Quick question

How does the walker population never thin? And why is the military unable to get this under control?

Oh yeh :P but in others the military and police get swarmed somehow

I've got another question: in The Walking Dead, does the same thing happen all around the globe, or just the USA?

That's one of the most realistic zombie "apocalypse" scenario: headshots are not so easy in real life, people's reaction was genuine, the army doesn't take ages to know how to handle zombies.

I know in the TV show, Jenner mentioned that the French had been working on a cure.

#1 the walker population doesn't decrease because the virus is within everyone. no matter how you die, be it due to old age, car accident, shooting or zombie bite, EVERYONE turns into a zombie (unless brain was destroyed beforehand).

#2 this is the only legitimate question. the zombies in the TWD universe are soooooooooooo slow it should not be any problem whatsoever for the army to handle them. But it would be boring to simply have the army clean them all out and thus only have to deal with the people who are dieing. Sometimes logic has to be ignored to make the walking dead universe work.

Its global. They state it on the comic books, althought this is a meta-info.

Yeah but people know that now, and are keeping their dead from coming back.

Here's some possible explanation:

I think that's just one of those things you kinda have to accept with the genre. That despite there being several world superpowers with first class militaries, almost everything is completely overrun by slow moving corpses that eat people.

I just rationalize it that the initial panic created by the discovery of the living dead leads to massive instability and a chain reaction of events where mankind wipes most of itself by fighting each other and the zombies are just what's left of our own mistakes.

Imagine people swarming military bases for protection, getting shot by the military out of fear of being overrun. Rescue operations constantly being wrecked by too many survivors rushing helicopters and more desperate individuals trying to shoot their way to safety. It plays in with the whole Humans are monsters theme you see in a lot of zombie media.

I really have more of a problem with sneaky zombies. When people see them, zombies are slow shuffling stinking sacks of meat who moan loudly at all times. When people don't see them, they're whisper quiet ninjas who hide in the shadows and only strike when their prey is near. Like those three that show up at the train station in Episode 3. How the fuck did they sneak up on Lee and Clem from nowhere?

I agree absolutely. Suspension of belief is key if we are to have any fun with zombie stories.

I think authors in the genre either choose to ignore or are simply ignorant of just how much destructive power (and its effects) most militaries possess plus the adaptability of soldiers. Otherwise, there won't be a zombie genre.

World War Z is probably one of the worst examples in this regard.

Great movie. Still my favorite part is "Are they still out there?" (Slowly walks to window, opens curtains, zombies scratching up against the window, slowly closes the curtains, walks back over and calmly says "Yeah"

As for the population never thinning. New zombies are made everyday. In TWD universe everyone is infected, so people starving, heart attacks, murder, bites, anything like that could happen every day making new zombies.

Although most movies and such dont make it too far along in the ZA, so maybe it would eventually end after the population is gone and the bodies rot and return to the dust from which they were taken.

As for military... my explanation is there are only so many bullets, so much gas, and so much food. if you are trying to supply an army the supplies will go fast. Then they will be nothing more than normal people scavenging off the land waiting to be eaten or die from starvation.

I think the national guard would be plenty equipped. Don't need to worry about cover or suppressing fire as the walkers are not shooting back.

There's a lot of things that confuse me with the zombie apocalypse... How can a zombie bite through skin and bone so effortlessly? How can the zombies survive so long, they should really be turning into skeletons.

Amongst other questions, I've just learned to accept it all. Zombie apocalypses are fun mediums and shouldn't be riddled with such unnecessary questions.

Yep. The whole zombie thing is pretty ludacris to begin with.

The I am Legend Movie brought up a very plausible way for zombies to overrun everything (though it never realized that it was supposed to be about vampires) by killing off a massive amount of the population instantly through its virus...If you added making the Walking Dead survivors immune to the airborne strain like in said movie, you'd basically wipe out all major military, and have zombies outnumber humans by billions as the recently dead would all rise again...I also like to think that how intact the body was when it got zombified, dictates how long it would last...So Lee with all his functioning organs and no bodily wounds besides the bite (and sometimes the missing arm) would last quite awhile. Maybe zombies eat flesh and drink blood (sorta) as nourishment as well as to spread itself...also the virus could combat bacteria (if not stop decay, then at least drastically slow it down) and other diseases that enter the body through any wounds the zombie has as its faster at adapting and beating your immune system then Ebola and can one up every other virus by successfully taking over your body, so maybe it could act as a zombie immune system as well. I know its all pseudo-science i just spouted but if you can except the idea of a virus being able to manipulate the brain completely instead of just drive you crazy mad-cow style, then i think these ideas would cover most of the probs with a zombie apocalypse...let me know what you think:)
