Beyond good and evil...Worth checking out?
As I was trying out the demo for the Wii U exclusive Rayman Legends. I heard a guy at gamestop asking the girl at the desk about a sequel to a game caleld Beyond Good and Evil. After returning home from xmas shopping I did some research on this game, turns out it was from the Rayman creator. I remember hearing some off and on news about a sequel.
The last thing I heard about it was that it was going to be made for the "next gen" consoles(Wii U, as well as the successors to both PS3 and 360). Before this sequel comes out(whenever the hell thats going to happen) should I check out and play Beyond good and evil? If so, which version is worth the purchase? |

Get the PC version. Infact, you can get it from GOG right now for $5! http://www.gog.com/gamecard/beyond_good_and_evil |
Oh my word, yes! I can't recommend it enough. It's simply one of my favourite games of all time; seriously, it's a top fiver for me, and I'm confident that it will remain there permanently. It's not often that you come across a game with such personality, such alive environments, such great characters, such diverse gameplay without it feeling gimmicky or dissonant, and such a terrific story that balances darkness and whimsicality so, so perfectly. The entire game is just such a rewarding experience, and is not one you will regret. Buy the game, devote your full attention to it, invest yourself in the experience, and immerse yourself in the world. This game is MORE than just 'worth checking out'. :)
Edit: And I would also recommend getting the PC version. But this could simply be because I (somewhat biasedly) believe that the PC is hands-down that best gaming platform, full stop. |
It is the best game Ubisoft has ever done.
It is the best game Michel Ancel has ever done. It's a modern sci-fi action adventure that mixes colorful environments and antropomorpic characters with a rather dark atmosphere, takes Zelda gameplay influences and to the fighting adds sneaking, racing, flight and photography. Characters, storyline, music, technology ('Jade' engine supported three Prince of Persias afterwards), design, gameplay, diversity, graphics, collectables: unsurpassed. The sequel is eagerly awaited by the fans. BG&E will celebrate its tenth anniversary in November next year, and it's very unlikely that a sequel will be out by that time. It costs next to nothing today and will give you six to ten hours of great, concentrated fun. I've played it both on PS2 and PC, and I massively prefer the PC version! GOG rules. |
Yeah i got the HD PS3 re-release and it's pretty fun, I'm still stuck on the last boss. Here's a great review of the game from one of my favorite reviewers :)

Uhhhh it's one of the best games ever made.

But it's not actually a fast fight. Take your time, concentrate to block your instincts, it'll work out. |
Oh yes that final boss. I made my cousin write down the sequence and then read it out loud for me.
|
The biggest pain was having the fight the part of the fight inside Jade's ship.
|
Without a doubt, yes it's worth it. I like the HD console version myself.

I dont have a PS3, but is the PS2 version or Gamecube version any good to check out?
|
Sure! There is one particular part where I hated the PS2 controls... but it's doable with a bit of patience. I will recommend the PC version once more, though.

Oh, it absolutely is. What's new in the so called HD versions are the 2D menu and HUD icons, which actually were redone. But all textures in the "HD" console versions are now the ones which have been used in the PC version all along.
