What was the first console you got hooked on playing?

Atari 2600. I got high scores in Kaboom! and Pitfall 2, sent Polaroids of the TV screens to Atari and got patches for both games. The kind you sew onto fabric, not the software kind of patch.

To this day I haven't been able to get the hang of platforming in 3-D, so Mario lost lots of his appeal to me with the 64, though it had the last Mario Kart game which I really liked.

We had Commodore 64 (which is a computer, not console) so long that our first console was an old Nintendo 64 in late 90's. Now I have a laptop with 64bit processor. =D

Sega Master System. I didn't actually own it, but they had one at after school care, and I went on it every chance I got. Any of the music from the first four stages of the first Sonic game for the Master System makes me nostalgic. The first time I played Super Smash Brothers Brawl as Sonic, on Green Hill Zone, with the Green Hill Zone music... well, I teared up a little. I'm kind of sappy.

The first console I actually owned and was allowed to play for more than half an hour at time was a Nintendo 64. I absolutely loved Banjo-Kazooie, and could not wait for Banjo-Tooie. Speaking of which, the Australian release date for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is exactly eight years after the American release date for Banjo-Tooie, to the day.

I also spent enough time playing Diddy Kong Racing that I became skilled enough to unlock TT. So too much, basically.

It all started when my parents bought a snes for me and my brother. The hours paying Super Mario and Zelda. The most fun though was with NHL 93.

If not the Apple II, then it comes down to either the Sega Genesis or Nintendo 64. I actually got both around the same time, I remember games for the Genesis being far cheaper so I got more of them. I probably got the Genesis first, but there was definitely an overlapping period of time during which I'd play both, which is probably a fairly unique experience.

NES is the only console I have ever owned.

I also had Amiga 500, before I bought my first PC. And since it turned out that best strategy and adventure games are for PC, I haven't had need to buy any other game machine besides PC. I also have developed irrational hatred towards gamepads* and I think that nothing beats mouse+keyboard combination.

*NES gamepads made my thumbs sore after longer playing sessions.

My first big videogame system was the Game Boy Color. The majority of the games I owned were licensed games, like Rugrats, Disney, SpongeBob, and all that crap. And a lot of the games we had rented from Blockbuster, because it was cheaper that way. I wasn't introduced to Mario and Sonic until much, much later. I had this fun little Disney Tetris game, though. I now have a personal grudge against Tetris for ruining my life.

My first handheld console was a Game Boy Color. Ah, the memories from Pokemon Yellow. An enormous Pikachu following me everywhere, not knowing when you level up.
That was a great game.

SNES with Mario and a lot of those old RPGs. Secret of Mana/Evermore, Terranigma and stuff like that. From that point on i owned every Nintendo-Console although there were less and less interesting games with every generation. But i'm still happy with Mario and Zelda :P

I played on the PC parallel and adventures were the first games that got my attention - actually one of my older brothers showed me monkey island and day of the tentacle back then. man i'm glad he did that. xD
