Woo it's finally started! We've just released the first episode of Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, "Fright of the Bumblebees." Are you guys checking it out? What do you think so far?

We've got more at the W&G website (http://www.telltalegames.com/wallaceandgromit), including Wallace & Gromit hints (http://www.telltalegames.com/wallaceandgromit/walkthroughs) and walkthroughs for those who are stuck right out of the gate. (It's okay, we'll only mock you behind your back!)

Grand Adventures continues in May with episode two, "The Last Resort," followed by "Muzzled!" and "The Bogey Man." We'll have more about those guys in the near future. For now, enjoy!

Also, since we love deals, we have another one:
To celebrate the launch of the series, we're following up last week's crazy deal with an all new crazy deal (http://www.telltalegames.com/store/wallaceandgromitsgrandadventures). We're crazy, apparently! During launch week, the game bundle is marked down to $29.95 (usually $34.95), and when you buy W&G you can add as much other stuff from the store as you'd like into your cart, and it'll all be 50% off! This is a ridiculous deal, if you were curious.

Oh wow! That second deal could have actually saved me more money than the first, considering I've been very seriously considering snagging two signed prints.

Ah well. I jumped on the first deal. I suppose that's the way it works. =/

Holy crap. I don't think my computer's going to like this very much. I'm on a download limit, too. I'm still going to download it because I really want the game, but the size just took me by surprise.

Actually, as a preorder customer, you'll be getting a 50% off coupon in the email that contains your download link. We wouldn't want to snub the early adopters, after all. ;)

EDIT: Derwin beat me to it! Telltale, give that man a job! :D

You don't know how long I have been waiting to hear you say that.

I will be in the office tomorrow morning at 8:30 am. I would be in earlier but it is going to be quite a long drive from MT, and I figure I should only speed so much...

Back on topic, thanks for releasing the game like this. both releasing it a day early (based on your timezone) and providing a 50% off coupon code has made this one of the best TTG releases yet... and I haven't even played the full game yet!

Okay. Now I'm not considering holding off on Telltale games anymore out of some ominous fear of the strange forces of price volatility. =p

Nice. Can we use the coupon on Strong Bad DVDs? I like to make my Australian pesos go further.

Also very impressed by the release timing on this, it's almost 6pm local time, I can play when I get home from work!

So does Peter Sallis play Wallace in the games as well? If not, I really can't tell any difference.

It's not Sallis. It's his official back-up actor, though, so it's the next best thing.

Woo it's finally started! We've just released the first episode of Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, "Fright of the Bumblebees."

Will it be possible to order and download a single episode or is it only going to be available as a full series? As far as I can see there's no way to pay for just the first episode at the moment?

EEK! Thank you for an early day release! I remember the first Strong Bad episode came out in the afternoon. I'll get a taste of the game now before I go to school.

I've just finished the episode (took me around 4 hours) and I liked it a LOT. As with all season starts the puzzles were a little on the easy side, but I assume you'll slowly dial the difficulty up with each episode. Oh, and I liked the fact that you controlled Gromit just as much as Wallace.

The new controls were easy to get used to, and the resulting presentation was fantastic. I think you've refined the clay shaders and textures since the demo, right? They looked way better here... photoreal in some situations. What I liked a lot as well was the use of depth-of-field (especially in the hallway), although I hope you use it much more in the further episodes, as most of the close-ups could look even better through the addition of the effect. Altogether a visually stunning game... the best looking Telltale game by far.

The music volume was far better than in the demo, but still I'd prefer a separate volume dial for the music in the further episodes. Performance was near perfect on my AMD X2 4200 at FullHD (1920x1200) resolution and highest graphics settings... and that's already a dated PC.

Altogether a great start for the series. Looking forward to the next episode :-)

(Oh, and I loooooooved the ending shot over which the credits rolled... the perspective, the composition... and if the episodes are seamless, I wonder how they get out of that pickle :D)

Pretty much what Laserschwert said, but boy 1920? I thought my 1680 resolution was high! It was amazing, and having gone on a W&G marathon recently, it was fantastic to see how perfectly you were able to replicate their world (though I never had any doubts)! Awesome start to the series guys, can't wait until May for the next one! :D

So I've played through the first act, visual quality is far better than I anticipated, even after seeing the demo. Also, the inital puzzles are great, definitely at home in the W&G world. Unfortunately the game is locking up at the end of the act so I haven't been able to play further but the part that's worked is quite good so far.

Hmmm, looks like I have my answer (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8069). Little bit miffed by that to be honest but I doubt it will stand in the way of me ordering the season.

Been playing it a bit now and I'm impressed. They captured the feel of W&G very well, and the graphics are better than I've seen in any Telltale game so far.

Just had to take a break since my hand was getting tired.

One thing I noticed - you can click on hotspots and the character will automatically go there... so the game already has some sort of pathfinding in there... ah well, I won't go into this again :p

Gonna have to hold out for the 360 version on this one. The whole "buy it all at once" thing has caught my wallet off-guard, and the prettified engine will probably play even worse havoc on my low RAM than Sam & Max does.

It seems to require at least a decent PC to run well, at least if you want decent graphics. My laptop really struggles with it, have to use my desktop PC here.

Yeah, so, I've been playing this for the last couple of hours, and just completed it. I've been a Telltale-fan for a couple of years now. I started a long time ago when they first released Sam & Max, waited for the disc-release because I wasn't convinced by this download-thing, but really joined the family somewhere during or after Season 2, I guess. I played every Telltale game, from Texas Hold Em to CSI, and I always had a great time. Therefore I think it means a lot when I say that this is, in my humble opinion, Telltale's best game to date. The presentation is top-notch, the new control-system completely won me over. Hell, I absolutely wouldn't mind seeing this in a future Sam & Max release, if that means they're going to get the same cinematic action.

I would just like to thank everyone on the team. Everything comes together so well, it's amazing. If you compare this to Out from Boneville (which was cool as well, but you know, had a bit of a tighter budget), it's amazing how far Telltale has come. I can't wait for the second episode. I was going to play just a bit of this today (I actually thought it would be released later today), as I had a lot of work to do, but I just couldn't stop playing. Speaking of which, I should probably get started on that.

My favorite moment had to be getting rid of all the bees with Gromit. Gromit walking on four legs has an incredibly hypnotic quality. And man, that Bee disco. Those guys can dance, man.

So, yeah. Awesome.

Well, just finished it. Cool game. I'm left with the feeling that mouse controls might be easy to put in games using this control system as pathfinding seems to be in there already.. just need to work out a way to go around that 'not seeing the floor in every scene' problem.. I'm sure it can be done, make everyone happy :)

Anyway, very nice game. Will you make those bee posters available as desktop wallpapers? :D

Very quick impressions as I need to get back to playing. I didn't play the demo, so absolutely everything is new to me (bar the screenshots, etc).

Graphics are superb. I've got them on the highest level, 9, and it looks stunning.
Although I'm sometimes still clicking to move, I'm warmed to the new control scheme. The word that seems to be tossed around is 'cinematic', and that's very much how it feels.
I'm getting used to the voice actor for Wallace. Although it isn't as good as having Peter Sallis himself, it's still a worthy choice.

That's all for now. Back to the action!

If it were that easy, we probably would have done it. ;) (But I'm glad to hear you liked the game even if the controls aren't your favorite!)

Just finished it, and have to say thoroughly enjoyed it - as a long time W&G fan, I think it's safe to say you guys have done the series proud. I really enjoyed it, and my initial worries in the demo of not getting used to the not quite Peter Sallis voice were unfounded. I suppose only bad point now is I don't want to wait for the rest! :p

I'd like to express my immense enjoyment of the game. It is, to me, Telltale's best product since the latest Sam & Max. Yup, didn't enjoy that much of strongbad (mostly for lack of challenge and storyline continuity, but that's a different topic). For W&G I, again, got so hooked to the storyline I needed to finnish this one in one sitting.

I found this very true to the original source. The graphics are great (I decided to run it at 7 on my system), and it actually had some puzzles that require thought, contrary of the demo being far too easy. Of course these are individual observations.

Still not too keen on the keyboard movement, it has many serious flaws especially when the camera is on the move. A gamepad would come in handy, but it still has those blind camera angles. True Point'n'click would work much better for me. I wish it was added as an optional feature.

The second thing I'm dissapointed about is not about gameplay but business. Why break a perfectly good model of releasing each episode for sale individually? Even if most people bought the season anyway, and true W&G fans knowing it's going to be worth every pence, it still wouldnt hurt giving the option of getting one and then upgrading, like with every other product you've had.

This series does have a whole lot of potential, be it in gameplay or the script. A few technicalities aside, it's off to a cracking start, which I'm sure almost every W&G fan will enjoy, and newbies to this will go and see the animations. Hooray!

I just finished the game a short time ago and since Wallace and Gromit are one of my favs... this episode is up there with the Wrong Trousers and Matter of Loaf and Death as one of the best, this felt like a proper short film of the highest quality.

Minor cons tho, The control scheme I haven't got use to but I will in time and it feels not right for Wallace's voice just a little... can you alter pitch so he sounds like Peter Sallis because I'm still ok with his back up, just need to get used to it.

All in all.... 9/10

Oh and loving it so far... :)

Right, why can't I change the screen size on the graphics options. I've tried clicking on it and arrowing to it. I use a 1280*800 computer and I refuse to play a game where everything is too wide.

I've downloaded the game earlier today and finished it off already. If I had one complaint to make is that this game is quite short. I would have liked to spend a few more hours solving puzzles with those two.

I was annoyed at first at the controls but they weren't that much of a pain. I'm guessing that the game being released for the 360 has something to do with that.

There was one annoyance however. The cursor isn't locked in the game and I sometime clicked outside of it on my second monitor wich minimized the game. It was mostly a problem with the bee shooting where I was minimizing the game every 15 seconds. If that could be taken care of for future releases it would be fantastic.

Just cleared the episode. Really enjoyed it and I'm very impressed as well. You guys did a spot-on translation of the W&G universe, while still keeping your very distinctive touch.

I decided to play it on my HDTV with my 360 gamepad. Graphics and animation were absolutely stunning for a game this small and this low on hardware requirements thanks to a pretty much flawless art direction.

Only thing that bothered me at times is a few minor problems related to the control with the gamepad. Sometimes, selecting the right item to interact with can be a bit of a struggle, even with all the different ways available (stick, pad or buttons). It's not that bad, but I would also have appreciated if the item you just interacted with kept being selected after doing so (wasn't always the case apparently) to reduce the effects of this slight inconvenience. I hope you'll find a way to tune this whole thing a bit before the game hits Xbox Live Arcade, so casual users won't get instantly turned down by this when trying out the demo. Personally, I didn't care that much, especially since the inventory system is very well done.

One last thing about gamepad controls. Since I'm playing far away from my PC (the TV is not even in sight and the wireless mouse is out of range), I was quite pleased to see that you could use the gamepad to navigate through all the menus. Well... all except for the saving system. I couldn't seem to be able to select anything in there and it would definitely be great if it's tweaked out for next episodes.

That's all. Everything else was pure enjoyment. Once again, well done Telltale :)

Foudn the game great except for a possible bug.

WARNING SPOILER BELOW!

Whilst in Wallaces basement with th major present (suitcase open), i handed gromit his dog tags, which he promptly threw away. Unfortunatly they landed underneath a control panel which cannot be seen (Since its hidden behind the suitcase). After ages of agony i found an odd spot in the bottom left corner where you could see the dog tags and click on them, sending wallace after em.

Did anybody else have this problem?

Oddly enough I didn't have to go through the process of giving the major the dog tag and helmet to get the protein bar, he just handed them over when I clicked on the case.

I like this game very much but I stumbled over a logical error.

After I calmed down the bees in the cellar I spotted down into the cellar from outside the house. I could still hear the dancing tune and the other record was lying next to the record-player.

Edit: I just finished it.

+ controlling 2 characters is great. I really liked controlling both of them
+ the graphics are good but I start getting some darker spots on the characters in cutscenes even on graphics quality 1. (holy cow this game looks great on the screenshot on the last page)
+ I really love the ending

- Steam says I played it 3.2 hours. That is really short but there were shorter games in your catalogue.

I have also completed the first episode after 3-4 hours playing (hints switched off), and overall I have enjoyed W&G a lot:
great story
great graphics
great voice actors
quite original riddles to solve
two different characters to control
I subtract "1/2 thumb" though due to the keyboard control (see my posting in the related thread (http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=120044&postcount=120)) and some technical issues which hopefully will soon be fixed.

It's over! Episode one, that is. I just finished it and I can't wait for more. I wouldn't say it was longer than anything from Sam & Max Season 2, plus it was easier, so I am slightly disappointed there - we'll see how the next three episodes pan out. It's obviously going to progress in a similar way to SBCG4AP, with rooms being unlocked as the series goes on (living room, Paneer's shop) so we'll see how previous locations hold up then. I didn't particularly notice the lack of user dialogue selection, although it was annoying having to keep click the character until they ran out of unique things to say. Finally, I appreciate how well you've stuck to the source material, especially the driver's seat being on the right! :D

Pros

Looks great.
Sounds great (bravo, both music and cast!).
Controls are OK.
Visual style (in many ways: camera movements, acting, details) and dialogue really create that W&G feeling (in its deep, cinematic side).
I loved a couple of puzzles (shooting porridge and making a metal rat cry above all).
Wallace is hilarious.

Cons

Apart from the Sniffer 3000 subplot, story wasn't that much of a thrill.
It has some big bugs (but I fear they may be more of a design problem) in the part with Gromit: I pulled the bed lever in the kitchen before going upstairs, and I found the sheets snoring; I went to the city centre before I got rid of the bees in the garden, and had Wallace dropping the answering machine and messing with the frying pan after I had picked them up).
It's not, in any way, beefier than S&M or SBCG4AP: that's been a big disappointment. I believe that completing it took me less time than finishing any other Telltale game to date (Mob, Mole & Meatball and Moai Better Blues had some hard puzzles on their side). Too easy and too short: I know it's an old complaint, but I think it fits the situation.

This is definetly up there with Sam & Max, i will perhaps even say i bit above it, never before have i had anything to do with Wallace and Gromit, so these characters are new to me.

But the whole concept especially with the contraptions. i must say i love it. and hope we will see alot more like this.

I just wish the in the garden some of the big flowers were left, so the scenery like in sam & max changes over time, in episodic content, imo it feels good to have just alittle change on the enviroments.

Missing alittle longer episodes, alittle more stuff to click on :) and ofc more areas to explore, i hope some more of the house and town opens up.

I used 3.3hours according to steam. but hey LONGER IS BETTER SO MAKE LOOOOONGER! :)

There does indeed seem to be some flaws or problems, if you are a clicker person from Sam & max, alot of people here seems to have done stuff differently or not at all very wierd xD

I got around to playing the game tonight, and I really liked it! The game perfectly captures the mood from the Wallace and Gromit shorts. The voice acting and background music are spot on as well. Great job! I played through it in about two hours without using any hints or walkthroughs, so I'd say it's on the short side, but I enjoyed it immensely and that's more important, I think.

On the technical side, I had to turn the graphics setting back to 3 to get proper rendering. I would have expected a little better auto-detection of suitable settings; although I'm fine with finetuning settings before I start playing, I can imagine many other users aren't, especially since these games are aimed at casual users rather than hardcore gamers.

On the same note, it's also strange to have 4:3 default resolution, while the game uses a widescreen resolution, resulting in serious windowboxing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windowbox_(film)) on widescreen monitors.

I also experienced some rendering problems in the character's faces while watching the movie scenes; that's definitely a bug, and I hope it will be fixed in future episodes, although it didn't ruin the game for me.

I like this game very much but I stumbled over a logical error.
After I calmed down the bees in the cellar I spotted down into the cellar from outside the house. I could still hear the dancing tune and the other record was lying next to the record-player.
Yeah, I noticed this too, and some other inconsistencies like:
- When the Constable gives you back the Gorgonzola, he says he also found the other cheese (the Wensleydale) but he put it on a sandwich. However, if you look through the cell window, you can see the cheese is still on the floor under the bed.
- Even though you remove the battery from the cheese sniffer and mix it into the quick-growth formula, Gromit is able to use it later on. Shouldn't the sniffer be out of juice?
Nothing too important though.

I loved it! I'm more than happy to play with a keyboard and mouse if it means that the game gets a more cinematic feel! It really did feel like playing a Wallace & Gromit film!

I thought the storyline was great, and I was pleasantly surprised that the expressive features of the silent characters were done so well. I'm a bigger Gromit fan than a Wallace fan, and apparantly this translates into the game realm as well, as I had a lot more fun walking around as Gromit than I did as Wallace. Although, Wallace's parts were fun too. Gromit doesn't talk, but I still found myself clicking on objects to see Gromit's expressions. :)

Oh, and I also have to mention the music. I've loved the music in all of the Telltale games, and this game is no exception. I really hope there's a soundtrack CD release for this game when it's over. :)

Oh, and I loved the voices too. Wallace's voice was great. And I really loved the voice of the woman who ran the news stand. :)

I also loved that you get a map from the grocery owner. I wasn't expecting that, since there were only three locations on the map. But, I'm glad it was there, as I used the map a lot. I went between Wallace's house and the town square a lot, so it was nice to just be able to magically pop in and out at will. :)

There's really not anything I can find to fault the games for. But, there were a few oddities here and there, as other people have mentioned. One I noticed that hasn't been mentioned was If you click the light board in the kitchen the second time you play as Gromit, the breakfast light lights up, and Wallace says his "just a reminder" line, despite him being on the phone right in front of Gromit

But, that certainly doesn't detract from the game. :)

Right, I second this! It was no surprise to see Jared Emerson-Johnson in the credits again, and I must say he did a great job on the music!

will it be released on a disc
Yes. And you can get the DVD for just shipping costs when the DVD is released.

and is there a way to download it in the uk without it taking so long to download.
Took me about 10 minutes to download the 337MB of the first episode from Austria, so unless your provider only does dial-up it should be doable.

And I think the game is available via Steam as well, if that works for you - though that might void the "mail me the DVD" offer...

I just finished it....it was a blast! I'd say it's already better than SBCG4AP! I was and still am annoyed by the controls, but the rest of the game was on par with an average Sam and Max episode.

I love it, but I have a big problem. Not with Wallace and Gromit, but with THIS COMPUTER. I play on graphics detail 1 and it STILL lags like hell. As is said in EBA, HEEEEEELP!!!

Aside from a few bugs (I hit two mentioned, and I had one that when I closed the map i just got an empty screen with a brick wall background, but was able to open the map again and move) I thorougly enjoyed the game. The controls were fine after 2 minutes, although some of the camera changes were a little tight.

Control wise I had no problems, but then I cut my teeth on adventure games and survival horror, so static camera angles don't throw me. I do like the cinematic camera angles, but would request the option for character relative as well as camera relative controls (turn right, turn left, walk forwards, walk backwards). It'd be an option I'd use anyhow.

I too ran into a few little glitches like Gromit being scared of an empty snoring bed, also Felicity commented on the gnomes missing cricket bat after I'd replaced it and already made use of it. Also, when Wallace was on the phone with the constable in his underwear, I clicked on the sign above the door and had him yelling about the things I needed to get him for breakfast while simultaneously chatting away on the phone.

It was very well 'shot' for the most part. sometimes as Gromit though he'd be hidden from view off the bottom of the screen.

All in all I'm very glad I picked up the whole season though and can't wait to see what's next. The animation is absolutely on par with the shorts and the movie, and that is saying a lot!

happened to me too, and I was unable to get the map back. had to kill the game from the Task Manager

So, after saving 80-some dollars with the 50% off deal...I'm not even sure if I can have any complaints about the quality of Wallace and Gromit. I mean, I paid about what I expected to for Wallace, the puzzles in episode 1 were fun and creative, and I got a lot of stuff that I would have bought eventually for relatively cheap.

...Well, I probably wouldn't have bought a second hardcover Surfin' the Highway, but it's nice to know I have a back-up/gift option.

Oh I should also mention, I like the new recap feature when continuing the game where you last left off. Very handy and neat. :D

The scripting can use a little more polishing.

At one point of the game, Wallace tells Gromit that Dibbins wants Gromit at the Town Centre to take care of the bee problem, but when Gromit comes to the Police Station, Dibbins just shoos him off. The player will wonder whether something is amiss. What's more, if hints are on at this point, Sometimes Dibbins will poke his head out giving advices to Gromit, friendly-like; but when you come to his door he'll resume his bureaucratic self. I find this odd.

I thought the episode was amazing, and given Telltales track record of them only getting better, I can't wait for the next one :D

I enjoyed the game. Just a couple things, though.

For one thing, the graphics were great. The problem is, even though my computer can handle the graphics, apparently my mouse couldn't. The game ran smoothly and was fine, but my mouse was very sluggish. I had to put it at level 2 or 3 in order to use it with ease.

Also, just to point out a very minor glitch, I solved the puzzle involving the gang of bees in the front yard and the ones in town first. After I got back, I went to the kitchen and Wallace gave his good job speech and then moved to the blender, talking about his miniaturizing potion. I knew I had to get outside to put the cheese where the record player was, but Wallace stood right in the way and I couldn't click on the door. It was a little annoying to go back outside and walk around to get to that part of the house .

I loved that I could use the mouse wheel to go through inventory items and also use the third mouse button to enter the inventory (instead of shift).

Is your resolution right? I've noticed that if I choose a screen resolution that is way larger or smaller than my screen's actual resolution, the mouse will move oddly even if I can handle the graphics.

I have to say I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Not sure why I expected less, I guess I just had a certain hunch, and the demo wasn't much to go on. The puzzles were more clever than I thought they would be, controlling Wallace vs. controlling Gromit was well-handled, and everything felt natural. And it was great to see a Telltale game with truly top-notch graphics and production values (except for a few voice glitches, most notably when Wallace was on the phone). I look forward to the next one.

Hi

When will the trailer for Episode 2 The Last Resort be shown.

I would think you could expect some new info/media sometime in the near future seeing as we're making an episodic series. I'd suggest checking the site daily if you're eager for more Wallace and Gromit stuff.

Well, episode 1 just came out last week and episode 2 won't be out until sometime in May. So it won't be immediate. ;)

On Telltale's latest blog entry, the video seemed to state that Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures was for the 360, PC... and Wii? Either it was a mistake on Playr's part, or Telltale's been omitting an interesting bit of information lately.

Link'd. (http://www.telltalegames.com/community/blogs/id-438)

That's a mistake on the part of Playr -- aside from that, enjoy watching Ben do his Wallace thang in the rest of the video though!

Just wanted to say that I *loved* the first episode. Bar a few minor glitches, it was absolutely superb. That you managed to get someone who even approached the supposedly inimitable Peter Sallis is a testament to the fine production values throughout. Loved the story and new characters - everything was so well done that it really felt like a new movie in the series, which is no mean feat. Loved the thumbprints and mouth animations which really added a touch of class to the whole affair. You've done Aaardman proud, Telltale! *salutes :)
