You can't drastically change the art style in a game developed the way Telltale's games are made. The later games in a season rely on the ability to re-use some assets, whether they're character models, locations, or objects, to speed along development and allow for the schedule that they have. It's a lot like a TV sitcom that re-uses a lot of sets and costumes week after week. Things like The Animatrix and the horrible Batman rip-off release require completely different teams that are generally large enough to do this sort of thing on their own doing their work concurrently. Telltale is nowhere near being big enough for that kind of development to be done in-house by them while keeping anything close to a decent release schedule, and they'd also end up eating a lot of resources and cost in the meantime.
