Did Lee Doom the Teacher? (ep.2)

Did Lee doom the teacher when he cut his leg off?
Not from losing blood or anything, but from using an infected weapon on him? He killed a walker with that axe maybe 5 minutes before there is no way that thing was sanitary.

right! but it was a fast choice not a rational thinking moment

Interesting observation. I never gave that a thought (since he dies whether or not Lee leaves him in the trap and it's revealed that the virus is in everyone), but it does seem that he was doomed no matter what now that you mention it.

He did appear to die from the loss of blood though, since Katjaa didn't have anything to close the wound up with. Without some kind of surgical suture, there's no way that he could have lived, even without the zombie infection.

I still think it's the blood loss, cuz when Duck got bit, he got real sick, but was still (barely) alive after a hour, give or take, later. The teacher died like 10 minutes after we brought him back to the base :L
Or maybe it's the combined effects of both blood loss and the zombie blood thing :P

if i remember right it takes anywhere from 3 minutes to 18 hours to turn, so you cant really know for sure if the leg speeded up his infection

Interesting theory but there is one character in the comic and one int TV show which gets bitten and then they get their bit limb cut off, and then they are ok.

I don't think walker blood alone is particularly dangerous, otherwise the TV cast would be in serious trouble since they're always getting covered in walker blood. On the other hand using a dirty axe didn't help matters, but I think the lack of proper surgical equipment back at the motel was what doomed him more than anything else.

I think they are pretty careful not to get the blood in their eyes and mouth in the show, I know I would. I don't know how far the comics go with scratches and blood but it seems pretty risky to get walker blood in an open wound.

Nah, he was screwed either way.

Too many zombies around to make moving David (trap and all) practical and not enough time to prepare and conduct a proper amputation.

Although I'm thinking even a hastily made tourniquet might have been a lifesaver.

To be honest he shouldn't have died from that injury. If it'd been higher up the leg then yeah but the blood flow and pressure down by the ankle should have been low enough for it to stop bleeding or at least bleed slow enough to be repaired.

Wow, Good job pointing that out. Interesting observation, young chap. But, yeah. It was probably blood loss but now that you mentioned this... I don't know what to think!

I thought you were infected regardless of how you died. Ben told them after the teacher came back to life at the hotel "Didn't you know? You don't have to be bitten to come back to life."

and he proceeds to tell them about one of the girls in his class who took pills and slipped away. She was later found as a walker. She was never bitten at all.

Also the boy in the attic in episode 4. He starved to death and I don't think he was bitten. He came back to life as well.

You turn if you die
You turn if you're bitten and infected (amputation can prevent this)

As far as everyone being infected, you need to think of it more as being a carrier or passively infected. It's only activated at death or once bitten.
