Bytheway - I don't know if it's appropriate to post this here - but I'm working on a little point 'n click game, for which I made the backgrounds in MS paint x3 here's a screenshot if you care to check it out ^ o ^

I do have some pieces of MI fanart of my own (mainly CMI), on my deviantART account. Like this one for instance:
The Final Curse

Or for a little crossover:

As well as a "What-if" picture:

If you'd like to see more of my older drawings, tell me. I'll also upload new work, if you're interested.

He, he, alright, with six people asking for more, I can't disappoint you. ;) Unfortunately, I already gave away my best stuff, but let's see if you like my less perfect art, too...
This was one of my first CMI fanarts, called "Brothers actually...?", a pretty disturbing what-if-scenario:
http://fc07.deviantart.com/fs18/f/2007/224/3/5/Brothers_actually_____by_beekay84.jpg
Inspired by a scene from the "Secret of Monkey Island" school play (for more info, ask World of MI or YouTube):
http://fc09.deviantart.com/fs28/f/2008/118/9/d/I_have_Elaine___screw_you_by_beekay84.jpg
And this was a request for a friend:
http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs39/f/2008/335/9/a/Reward_for_atlantiluna_by_beekay84.jpg
I also made an attempt at drawing ToMI fanart, still using CMI comic style, but this very ugly sketch (http://fc07.deviantart.com/fs51/f/2009/262/2/a/Tales_of_MI_sketchy_Sketch_by_beekay84.jpg) that came out tells me ToMI and CMI don't really go together.

Nothing, except they only fit into MI if they're Ozzy Mandrill (even then, not particularly well, seeing as Australia wasn't colonised by Europeans until the 1800s)

Hmm, I don't see it. I base a lot of my illustration style, not just pirates, off of one of my favorite artists, Brett Helquist. Because of that I tend to make noses and chins in Western style artwork pointier than normal.

I didn't know where else to post this, I don't do much art and it's not really monkey island related I decided to draw it before I went to bed. I'm not really an artist, wouldn't call myself one, used to but that was a long time ago when I actually did art. I drew this tonight and I wanted to share it with someone. It's just a sketch before bed time.

This isn't strictly fan art related, but its art related.
Does anyone know of any high-res versions of Elaine concept art for Tales of Monkey Island? Like a complete version of the one on the main page at the moment? (http://www.telltalegames.com/) I had a quick trawl through the Private Pirate Club, but didn't find anything up to the point IE crashed because it doesn't like the TTG VIP sub-site.

You should artists are like puppies they aim to please if someone likes their stuff they want to hear it... artists share their stuff to please others or we wouldn't bother doing art for free on fan sites....
But there is a place for constructive criticism too... I personally do not like ragging on peoples skill level because that isn't fair... but lets say someone makes Guybrush's coat green its ok to say "hey I'm pretty sure GB has always worn blue coats."
But skill level takes practice some art here I have seen and thought yuck but you know what at least they are sharing and getting some tips and not giving up.... and I'm sure some people with more skills than I have thought the same about my art.

I'm sure that doesn't quite hit the mark. Artists are... well, artists; what they draw always has their personal vision, and that means that, of course, there is an alienation from the original game art. For some, the goal might be to mimic the original games as closely as possible - that's OK. But if I wanted to draw Guybrush with a green coat, I'd do it. Others have given him a moustache, imagined him as a heroic, muscular figure; I particularly recall an Elaine vision in this thread which is just brilliant, although one wouldn't recognize Elaine because of the alterations. Doing this, reimagining the characters, is not only "OK", but very, very necessary in a lively artist community.
Constructive criticism is not criticism of the personalizations of a piece of art. It might center on technique, maybe on anatomy, picture composition and color schemes etc. Of course, that is exactly what you did not want: This is a critique that exclusively centers on the "skill level" of a certain artist. These tips and hints, however, are all more or less pro stuff and should be explicitly wished for by the artist. Apart from this, I consider this thread to be one of purely presentational nature.
Furthermore, expressed criticism, however constructive it may be, always stems from the feeling that one could certainly do better in certain aspects. It must always be kept in mind that this is always a perspective looking down on something, of superiority. I won't say that constructive criticism hasn't got a place in here, particularly if the art poster expresses the wish to improve, but... careful, careful, careful. People come here to contribute to something, and the main goal is enjoyment by all involved.

Well, you suck !

Colour would look good but it would eliminate the 50s/60s B&W film style (which I rather like)

It would have been more intelligent for the reason for sucking to be for the contradiction.
"Artists should get constructive criticism about their work"
"But don't do it because it might upset them and they won't post any more of their artwork"

LOL how did this thread become so hostile? I haven't been following it so I won't butt in too much but I love it when people tell me my work is COMPLETE GARBAGE, no really...because then I become obsessed to make it better in both of our eyes. I love my work too much to tear apart all by myself, I usually need some one else to tell me they hate it for me to try to make something for more ideal for us, just for the sake of sharing something. I still love my own art work, even if it looks flawed to others and I think every artist should love his/her art work even if it looks horrid to others. After all the artist has to be the creator and capture the spirits of others figuratively by asserting his own. I've always loved my work even when I knew it was mediocre but I never stop trying to improve upon it when people told me it was *BEEP*

Criticism is fine as long as it is constructive, respectful and not bashing. It makes you get better. The problem with art is that many people may be critic about it without respecting its creator's feelings and without the intention of positive enhancement, but I guess it's a part of life as many great creator were bashed on their early careers.
It's better to become more able to tell good criticism from bad one and to become more resistant to bad ones and simply ignore them, not just in art, but in life in general.
Anyway it's great to see so many talents here and those that still don't develop them fully, is great that they feel the confidence and will to share their works and are having fun in the process.

Humans have come so far, and yet they still base so much on gender. There should be a neutral pronoun in all languages for a person.
On a forum like this, talking about what we are (and those of us talented enough putting forward what they do), gender has no place.

just kidding! anyway here in Italy, we have something like that. If you say "he's very talented" or "she's very talented" in italian it sound like "ha molto talento": we don't necessary need to put the subject. It's the same with "I love his work"/"I lover her work". In italian it is "Mi piace il suo lavoro": it's the same for both genders. :D

Or you know, writting, making dolls, sculpting, whatever. You might be afraid of letting anyone see what you're doing but you'll stop making progress if you don't get criticism... if possible from people better than you and from people who don't do it at all (for instance, advice on a book from someone who doesn't write, but who reads a lot).
Learning to take the criticism is the hardest part. It can feel like a personal attack. You put your heart and soul into your creation.
But in the end, it's true, it might be crap. And if you know why, you can salvage it or do better next time.
I tend to dislike criticism such as "it sucks" or "it's great". Sure, the "it's great" is better to hear, but it's not helping. You might as well say nothing to me at all.
I'd rather hear what you liked (or disliked) and why.
Now let's go back to people showing off their art :P

I'd be honored! :p but let me tell you something: A really good exercise in order to improve your skills would be look and study the great artists of the past. For instance, do you like drawing horses? Well, take a look at Eugène Delacroix's and Leonardo's studies on horses. Oh, and study horses in real life too.
It's the same thing for humans. Take an artist you particularly like and look at his/her work. And so on. And study some anatomy too: it's veryveryvery helpful. :p

You're right, Ellison. Now that I think about it, I've actually learned a lot about drawing from my friends who love to draw. AND from studying the things I like to draw up close. Having a good perspective and knowing where the light is coming from helps with shading, too.

It's actually likely. It would be one of the few ways to bring back Stan at such a late stage in the episodes - and Stan should have ended up a lawyer anyway; and with the trial undoubtedly being held on Flotsam Island, DeSinge would naturally be there. As for the identity of the Judge, I think we already had a name from the sign on the door, so one of the Goodsoups is probably out of the question. Good thought though! :D
@yoshiwam: Excellent composition, great drawing. No need for color or refinement, just do another one! ;)

it was intentional. throughout chapter 3 she kinda always had this wonky left eye, and i took it as just a part of her character. maybe she's a *little* insane or something, i dunno. but i definitely did it intentionally in the art

I used the Murray model from Tales and a picture of a human adult male's skull for reference if anyone wanted to know.... I of course leaned more towards the TTG skull obviously.

You over did it in my opinion. You should download a program called LucasRipper, you can use it to edit sprites and view sprites from Lucas ARts games in your photoshop programs, it helped me make sprites when I used to do it.

Others may love it but it doesn't look right to me. :)
http://amphomepage.com/temp/lee/Guybrush-Animation-Sprites.jpg
I finally put my finger on your number one problem, that is atleast in my eyes...it's no where smooth enough even for a sprite, it looks blurred. It's not as easy as you might assume but I can tell you catch on fast. You need more solids for one thing. It's a mastery of tones and solids and defintion with careful and sleek design, too many blocks and it looks like....a big mess. Could just be me but I don't think you've mastered it yet but it's a good start in my eyes, could be perfect to someone else...

I attempted drawing another scene from ToMI in CMI comic style, and this time, I'm quite content with how it turned out - well, except for the very poor background, but as I think I've mentioned before, I suck at drawing perspective, straight lines, ships or anything like it.
Anyway, here it is:
http://www.deviantart.com/download/139396157/Tales_of_MI_Sketch__The_Victim_by_beekay84.jpg
I hope you like it. I'm in the process of coloring it (without drawing new outlines), just to see what it looks like. Maybe I'll post that, too, then or I'll make a really refined colored version some time.
@Spadge: *lol* Very attractive! :D But seriously, nice one! Looks great, especially for a quick drawing. ;)
By the way, where did you get that avatar? Made it yourself from one of the others, or do they offer that many ToMI avatars now?

yes I paint on the computer using photoshop CS3 and painter IX I use a Wacom intuos 3 pen and tablet...... Making it look hand drawn on paper takes a little more time but I needed to for that Purcell look. (at least his comics)
I almost regret not making it normal morgan... almost..... But I kind of like the whole bride of LeChuck thing she has going on... she would make such an interesting evil character.

There's nothing painstaking or awe inspiring about it but it was what i was feeling at the time. It's monkey island art for a change. lol. Traditional media...

You need to get yourself a scanner buddy.
Its very stylized... I like it when artist put their own flavor into something.

I was trying to do something a little different, but I'm also lazy. Your work has a lot of time and effort put into it. I mostly just focus on my college work. :)
Your work is amazing, I don't know what your profession is but you really got an eye for art and know how to mimick it and have a clear "communication" with it. You really "know" and comprehend art. You got a mind for it. When I saw you max art work I honestly was reminded of something or rather I've seen in the past by Steve.
You got alot of talent, but I liked your murray more because it was your own flavor as you mentioned earlier...still it's awesome to see you be able to do different things.

I have two great ideas for the Halloween Contest if anybody wants to take them on (PM me or email tbmoore1986@yahoo.co.uk):
One needs a competent Metal rhythm guitarist, competent also in audio sampling/mixing, in posession of the Sam & Max games and the necessary hardware
The other requires a good knitter who's played Sam & Max and maybe has experience & tools in papier macher
I'm only after being creditted for the idea, nothing else. I'll post more ideas as I come up with them. I'm happy to work with ppl who want to make something of these to get the products more refined.

I agree with this to do the whole zombie thing so flesh rot, holes, teeth...blood shot eyes, or blacked out eyes... that sort of thing.

I can not remember what the last thing I painted on canvas was....
Its just so much simpler to paint on my PC, no cleaning brushes, getting out or mixing paint and its cheaper too.
Its strange I do not own anything I have physically painted its either been given away or bought.

Hmm, is that your style? How often do you paint. It's interesting but I wonder about it's details because I don't know your style.

Yeah I LOVE Paco Vink's comic, too, and it's a shame he hasn't continued for ages.
But there really was no need to post ALL the pages, you could've linked to the first page, and then you can turn the pages on the site.

I was reading through the comic, and it stops at the EXACT place that I am in my current play through.

When I first read this I thought you were talking about Monkey Island 1 and 2 and Ron Gilbert. Then I read the previous page. I have been reading too many Monkey Island topics.
