It's not hard to click on the pipe, Rather Dashing. We're all just wondering why we can't get it to trigger the lift. It's just not responding.

Update: Literally just standing around and waiting in the soup kitchen can trigger the movie to happen. So if the pipe isn't working for you then just wait around for 30 seconds or so and it'll happen so that you can use the pipe the way we're expecting.
