Yes! Finally!

Looks like Lucasarts is finally shining towards adventure games again. Ready for some fine leather jackets?

Yeah that was a big surprise. It'll be interesting to see what kind of software they use to run it on the Wii HMMMMMMM and also if they'll make use of that engine again in the future.

...It doesn't really matter. They aren't even confident enough to re-release it on its own, even in a big adventure compilation disc.

I mean, I guess it'll be nice that I won't have to hack my Wii to play at least one adventure game on it(ports don't count, and neither does Zack and Wiki).

I'll believe LucasArts is shining towards adventures again when they pick up some of their old licenses and actually do something NEW with them.

Yeah I don't think it means much but it's still very cool! This is one case where the bonus game will be much better than the main one.

Huh? I don't think that was a LucasArts game?

I would hope it's not a sign of things to come. Stuffing Adventures onto bigger games as an afterthought isn't exactly my idea of a "revival".

you didn't specify lucas arts, you said adventure game, i guess its a port, but an enhanced one, and many younger gamer own't have played broken sword

where as I was refering to the bolded text which quite clearly doesn't imply lucasarts in any way, form or matter.

Ah. Miscommunication, then. :D

...oh, I know what you're talking about. It's the pretty port. =p

As much as I'd hope it was, I don't think it's any more a "start" than releasing a "Best of LucasArts" adventure game compilation DVD-ROM. A start would be a small, new Adventure on the DS or...well, something other than plopping an old game onto something new. Y'know?

Yeah. Yeah, I guess you're right. But there has been so little adventure game activity, at least its SOMETHING.

How is introducing the cool classics to the younger public not a start? If it's liked widely enough it could motivate LucasArts (LucasGames?) to actually make something new... Who knows? :)

Lucasarts. I'm surprised they are releasing something beside star wars... bah

Like Rather Dashing said, its not much more motivation than releasing a complete disk of Lucasarts adventure games. Then again, it may motivate them. But remember, Lucasarts isn't making it, A2M is.

I *do* want to be wrong. And at least somebody acknowledges that these games exist. But....

It's LucasArts.

Remember, this is the company that had a NEARLY DONE Sam and Max game on their hands, and then dropped it because the new guys in charge said that these kinds of games "aren't feasible".

I mean...if we can't expect revival when we have an announced, advertised, and nearly-done adventure game....I don't want to get my hopes up over a passing nod. That's all.

In Nintendo power it said the new game had a feature that would "please oldschool gamers".
I immediately thought it was maniac mansion and monkey island.

But, I guess that is what video game companies are made to do: Disappoint gamers at all costs

What's wrong with Fate of Atlantis? Its a '90s point and click adventure made from the studio of Monkey Island.

Fate of Atlantis is one of Lucasarts very finest games.

So, this is just a straight port. No graphic upgrades or anything? I don't quite see the logic in that considering that ScummVM works perfectly.

Rather Dashing

Believe it or not, not everybody has bought the game. Or, in what it sounds like your case is, downloaded the game from the internet.

Further, there is one altruistic point to this. People have to be really looking for adventure games to get ScummVM. However, someone who just happens to like Indiana Jones, someone who gets this new game, may unlock their first adventure game ever.

Further, some people actually don't play games anywhere but on their TV.

Even further, it's just an easter egg, not a full-blown release.

And besides all that, getting ScummVM to work on the Wii probably requires some steps most people would hesitate to take, especially after Nintendo blocked the most straightforward method. Mainstream availability is a whole different animal from "you can do it, if you're able and willing to get into modding".

I haven't played it, so I shouldn't say much....but I think I would rather have MM and DOTT on one disk with new graphics and enhanced (not rerecorded though) voice overs.

Awesome. I miss that game, my copy is Mac only, useless on my PC.

Now, when will DOTT, Sam and Max, and Grim Fandango be remade for the Wii........

Rather Dashing
02/24/2009, 07:05 pm
...if someone hasn't PLAYED the Indiana Jones game, I'd think that would be all the more reason to want to get it. I mean, Adventure Games only have so much re playability. And we ARE talking a new adventure here. That's why I buy Telltale's Sam and Max seasons rather than just re-playing Hit the Road over and over!

I dont think it'd make any sense to ship DooT. There's no tie-in.

Yeah, but from what I see, the people who are most excited about the easter egg are those who have already played it.

Very good review for this game (does contain spoilers though) -

Part 2/2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YurkHNJGbSU)

Even if you've already played the game, this review is well worth watching.

uh...oh....

I just had a disturbing thought....

what if it only includes the action version of FOA? Because that review thing said there were 2 versions of the game!

the original link specifies its the adventure game, and i don't think lucas arts will disappoint that much
