If I'm not mistaken, the serial key only works with an internet connection, and it only exists for if you're having trouble getting into your user so that it activates automatically, and there is a completely seperate manual activation code... or something.
Contact support, I guess.
Good luck with your internet, why is it down? Is it something specific to you or did your ISP mess up?
