FMod is part of our sound system. I haven't heard of any problems with it yet causing a dll crash other than yours. Have your tried deleting the game and doing a fresh download/install?

Hmm, Realtek is usually pretty reliable. I can't find your support email at the moment, but did you try clearing it out of Steam and redownloading?

yes i did and still does it here is my issue code issue-16191
Ok, I'm a little stumped at the moment, so let's try a different path. Try doing a clean boot, and then starting up the game before doing anything else. This is on the off chance that something else is bogarting your sound control.
To Boot Clean in Windows XP
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart
8. After reboot, run game to see if it works.
After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click OK
4. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

Hey Ryu, when is it saying access denied?
Brian, you may have a completely different error. What does the error say and what are your system specs?

when i click it all off and the services and tell me access denied that i'm not the admin which i am
Yeah, that's probably your virus scanner refusing to be turned off. You can leave that one on.

Will:
Did you notice that in his system information, it says the display color depth is 16bpp? I seem to recall people previously having problems/crashes when running Telltale titles with the display at 16bpp depth; maybe he should try switching to 24/32bpp instead?
Oh wow, you are right. Hey Ryu, you will probably need to change your color depth to at least 32bit. Right click on your desktop, go to properties, then go to the settings tab and change your color quality to 32 bit.

Just a thought, but perhaps that should be a FAQ? Even better, the engine maybe should check for that and abort with a (somewhat) friendlier message about "Sorry, this game does not run in 16bpp depth, please use 24/32bpp depth instead", instead of imploding on start because it doesn't like the screen depth? Not that there's typically a reason to run at 16bpp depth anyway with modern graphics hardware, but it seems like enough people run into this that it's screaming out to be handled better. Just sayin'. :)
Actually, that is in the FAQ: http://www.telltalegames.com/support/#direct3d-error
In general, the FAQ is pretty out of date, but that at least is accurate.

What I don't get though is why the game would have a problem with that - it already switches the resolution, and when you're doing that you can also change the color depth along with it; many other games have been doing that for ages...
