Hmm, I guess it's just Guybrush's loveable charms then. Yeah, that's it.

I don't think so. That dock scene in Secret of Monkey Island after Sherrif Shinetop
tries to drown Guybrush definitely gave me the impression they have a romantic interest in each other. Especially now with the special edition and Alexandra Boyd's performance of "I don't want you to be distracted..." Saucy.
Then there's the scene at the end with the fireworks, where you can say something silly, or romantic.
I don't remember much about Monkey Island 2, but there's the whole bit at the Govenor's mansion where she's trying to tell Guybrush she isn't interested, but then don't you get to talk her around and admit that she really does have feelings, still?
And I totally buy the marriage proposal in Curse of Monkey Island and the wedding at the end. I love that! After a third game you expect things to have moved on. You can't just have Guybrush and Elaine going through some endless loop of cat and mouse games in every game. I'm glad they got hitched in the end.
Because in Escape of Monkey Island, you start to see a whole new dynamic between them with the open quips of affection, funny pet names, marriage jokes and other things.
And I like how in Tales of Monkey Island they seem to really be working more as a team married couple! You get funny moments like in Launch of the Screaming Narwahl's opening where LeChuck still wants Elaine to be his bride and Guybrush gets to point to his ring and say "look, buddy we're married!" (not a real quote, but paraphrasing).
And in Siege of Spinner Cay you get to see interact more with Elaine than ever before and that moment
where she's pinned by the falling statue and Guybrush runs over to her was really emotional!
Just my observations...
