This is going to be a bit big.
Note: I havent; picked up a pen to draw in maybe 10 years. I was bored so I grabbed a ballpoint and jotted this.
wanted to have a little fun with something.

I wanted to play with the telltale Logo, so I turned it into the See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil Monkeys, not sure that comes over. Still it passed the time and is in no way as good as the other stuff in this thread. Flame away.

Its nice... if you want to know how to improve on it? I hate critiquing peoples stuff because im not exactly a pro but maybe be more mindful when you use photoshop filters for highlights and shadows.... By all means use them if they work but do not be afraid to get in there and do a little painting and touch-up....
Helped at all?
BTW

He has beard, but he doesn't have much, as evidenced by some of the dialogue.

I think it looks great pilouuuu! I think his beard is great! I don't really see what people are complaining about. It's great if you compare it to the cover art by Steve Purcell. But I guess everyone has their own vision of what he should look like :/
And I don't think he does look too tough at all. I always thought he should look a little tougher than that from the lines he comes up with in Monkey Island 2. I mean yeah he gets hung upside down and stuff but usually he tries to put on a tough face so as to be a mighty pirate :D

You can upload it to ImageShack (http://www.imageshack.us).
Browse -> Find your image -> start upload
When you've uploaded it, you'll need to copy the link at the top on the next page.
Now when you post a pic, press this http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif and paste in the url.

Well, because he's the mirror image of his former-self of course and left handed people are more often more prone to aggression then right handed people (apparently this is actually true)!

Can't compete with most of the stuff posted here, but I still think it's a cute image.
Keep in mind it was made by somebody who positively, absolutely can not draw and just decided to spend 2 hours in PaintShopPro and try his best.
http://tapper-ware.net/files/guybrushdrawing.png
I made this image to get a better understanding about how the MI2 Guybrush could be turned into hires. You'll notice the heavy shadows around the eyes: That's because they are there in MI2 too, and so is the beard. I originally drew this as an outline, but as it turns out it looks better with just the fill color and no outline.

I think it looked nicer without the outline. Also, I like the way you did the hair. Nice one :)
By the way, do you have a scanner because it's much easier to draw on paper and then colour in Photoshop, it would be cool to see what you come up with.
On an unrelated note, are there any other Brits here annoyed by the fact that the spellchecker on this forum is set to Bastardised-En... sorry, I mean American-English? It's spelt 'colour', not 'color' damn it ;)
Irishmile
07/20/2009, 09:30 am
All my stuff is done start to finish in Photoshop.... I think its just as easy to draw in PS as it is on paper.....
BTW picking on the way we spell color is ridiculous because the English got the word colour from the Latin word color... so it actually is COLOR ;)
hansschmucker
07/20/2009, 09:37 am
It's both. But is there even a spellchecker on this forum? I get the Firefox builtin one. And since I'm neither English nor American I can spell it whichever way I prefer.
BTW, I don't have a scanner and I really don't need one since my daily work is completely paperless.

Due to forum regulations and sensitive members, the drawing contains a censor bar to retain viewable for anyone, although, honestly, there's nothing there, no really... I just put the text there to be safe...
Regretably, i haven't even played a single MI game ever, although i'd love to, especially the third, i love the art style...

Yes I use a Wacom Intuos3 4 x 6-Inch Wide Format Pen Tablet.
I would love to get an Intuos4 with a bigger surface...
On Amazon right now you can get a little starter pen tablet for about $60
If you like drawing and painting with photoshop I really recommend getting a tablet... its worth the money.
The Wacom Bamboo
http://www.amazon.com/Bamboo-Small-Pen-Tablet-Only/dp/B000V9T2JA/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_2
The big difference between this one and the one I use is a little smaller surface (not much)... and mine is much more pressure sensitive.... I.E. press harder get darker and thicker lines.
hansschmucker
07/20/2009, 11:47 am
Sadly, I don't get to work with anything handdrawn that often, so I never really got used to tablets (had one for about 6 months before I broke it). When I deal with graphics it's usually in a more technical way.

Not sure you would call this fanart but it would be unnecessary to create a new thread :) When I made maps for Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, I had this epic idea about making a Monkey Island RPG map. However my laptop crashed and when I was backuping stuff I had put it on hold. I forgot the campaign file and only got my scenario files, which I worked on individually before making them into a campaign map. I put a LOT of effort into bringing all the attributes etc between maps.
The idea of the game was that you would travel the islands and enter the different places you had visited in the MI games. You would have attributes like Swordfighting, Pistol handling etc. I even included all the sword fighting lines and there was a system where you were shown a list of 9 random replies and 1 correct. Every level of Swordfighting removed one of the random replies. There was a timer included in this, where you had to answer before it or you lost. The idea with the timer was mostly for multiplayer so that one could be faster.
I also started on a story mode which I liked. A young man who just turned 18 at an orphanage gets a letter from the owner of the orphanage that she was told to give him when he turned 18. In the letter it says that he is the son of Guybrush Threepwood and at that moment of course he says "I want to be a pirate!", which makes the orphanage owner mad. She yells at him that she didnt raise him to become a filthy grog-drinking bum. He tells the wench to be quiet and he leaves for his epic quest to become a pirate. Summarized here of course :)
Anyways, I think a lot of work disappeared since the scenario files are not the most updated. If anyone is interested in looking at them in the game send me a PM.
Here is the "fanart" finally. This is the minimap of the world map which was the biggest map size possible featuring all islands from MI-EMI which was placed with help of the various maps found in the games. For those interested, this map gives a good hint: http://bestgamewallpapers.com/files/monkey-island/cmi-map.jpg

I see nothing wrong with a tasteful bikini picture... If it was full frontal nudity or even topless I could see some reason for concern.... To me it is no more shocking than seeing Guybrush in a pink dress or when his pants fall down and we see his undies in the second game...

I think you guys are missing the point. Even with the "censored" bar, the nudity is still there. When have you ever seen censor bars in a children's cartoon? I think these pictures should either be in their own clearly labelled thread or in a completely different forum.
Here are some examples of why this could be bad:
1. A Telltale employee decides to show their child fan art because they are begging for more Monkey Island goodness, unaware (and why should they be) that there are pictures of an adult nature.
2. One of those people who likes to sue others to get filthy rich, decides to sue LucasArts over the Monkey Island fan art that is "accepted" on this forum. LucasArts prevents TellTale from ever working on a Monkey Island game again and is forced to scrap the project.
And why is Elaine's bikini so skimpy anyway ¬_¬

The main problem with our society is that we consider the human body something of "adult nature". Why can't children see naked bodies? They're exposed to twice (or nth should I day) more violent content that apparently isn't as offending/dangerous as seein a nipple or a naked torso.

Opinion.
What isn't an opinion is Telltale's forum policy on what can and can't be posted. I'm not trying to be a moderator or anything. But America's "problem" with the human body is simply a communal decision amongst the countrymen that they want the image of the body censored before the age of eighteen. This is a forum for games. If you want porn or nude women go find a porn forum. Will you absolutely DIE if it's NOT posted on these forums?
EDIT: so yeah, we should go back to fan art. I offer a compromise that such images can be posted with a warning maybe for those who would be offended? I myself am not offended by it but but only care how Telltale feels.

*sigh* I put the censored bar back in, didn't I?
Anyway, it's just harmless fun, nothing more, nothing less. This is a fictional character. FICTIONAL CHARACTER. It's to me a bit like being offended of Donald Duck's lack of pants.
Micki found it fun to pose the character a bit... just a bit suggestive. Not pornographic. I decided to drop the censor bars, because there was really nothing to see there. 10 pixels more of a curve, that's about it. And even if you'd really consider this the equivalent of skin, you'll still see more nude skin when you look at a girl in a bikini.
Micki!

Not sure if this the right place, but I would like show you some artwork by Sergio Greco, since I'm not sure if he is active on this forum.
Sergio did the graphics for Return to Monkey Island, a fangame demo which can be downloaded from here - http://returntomi.altervista.org/rmi_setup1.1.exe
The plot seems a bit disappointing, since almost none of the characters are new, and the whole thing takes place on Melee Island (again!). The puzzles, on the other hand, are logical enough that I was able to figure them out without knowing a word in Italian.
Now, the graphics... Oh boy, the graphics.

To be honest, most of my praise was directed at the sprites and the imagination behind the sailing fortress. The backgrounds are decent for a fangame, but unlike the characters, they would be out of place in a commercial product, even back in the early 90s.

I gave it a shoot. What can I say? If I was an Italian, I would know what to do for today : ) The game seems monkeyislanish enough to be worth playing.
Can't say anything about the plot, cause I can hardly understand what's in my inventory (sugar, grog recepie, melasa, some flower, two cups, bamboo stick some more stuff) not to mention any line of dialog. Shame. Shall I write a petition to make author translate it to English? : )
Backgrounds are beautyful. Characters are rather ugly (especially Guybrush), but I don't care that much - all I need is to recognise them ; )
Shame I can't enjoy it, but it's pointless to play an adventure I can't understand...

I tried it out; I loved the music and some of the backgrounds are quite nice, but the blur effect made some of them really ugly. The game has atmosphere, and I liked most of the sprites. But I didn't like Stan or the Voodoo Lady. Honestly, it's not a bad start. The story seems to have something to do with a "tempo" and Guybrush and LeChuck are sent back in time for some reason. Not a bad effort.

But I clearly remember I actually saw the three headed monkey in EMI. Even more, I remember it was a 3D three headed monkey on a "Carnival of the Damned" 2D background, taken directly from CoMI. If you'd like to make good drawings, you will have to learn how to draw. This law is inescapable. Photoshop is the standard in the industry and widely used for its nifty effects, nonetheless, Painter is used by lots of artists. But with this program, you'll have even more problems if you're not familiar with drawing in the first place (as this program aims at simulating traditional painting materials). As for freeware, you could of course give GIMP a try. I've seen some marvellous pieces done with it.
Most of the really good digital pieces in this thread probably started out with a traditional pencil sketch on paper, which was then scanned and colored on the computer. And the skill of these artists would definitly be recognisable from those sketches. There are few who wouldn't sketch in a traditional manner first (my wild guesses would be Majus, our Wacom/Flash legend; Duate, who avoids outlines right away; and AdoC, who has an element of improvisation even in his most impressive pieces).
More thoughts on this?

from left to right we have: Murray tattoo concept, rough sketched Herman, Head 'o' the navigator in a jar (one of my favorites), what was originally LeChuck but became important looking pirate #1, Largo(top) and random pirate(bottom)
once again i invite anyone to try their hand at colouring these pics (especially the head of the navigator one) as i totally suck at it :p

The comic is the first part of a MI comic series i had bouncing around in my head where Guybrush actually would hear the "Walk To Door", "Pick Up Meat In Pot", etc. Problem was i couldn't decide whether the command line would be a booming Deity like voice from above or if they would be voices in Guybrushes head like a form of Schizophrenia. This comic is about the Guybrush's first encounter with The Voice.
I also managed to get some more sketches scanned sorted and uploaded, this time a Guybrush gallery :)

Yeah, ever since Bill Tiller's curly clouds in CMI, it's now common to put spirals on all things Monkey Island related. And although I'm not a big fan of the overkill of spirals in TMI and MI:SE (seriously, why on the knee and the chin of a man?!), I'm also not a big fan of empty backgrounds so I put them there because of the whole style :)

I've suspected it :) Bill's clouds pretty much made MI curly. And that's not all: I remember vividly the ships and trees in CMI, all winding and swirling. As far as I remember, they were also in voodoo-related things (swirling gas and so on). Apparently, they may have some spiritual significance http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/14/149.html

I like it, maybe add a third picture and shift them along slightly (so it fits of course). Just seems to me that the Voodoo Lady isn't the only other main character. Don't go overboard with them but I think it could do with just one more, 3 seems to make more sense to me.
Unless of course you didn't save it in layers and you have to do it all again, then don't bother :P
Edit:http://files.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland/MI101_desinge_airgun.jpg
How about that one? I think it would look best either in between Guybrush and the Voodoo Lady or on the right of them both. It wouldn't work on the left though due to how they are facing (and a flip is never a great idea when you don't have to)

I think the little Guybrush in a box is a bit superfluous, looks kind of silly having 2 Guybrushs right next to each other.

Okay here i´ve done it:)
You've made him a little small I think, you should keep the head proportions the same :O a little more improvement and it will be perfect :p

I've just been trying that camera projection technique that was used in those 3D Scabb Island vids that have been doing the rounds recently.

Nowhere near finished yet, but it's coming along nicely, I think.
Credit for the idea to do this goes to http://www.loneclone.de/projects/monkey.htm
edit: here's another version with the bits which are fully modelled highlighted

Sorry for the double post, but I've done a lot more to the scene since last night.

Still need to fix some textures to work from other angles but I'm just going to focus on the modelling for the time being.

it's nice but it's still low resolution so it accomplishes nothing. use the higher res version that is floating around...

Yeah, I've got the high res concept art but there's a massive crease down the middle which throws everything off.
I wouldn't say it accomplishes nothing though, I can still pan around it in 3D, there's the lighting and things I can tweak, and it's getting me some general practice in 3D modelling.
edit: uggffff i hate sounding defensive like i can't take critique. i guess i'm just trying to say i'm not going for a professional mi2 special edition look. i'm just messing about with what i've got and seeing what happens.
