the Were-Rabbit".
The thing they used clay in the 3D animation days, and the effort they put in doing that was really worth it. I heard the movie took 5 years to be made. Not many movies invest so much passion these days.
Wallace & Gromit are made for both children and adults. They're cartoons and children love them, but they also have very smart stories and intelligent humor, so adults can find them wonderful as well. In fact, you can watch a Wallace & Gromit movie ten times and still find new things in it, and make new correlations.
The guys from Aardman did a wonderful job with these cartoons and I hope Telltale Games will do a quality job as well. They are people with passion for the games they make and I hope they'll work close with Aardman to make sure these adventures can stay next to the animated series.

I've not had the pleasure of seeing any of the Wallace & Gromit shorts or the movie yet. But I suppose now I ought to watch all of them so I won't miss out on any obscure references they're bound to make in the games.
A couple of questions: (even though they've been discussed, no one's asked directly about it yet. At least not in this thread.)
1. Will Nick Park and the team from Aardman be involved in the game, and if so, how heavily? Like, Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant with the American Office, or like Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Jessica Hynes with the aborted american Spaced remake?
2. Will the original voice actors be used for Wallace and any other recurring characters from the series be used in the game where possible?

I of course, absolutely loved it. I'm actually more excited right now for this than a third season of Sam and Max.

Guys! I think I've figured out The Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, And Everything!
"On a scale of 1 to 42, how awesome is Telltale right now?"
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for, and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarrely inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
Now that my rampant DNA fanboyism is taken care of... on to my rampant Nick Park fanboyishm.
This is a very very pleasant surprise to find upon my return from vacation. I've always loved claymations, and W&G was my personal favorite (with Frog and Toad being my second). Telltale strikes me as being perfectly-suited to the W&G universe.
Now all we need as a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series to come out of Telltale, and I will sell them my soul to do with as they see fit.

Ok, whoever said Telltale should make a Calvin & Hobbes game just made a mess in my pants. I'm not sure how they would do it, and I don't see how they could make it match what's in my head without me being there telling them how to do it, but if they got it right... god...
Oh yeah, Wallace & Gromit is good too. ;) Any chance of getting Peter Sallis for Wallace? If you can get someone else who does the voice exactly right, that would be fine, but Sallis would be a nice touch.
It's great to see Telltale Games getting these licenses (not to mention such support and help from the original creators of these licenses) that are just about made for the point-and-click genre. Wallace and Gromit fit the formula perfectly.
The point-and-click adventure games may have been pushed into what now appears to be a niche corner of the gaming world, but it's still great to see they're being kept alive by capable hands.
...Maybe all that sounded too sycophant-ish, but it's just nice to see one of my favourite childhood animations turned into a game. I know it's been done before, but this feels much more right than previous attempts.
