Was wondering whether Purcell will do the tales of monkey island cover in a realistic style like he did for the first two games or will he be doing it in the more cartoony style that the new games have?

What would people prefer? (just curious, i feel it would look awesome regardless since Purcell is a fantastic artist.)

Well, I could go for either.. but two years ago at San Diego Comic-Con I asked him to do a sketch of Guybrush for me, and it's more cartoony than his Monkey Island cover artwork.. so perhaps it will be closer to this?

Wow, that's awesome! How nice of him to take the time to do that for you. Do artists at conventions typically take requests from fans like that?

I think it depends on how busy they are. He was at his booth doing autographs and small sketches. He had to pause for a moment when I asked him and think what Guybrush looked like because he'd been drawing Max all day long. I don't think it's something he gets asked about often enough.

Last year however he had an entire panel at the convention dedicated to himself and his work.. there was some pretty awesome concept artwork from Monkey Island that he showed off that had pretty much never been seen before. I hope it resurfaces in his blog, thanks to TMI.

Well, the artwork for LeChuck's Revenge remains probably my favorite computer/video game covers of all time. So, I'd love to see something in exactly that style on the new game.

Of course, I'm sure whatever he ends up doing will be brilliant.

It's going to be hand-painted, at any rate. As a pre-order exclusive, I'd hope it'd be done in the style of the old covers, as a gift to long-time series fans who would be the ones to pre-order anyway(other than die-hard Telltale fans I guess).

Hopefully the style will be similar as in the first games. LeChuck did look really good on the cover of LCR.

That cover is probably the most iconic Monkey Island image around, and easily one of my favourite pieces of game-related art.

Yeah, the cover for MI2 was awesome. I remember (This was the days before the internet had taken off so I didn't see the box ahead of time) pulling it out of the shipping box and looking at the cover for the first time. Steve Purcell is the man. :)

I assume he's going to be a little more cartoony here, like on his old concepts:

If you see him ask him if he minds if I marry his artwork..... its gotta be legal somewhere right? First I have to convince my wife its cool.

BTW just kidding I'm not an artophile.... im pretty sure its not even a word. But his art is really cool.

Tie him to a chair and force him to publish "The Art of Steve Purcell". Okay, okay, hold that until AFTER he has done the TMI-painting.

It's legal in Japan. :p

I can't wait to see what the art will look like. Is the work on it going to last all the way through the course of the TMI season?

This image reminds me of the robot pirates from Ratchet & Clank Future.

from the small parts of the cover that were shown on twitter and also his blog i would assume that the style is more like the above character sketches..more like his original style. the mi2 cover is completely awesome, but i wouldn't say it's a typical steve purcell drawing.
so, the limited cover will also have to fit the tales style somehow...a little more cartoony than mi1 or 2, but somewhat less than curse or escape.

His desk resembles mine... How come I can't draw like that if we have the same type of desk??

MI2 box is my favorite, too. I remember when I got it, I think it was a Christmas or birthday present, I unwrapped it and stared in awe at the cover for probably 10 minutes (holding my breath, maybe?).

Oooookaaaaayyyy.... there was a picture of Steve Purcell's desk in this thread, and at the time, I'm trying to find that picture. Desperately. Yes, it's been more than a year. Can anyone help me with that?? ;)

/edit: Found it (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DTVwWsE92hw/SlHZ4AM0vtI/AAAAAAAAAPw/X9EwhGBRZN0/s1600-h/underpaint.jpg). That was hard, actually. You'd think it'd still be on the TTG site, but IT ISN'T.

Okay, he uses Liquitex acrylics. Still... how does he do it? ;)
