I'm surprised there's no thread about this yet, isn't Telltale games involved with this project? From the screenshots I've seen so far it's looking like a pretty funny/funky game.

You are confusing them with a different company. Gamefaqs' bio on the company: "TT Games was established in 2004 with the merger of publisher Giant Interactive Entertainment and the developer Traveller’s Tales."

Traveller’s Tales... Now they sound familiar... Oh. Sonic 3D Blast. That's it. Based on that, I think I'll pass on this game (not to mention, the Rockband series is overly milked).

Sometimes press incorrectly attributes the Lego games to us, rather than to TT Games. It's become a bit of a joke around the office. (And this started happening back when they were called Traveller's Tales... changing the name to TT Games only made it more confusing!)

If you do happen to see any articles that say we're making Lego Rock Band (or any other Lego games), could you send me a PM with the URL so I can contact them? Thanks!

Ok, I'm real sorry, this one might be my fault. I'm guessing I probably saw TT games and automatically thought telltale games completely forgetting about Traveler's Tales.:o

Anyway, I think this game looks...interesting. I loved Lego Island a lot, but I didn't like the Lego Star Wars games. They were amusing for about 5 minutes. It's nice to see two dying franchised combine! I await the results!

Personally, I think it's either going to rock, or fall flat.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Rock Band. Lego, not so much, but I think rockbands days are numbered.

What can you expect for a series that invented absolutely nothing?

Guitar - Guitar Hero
Singing - Singstar
Drums - Drum Mania

I doubt Harmonix will lose it

It is extremely easy to say aspects of one game were "stolen" from another. Execution of previous ideas matter. Telltale does episodic better than anyone else I've seen, for example. The episodic IDEA existed, and was done, but not nearly as well. In that same vein, Rock Band was the first(to my knowledge) to COMBINE these and make it a party game for more than one person, and to have a unified grading scale for multiple instruments.

Secondly, Rock Band is made by Harmonix. As in, the guys that made Guitar Hero. The Guitar Hero franchise was BOUGHT from them by Activision, who made Guitar Hero 3. So THAT game literally invented nothing. =p

Once they sold the franchise to Activision, they went on to make Rock Band.

And LEGO Rock Band isn't made for us. It's not made for gamers. The tracklist speaks volumes. This is Rock Band: Family Edition. It's for the people who want to play a game with fake instruments with their family, and have appropriate rock for the younger members of the family...while not hurting the "main" games by changing their ability to have good songs with mature themes.

And LEGO Rock Band isn't made for us. It's not made for gamers. The tracklist speaks volumes.

The tracklist has The Final Countdown on it, so I'm pretty sure it was made for me. The game also reportedly features a sequence in which you destroy a giant robot with the power of Rock. So yes, once again, the game is for me. :D

I would agree with the assertion that the LEGO game franchise is dying, had it been brought up right after Lego Batman came out. That particular style of gameplay has been beaten to death. However, the known LEGO games in development are a rhythm game, an MMO, and some kind of RTS game, so at least they're expanding beyond the "run-around-breaking-stuff" gameplay, which was what got stale. The characters remain adorable.

I don't think I believe the Rock Band franchise is dying on any level. Harmonix is smart to delay Rock Band 3 indefinitely, as another more-of-the-same edition would mark the series as on its way out. I'm more interested in their Beatles game than this Lego one, but in any case it's nice to see them trying to take things in different directions. Also worth noting is that DLC keeps things fresh in a series like that.

One other thing worth noting: Not only did Harmonix create the original Guitar Hero, they also created the original Karaoke Revolution. There's no real sense in arguing over who-did-what-first in terms of American rhythm games, since every one of them borrows heavily (often shamelessly) from Japanese rhythm games. :p

If Nintendo made a new game that was just Mario Bros. 3 in 3D it wouldn't be innovative, even if Nintendo created Mario Bros. 3 and platforming in general. The game itself has to be inventive, not just the company.

This reminds of the LEGO Halo April Fools joke.
But let's just see where this is going.
Seems like a bad idea, though.

Why can't they just make that a Downloadable song pack? All people want is the music.

This lego rock band thing, it's going to need brand new...everything.

Don't be so sure, it's going to pull in a LOT of people new to music/rhythm games. And if you just want the music, then just buy the configuration with Disc only and no instruments.

"The Beatles: Rock Band will be offered as standalone software and hardware as well as a limited edition bundle," Harmonix and MTV Games stated. "The game will be compatible with all Rock Band instrument controllers and other current music-based video game peripherals." The game itself will retail for $59.99 on all three systems, while the package with the guitar will sell for $99.99. The limited edition premium bundle, with all the instruments, will run you $250."

It would be the hugest wasted marketing opportunity of all time if The Beatles songs were only available as downloadable content.

Plus alot of people fail to realize that this is Rock Band's first band themed stand alone game. Guitar Hero has already made 2.

Guitar Hero:
1, 2, 3, World Tour, On Tour, Rocks the 80's, Aerosmith, Metallica, and in development: Guitar Hero 5, and Greatest Hits.

Rock Band:
1, 2, in development: Lego, and The Beatles.
So, I'd have to say the Guitar Hero franchise is wearing thin more.

Yeah, your right I just remembered most of those on the way home from work today, though I hadn't heard about the VH one. I hope it's not as bad as the Aerosmith and Metallica ones.
P.S. I also remembered Rock Band: acoustic.

I'll give you three guesses. Your choices are "Of course", "Yes", and "Well, yeah".

Anyhoo, has anybody seen the new Guitar Hero 5 screens yet? I like the idea of multiple numbers of one instrument type. Of course, an all-drum band could get rather angry-neighbors-y.
