Oh wow, that looks amazing! What did you use for the glow-in-the-dark bits in the beard?
Fimo, a plastic clay (cernit?) that you can burn in an ordinary household oven. Love that glow in the dark stuff, reminds me of a T-rex skeleton I had as a child. <3

What would you charge for one of those? Srs question. I have no idea. I just built it out of some clay that I got for "free" last term. And it's a few things that bother me with it that I could have done better, when I work on a piece for a long time I just focuse on the details and forget the whole "picture"... I recomend Laserschwert ;)

A few nights ago I had a weird dream about monkey island. I guess shortly after the event of Tales, Guybrush manages to finally defeats LeChuck and finds out something like the Secret of Monkey Island or something weird like that and he and Elaine became immortal. Fast forward to the early 20th century and the couple I guess finally have a baby girl. I guess due to the special circumstance of them being immortal, the girl has magical worth. The Mafia finds out about this and kidnaps Elaine. As it turns out the Mafia finds out there's one thing that can kill the two, and so they hold her up for ransom. They give Guybrush an ultimatum: hand over the girl, and they'll release Elaine, or come forward to watch Elaine die then die himself. And if he tries to run away, they'll kill all three of them.

...

And then the dream ended.

I liked the outfits they were wearing in the dream, so I drew it. Here's the rough pic.

On a related note, I considered doing a series of "Let's recast everyone in Monkey Island as A Christmas Carol characters!" illustrations a while back. I might still get around to doing it once it gets closer to the holidays -- partly because I would love a good excuse to draw them all in English, mid-18th Century clothing.

Hahaha I thought the same thing.
I think it can be handled well, as long as the kid is their own person, and not a copy of one of the parents or a mix of the two. And the story is its own story and not a repeat of the parents story or the same thing backwards.

Paint and spray varnish. Lots of spray varnish (love that stuff) to get a stronger surface and get back the lustre to the gold that it lost when I added the darker layers.

I just posted this at the Mojo forums and am shamelessly pasting it here (hence the confusing reference to these forums). Enjoy :D

Most of you will probably remember that when the LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition was announced, a picture of the promotional box art/poster was released. A lot of people were unhappy about the finished product (although, full disclaimer, I quite liked it), and some people over at the Telltale forums [did you spot the confusing reference?] took matters into their own hands and made some fixes/adjustments to it. I changed LeChuck's head and beard to look less block-like and, after realising how much I enjoyed it, I decided to create my own take on the original art.

It's not meant to replace either the Special Edition art or Purcell's original, both of which are great in their own ways (although Purcell's is obviously better >.>), it's just my own little art project that I wanted to do as a tribute to the original.

Since this isn't 1992 and I'm not being commissioned by LucasArts to do this, I didn't have to worry about spoilers and so I was able to put them in the underground tunnels where they were in the game. The more eagle-eyed among you will also notice that I've given LeChuck's eyes and needles some voodooey treatments, and I've given LeChuck a nice green spray tan. These are things that I think reflect the in-game scene that I'm depicting quite well, although that's no slight on the original art, which I think is arse-bogglingly brilliant.

The only problem I have with this picture is that it really doesn't look like something from a Monkey Island game--it feels more like some kind of fantasy world from The Neverending Story, or something.

But apart from that, it's absolutely stunning! I am incredibly jealous of those who have really strong layout design skills as you clearly do--that's something I could never master or enjoy. :(

I thought Spinner Cay looked Monkey Island-ish. I think it's just the colors in this fanart--they're too pastel-y and light to be Monkey Islandish, but that's just my opinion.

I personally don't mind it in the slightest if it's a little fantasy-ish like Spinner Cay. I mean the whole Monkey Island world doesn't have to consist of purely piratey places. I would actually like to see the fanatasy element enter the MI world a little, not entirely take over, but just be included a little more - which is what I see in this picture; a blend of classic MI locations as well as some fantasy.

Actually pretty nice, but you ignored the pixel aspect ratio of the sprite (the pixels in MI2 weren't square but rectangular), which makes him look too short.

The hair is a tad over done in my opinion. A little blurry too, Photo shop or my computer monitor?:D
