I guess that the point is more like:

Since Apple manage the stuff bought in the app store(and they get a % of the sale), they won't mark it as bought, since they want their cut on it

Also, TTG offers the MAC/PC version of the games that they have ported to mac as a bundle (if you get the PC version you get the MAC version also).
