Well the sheer nature of the two mediums leaves LOTS of room. Bone is stuck in the valley for a rather extended period of time (several months, I don't specifically remember but its a huge chunk of time).In the book the time lapse just gets played off. Given the brevity of a comic book, you sort of have to do that. With a game, it can be much longer and get much more detailed.
