[W&G S1E1 Demo] Can't launch the demo

I've downloaded and installed the demo successfully, but when I try to run it, the mouse icon switch to loading for a second or so and then nothing happens (not even an error). In the task manager, the process seems to be created and then killed nearly immediately.
I've tried the fix from this thread (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8006) but it did nothing for me.
I'm running WinXP 32bit SP3 on a laptop with a nVidia 8600M GT.
-Edit : I just updated my graphic driver to the 182.08; the problem still remains

Hey, sorry for not responding before. Did you run the DirectX updater when you installed?

Yes, I did. I saw a window quickly appear and disappear during the installation when the trace showed something along the line of "dxwebsetup \Q".

Just to clarify something, I don't even get the welcoming screen.

Ok, I tried that :the directx installer told me it had detected an up to date or more recent version of directx and thus no changes were made.
