Amazing, that also totally fixed it for me, disabling internet by disconnecting access point.
All other fixes did nothing (such as setting compatability modes).
They need to include this troubleshooting step as a key solution in their Walking Dead FAQ!!!
Still crashes for me instantly when setting full screen mode, but if I don't do that I can play the whole way through
