Right. In those days there was no Hint Forum you could go to when you were stuck. You'd pretty much have to figure it out for yourself, or buy the hintbook. Did anyone here ever call hint hotlines...

For those still having problems:
After using the weathervane, you have to walk to the screen in the direction that it points to.
