Its entirely feasible and its been done before. Bioware did a seperate voice over for the player character in dragon age 2. You had the option to be either male or female.

At the very end when the game gives you a run down of all the different characters it says Kenny was lost to the herd. And after playing the game through a second time Im convinced Lee died as well....
