Not happy telltale, Charged almost double!

Ok, so I pre-ordered wallace and gromit for 26 dollars, but my credit card details said I was charged 39.75 which wasn't detailed ANYWHERE on the Telltale Transaction! What's the deal Telltale? I know this is possibly cause of conversion of US dollars to AUS dollars but this is the first time of such!

Not happy, please explain

EDIT: I did see in Telltale Games Invoices (On the site I mean) I was charged 3.50 for SBCG4AP but no tax for Sam and Max Season Two or Wallace and Gromit, and all of the transactions were accurate in accordance to bank statement, with the exception of wallace and gromit

Someone will take a look for you when it's back to business hours in California (~10 hours from now people will be back in the office), but in the mean time if you have any questions, you can also write in to support@telltalegames.com so it'll end up in the support system.

Okay, thanks.
By the way i'll probably not be there at that time.

I'm curious, are you saying that you're usually charged the same amount of Australian dollars as the given price in US dollars? When I buy stuff from America, I'm always charged according to the exchange rate. Also, the amount you were charged sounds right to me. I won't be able to preorder until PayPal is working again, but I checked the exchange rate when I tried to earlier, and it was around 40 dollars.

Yeah, I am usually charged the same amount in AUS as US, some things I got tax, but even like cds and shirts Ive had the same price as US, rather confounding I have to say, I wouldnt of minded had it been mentioned earlier but it wasnt.

Edit: I noticed that you're in Australia as well, do you get conversion rates?

Molokov 03/19/2009 02:42 am

My purchase was AUD$39.83... which I guess is about right, considering the exchange rate.

Lachlan... last year things were better and the exchange rate was 90 US cents to 1 AU dollar... hence you may have noticed purchases at the time seemed to be 1 for 1. But the rates dropped late last year, so it's not so great right now.

But hey, the 25% off deal is a good one, just imagine how much more it would be if you had to pay the full price.

I just checked the order, and you were charged $26 USD. We always charge in USD, but credit cards usually display the amount in your local currency, so that's likely what's going on here. You can contact your credit card company to make sure.

If you're not happy with the price in AUD and want it canceled and refunded, let me know. Sorry for the unexpected surprise.

Well I don't mind thats its charged in US but this is the first instance of such
Like, if I was informed before I purchased it how much it would be in my local currency that'd be cool, but all other times I paid the exact same price of US to AUD! Why is this the first

Molokov 03/19/2009 01:33 pm

Lachlan, I can not believe that you have purchased items in USD only to be charged in AUD in past... I think it's possibly that the exchange rate was closer to 1:1 when you did those purchases.

Your credit card statement should say what the USD price is under the original entry, mine always does. I've bought things from the US and UK online for many years now (yes, quite a few off Amazon, usually) and there's /always/ an exchange rate involved.

If you want to know what it'll cost you in AUD, just run the total through www.xe.com or other online currency converters to get a ballpark figure.

And AUD$40 is still bloody cheap for a computer game (or rather, four computer games, or six if you include the two free ones!) considering the majority of games instore are $80 or more...

----

There was a period last year where Telltale added GST to purchases from Australia due to some bad information from one of their providers. Eventually after a lot of investigation, it was decided that this was an error (purchases outside Australia shouldn't be charged GST) and they refunded the tax we had been charged. This turned out to be beneficial to me, as the exchange rate had dropped so I ended up with a little more in AUD than I had been charged... (less than a dollar, but hey).

We have always charged in USD. We're not set up to accept any other currency. You could call your bank to ask if they have changed the way they handle purchases made in USD.

Will do, thanks

Molokov 03/20/2009 03:52 pm

Good to see now the purchase page (http://www.telltalegames.com/store/w...randadventures) mentions the approximate price in your native currency! That should hopefully avoid confusion in future, Lachlan!

Lachlan_is 03/20/2009 10:09 pm

(Conversion is approximate. All orders billed in US dollars.) I dont want to sound cocky but I think I sparked all that! wasnt there when I ordered
