View Full Version : So, I got a Wii for my birthday, and I need title recommendations, but...

...they have to be family titles. I know, I know, I wanted to get Strongbad and Sam & Max for the Wii, but it's become very clear from our conversations in the past with my family that the Wii I got on my birthday is actually "the FamWii."

Case and point: Nintendo's marketing actually worked on my mom who played the bowling part of the included Wii Sports to great enjoyment.

So now I'm looking into titles that will, ultimately, bring around a family game night of sorts. Anyone here have any recommendations?

Oh, and FYI, SBCG4AP and the Sam & Max titles are not up my family's taste in humor, so something like Mario Party would be a nice benchmark to go by.

Depending on the ages of your siblings (if you have any) and the patience of your parents to learn a control scheme, I would heartily recommend Super Smash Bros. Brawl. You can spend hours on that game with a group of people and never get bored.

If your siblings and/or parents prefer an easier control scheme, with more motion involved, Mario Kart Wii is another great 4-player game, although I would recommend that you get 3 extra wii wheels if you plan to get the game.

My family got a Wii for Christmas, and almost all of us are hooked on "Boom Blox." The controls are simple and there's enough variety in gameplay to keep things interesting. The amount of challenge is just about right for an all-ages game, neither too easy nor too daunting. Also, things topple over and explode in a pretty entertaining way. (Yay, physics engine!)

Unless your family isn't really into puzzle-based games, I can't recommend this one enough.

Brawl. Pretty much every other multiplayer game on on the console is swill.

I can't recommend Boom Blox enough. It's easily my favorite Wii game. It takes full advantage of the Wii controls, is easy to control though takes thought to truly master. It's a great title for multilayer, and it actually has an extensive and fun single-player campaign.

It's extremely visceral.

Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Boom Blox, Zack and Wiki, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, some VC games, World of Goo, and Metroid + No More Heroes for when the kids are away. I haven't played NMH, but I'm taking my friend's word for it.

Actually, Wii Fit is going to be a "Must Buy" for my family, as my parents are at that age where they need to take better care of their body but don't want to drive to the YMCA.

By the way, to better help you guys, my parents have just turned Senior Citizen age while my sister is 23 but has very limited gaming exerpiance/tolerance. I'm the experianced gamer in the family.:p

Oh... I thought that the FamWii meant that you shouldn't have any adult games. And Super Mario Galaxy IS multi-player, if bad at that.

Boom Blox will be getting a sequel later this year and it seems it will even more complete with an option to share your own levels and get others and many more unique puzzles. But since the first one should be pretty cheap it would make a great appetizer :D

Like I said; Brawl. I bought it on it's EU release date and I've yet to stop playing it. Hell, It brings me and my two brothers together. But that's mainly because we all like Nintendo characters.

With a balance board, Rayman Ravin Rabbids TV Party is an absolute scream if you have 3 or 4 players.

While not multiplayer, my mother and sisters loved Endless Ocean. And it's actually not a bad game at all, either. For a diving sim, it has plenty of objectives and collectibles. I'd highly recommend it, actually. Plus, it's one of the few games on the Wii that actually supports custom soundtracks, if only in a somewhat limited capacity.

Actually, wii fit has a two player jogging mode and Galaxy has a co operative mode.

and Galaxy has a co operative mode.

I've tried it and it is a JOKE. Trust me. It only makes the most difficult levels harder.

mainly when the player 2 keeps either
A. waisting your star bits
or B. keep hitting you with a so you jump all the time.
If they dont do that, it does help out a lot.

Got Mario Kart, and holy crap is that thing addictive! The fact that I have so many things to unlock is also a pain in the butt, but I'm enjoying it.

Mom kind of enjoys it, but apparently the tracks are too colorful and distracting to the point where she doesn't know where she's going.

I'm looking to get the remake of Punch-Out!! next week. Do you guys think it looks like a good game for the "FamWii?"

Boom Blox is awesome for casual gamers, and Smash Brawl IMO is the best game money can buy on WII at the moment. By far.

Mario Kart Wii is also decent, altough not the best Mario KArt they made...MarIo Party is also a winner!

Yes, Boom Blox is very fun, especially if you play it with someone else. There's also a lot of WiiWare games that can fit into that category, such as World of Goo (4-player co-op!) and Dr. Mario Online RX (Very fun game, especially the Virus Buster game).

I will also say Boom Blox. It's a pretty damned fun game and it's simple and easy to pick up.
